amaia

Spain’s 2018 representative Amaia Romero has spoken out as she hands over the Eurovision torch to Miki, who will fly the flag for the country in Tel Aviv.

In an interview with El Mundo, Amaia kept things real and spilled her tea about his Eurovision 2019 entry: “I do not like his song very much, that’s just my opinion, but I wish him luck”.

The shade of it all! She added that the song is “not my thing and it does not get me hooked”.

Amaia Romero performed “Tu Cancion” in Lisbon alongside Alfred Garcia, finishing in 23rd place with a total of 61 points. It will be interesting to find out come May whether Miki’s “La Venda” will be able to rack up more points than last year’s duet.

Amaia also discussed her absence from Operacion Triunfo, Spain’s National Eurovision selection, explaining that she chose not to perform because of Spain’s result in Lisbon: “After how bad we were last year, I did not feel it was my place to pass the baton’.

She denied that there was any bad blood between her and Alfred.

During the interview Amaia also discussed her upcoming album, which was recorded in Chile and Argentina: “Now we are choosing the songs that will make the cut and those that will be left out”. She has a release date in mind, though she hasn’t revealed it, and is very excited about the new record.

She’s given a few hints about what to expect from her new songs. “They talk about what all the pop songs now speak about: love, lack of love…”

We’re excited to hear Amaia’s new sound, and if not even “La Venda” is up to scratch for her, we’re expecting big things from the new album!

What do you think? Do you think that Miki will fare better than Amaia and Alfred at Eurovision? Or do you yearn for the good old days of “Tu Cancion”? Let us know in the comments!

At least, it’s better than hers.

To be honest is one thing, to have no filter is different. No wonder Alfred wanted nothing to do with her anymore, no matter if their relationship started as real or fake. She is extremely immature.

Butthurt fans are at it again. It’s her opinion. Deal with it.

she is free to express her opinion, she didn’t say she doesn’t like Miki!

However it was wrong not to attend the Eurovision gala and talk about her experience. I think she wants to get over ESC flop already and do not be associated by it anymore

Disagree. It is her opinion.

Actually I understand where she is coming from. I watched the final from Iceland and it was kind of cringey and embarrassing to watch a singer who was dead last in a semi final come and sing the same song as part of the interval act. It was hardly inspiring for the other acts. Also, I do not think she was being bitchy about the song, she has an opinion like everyone else and she did wish him the best of luck.

Apparently Eurovision fans who are full of opinions of what songs are “winners” and what songs are rubbish are always besides themselves when singers like Amaia, or Salvador or ingrosso have negative opinions about songs. Guess once you step onto a Eurovision stage your opinion stops mattering, or worse, how dare you even have an opinion.!!!!

The difference is that those singers are public persons who choose to represent their country on a wide platform. The standards should be quite high. Also, is about when they say it and how they say it.

She said the song wasn’t for her. Seems like a pretty benign assessment. She didn’t say it was the worst song ever or he couldn’t sing. She said it wasn’t for her and the kind of music she likes. Same with Salvador and Toy. When they say it? When they are asked about it. They rarely get on social media or randomly issue statements. It’s usually press asking for their opinion

Benjamin had the same kind of opinion as Sobral and Amaia? I don’t think he is in the same level as them. Sobral was critical and Amaia just said she doesn’t like it but never have I seen Benjamin being like them.

I do think this is disrespectful, I don’t like when people pretend to love every song, but someone who’s done Eurovision before and knows all the effort that goes in could show a bit more etiquette in talking about other entries. Although to be fair she wishes him well. I wonder if maybe in Spanish her sentiment comes across less hostile. Thinking back to last week or so when wiwibloggs called her out for saying something to the effect of Eurovision’s just one event and not your entire life, they should leave her alone a bit. I wonder if they’ve… Read more »

It’s not even shady! She said it’s not my cup of tea but good luck! Thats not shady, that’s being nice. Shady is when you have an attitude and know you are better than whoever youre shading!
Saying it’s not my favourite but I wish them the best is polite and what ESC fans should do to.

I could have never imagined Amaia and I had the same opinion on that song lol.

Remember last year when the cypriot singer was FORCED to say Greece was her favourite by the greek tv company? Thats so sick. John Lundvik can like whatever songs he choose to here in Sweden 🙂

Fake news, however what wasn’t fake was the reaction of Benjamin. Shall we talk about that?

I love it when people are honest. I don’t like it when Eurovision representatives are always super fake and they looooove all the songs.

This is not Saudiarabia or Iran guys. She is allowed to have an opinion in Spain. Mikis song will disappear on the night. The revamp took away the fun i think. Switzerland will make this this to dust and take all Mikis votes. Switzerland is 1 million times better.

Let’s see. As far as we know RTVE is investing a lot of money and energy to develop an upbeat performance and a party on the stage this year. So it might surprise us all for once…

RTVE inverting money… I think that is fake. See what they do to Barei or Amaia and Alfred… for example.

I know! But unlike them, Miki is so far very happy about it. RTVE changed direction and artistic direction last year. So let’s see if there are improvements and compromise with the event.

It would be great but i still think Switzerland will take away the party votes from Miki 🙂

Whisker

I.agree.with.you. IMO she does starts off from a bitter place. It is likely that she internalized too strongly their humiliation last year and realizes that Miki will do much better compared to them. Their victory in the selection was shady, also IMO. There was a video of her and Alfredo during OT and she was telling him that she’d like to have a duet with him in Eurovision. Playing up the romantic card with teens, I would say. Then they become a “couple”. Please. There were videos of them in the media run before Eurovision, he was not looking at… Read more »
