Eurovision News 4 April 2019

Every day between now and the grand final in May, the team from wiwibloggs will be rounding up the latest titbits from the world of Eurovision 2019. We’ve trawled through Instagram, Twitter and elsewhere so that y’all don’t have to. This is the Daily Digest for Thursday 4 April.

Katerine Duska reveals her support team

According to the Greek website MIKROFWNO, Katerine Duska will be joined on the Eurovision stage by five others. They are Erasmia Markides, Eugenia Liakou and Eleni Pozantzidou on vocals and dancers Dimitra Vlachou and Fania Grigoriou. Both Erasmia and Eugenia supported Demy back at Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv.

Press Conference in Paris

French TV held its usual pre-Eurovision press conference yesterday. Our reporter Etienne was there to get the lowdown. Among the highlights, was the unveiling of Bilal’s new wig for the preparty circuit. It’s wavier and longer than the one from Destination Eurovision, but apparently the headpiece for Tel Aviv will surpass it in length. Call him Rapunzel!

Duncan goes viral

He’s slowly creeping up the charts in his native Netherlands, and yesterday Duncan Laurence cracked the Global Viral 50 chart. “Arcade” entered at #14. He is the second Eurovision 2019 act to make the chart. Norway’s KEiiNO peaked at #2 shortly after their Melodi Grand Prix win. Unlike the main chart, the viral countdown is not measured by streams alone. Spotify compiles the list based on information from various social networks, dividing the number of people who shared a song by the number who listened to it.

Tamta slows down

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC are making the most of Tamta while they have her on the island. Following Tuesday evening’s cocktail party, they drafted her in to perform for delegates attending the EBU’s News Contacts Meeting in Limassol. She used the opportunity to take “Replay” in a new direction, swapping the EDM beats for a piano and slowing things down completely.

Jumping from planes

He sings of running with lions. But for his postcard shoot in Tel Aviv, Lithuania’s Jurij Veklenko was jumping from planes. “Today was so awesome!! Spent the entire day on an airstrip making my #eurovision PostCard! Everyone was so nice and professional! It was a blast!!”, he writes.

Postcard shoots continue

The steady flow of Eurovision stars into Tel Aviv continues apace. Italy’s Mahmood, Australia’s Kate Miller-Heidke and Estonia’s Victor Crone are now all in situ. Homeboy Kobi Marimi was also working on his postcard, filming scenes at Jerusalem’s Western Wall.

Cover boy Conan

Portugal’s Conan Osíris is the latest 2019 cast member to grace newsstands. From Friday, Portuguese readers can pick up copies of CRISTINA which feature a black and white portrait of the “Telemóveis” singer on the cover. An interview will be contained within.

S!sters confirm music video

It’s now several weeks since Laurita Spinelli and Carlotta Truman, aka S!sters, won Germany’s Eurovision selection. And yet there’s still no sign of a music video for their entry “Sister”. Fear not, in her latest YouTube vlog, Carlotta confirms that an official video is in the works. But rather than divulge its contents, she proceeds to tell us about her house-moving travails.

25 years of Srbuk

Armenian songstress Srbuk celebrated her 25th birthday yesterday. And judging from her Instagram stories, it was a party for everybody! Elsewhere, the Armenian delegation published its latest Eurovision diary. In it, 2014 singer Aram MP3 wishes the “Walking Out” singer luck, but asks her not to beat the fourth place record he shares with Sirusho. Our William and Deban also cameo.

Miki on tour

Miki and his fellow Operación Triunfo 2018/2019 cast mates are heading out on tour. The 13-date jaunt begins on 4 May in Pamplona and concludes in Almería on 21 August. Fans needn’t worry about Miki being double-booked, none of the gigs clash with his trip to Tel Aviv.

Chameleon in Concert

Malta’s Michela also announced some concert dates, one on each of the country’s two main islands. On 27 April she’ll perform on Malta itself, before going to Gozo the next night. A selection of her fellow X Factor Malta contestants will join her.

Tulia meet the mayor

On Saturday, they’ll get to meet the mayor of Amsterdam. But before departing for Eurovision in Concert, the ladies of Tulia paid a visit to their own municipal leader. The mayor of their home city Szczecin had them round for some coffee, showering them with floral bouquets and good wishes.

Za nami mi?e popo?udniowe spotkanie z Prezydent Szczecina? Panie prezydencie, dzi?kujemy za zaproszenie! Do us?yszenia (zobaczenia) jak najpr?dzej!

Posted by Tulia on Wednesday, April 3, 2019

What do you think of “Replay” stripped-back? Which gig would you rather be at — Miki’s or Michela’s? Let us know in the comments.

After seeing and listening all the songs as a test (that’s a possibility on the eurvovision website/douzeorboos), AND finally listening and watching it all one by one, all over again, for me these are the results: 1) Nothing nasty to say about The Netherlands, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, and Belgium; it all depends on whether they can keep it all together with a perfect staging and a perfect voice. For me, I know at least Greece and The Netherlands are way up there, hearing them live. For me, it should all go between those two; they are the male-famele… Read more »

Three more things to mention: 1) Slovenia reminds me a little bit about Anouk’s “Birds”. It sounds dark and gloomy. So it could do well, and enter the top 10, possibly. I reckon it will go through to the final, anyhow. 2) What happened to the Nordic countries? Have they gone complacent? Iceland is a tossup for me, because if Lordi can win, so can this. But that’s all I can imagine why this song could win. The other entries are just trying to go on on previous entries, mostly from the late 90’s/early 00’s; bubblegum pop-like songs that are… Read more »

For all these people going around these posts complaining about how some artists get more featured than others, think than they’re made up mostly of social media and news. Some people is more active, some people isn’t. Wiwipeople are just browsing around checking for the best news. My insta is half places I go and half things I craft, if I was one of the participants, yes, I would be posting about my postcard and rehearsals, but also I would still finding time for my crafts. And at the end of the day, what would you think it’s more interesting?… Read more »

I think the best way to find her would be go to the #joannathelobster tag. Joanna is the original name of the pattern (the designer names every animal, I keep some, I change others). I also have a Francesco the Gorilla, a Conchita the Phoenix, a Saara the Monster and a Netta the Silkie Chicken amongst others

It’s very cute! I wish I had more patience (and less clumsy hands) to try doing something like that. Conchita the Phoenix sounds interesting, especially if it has a beard. 😀

It’s fiddly, I give you that one, Netta has some techniques which might scare a newbie. But it’s a great hobby, and a studies say that even good for decrease your mental stress.

He was very exposed in this acoustic version. I think he’s capable to sing it if he improves. I don’t think it’s impossible to save this.
At ESC he will have the actual recording track and he will not be that exposed.
If he can’t handle the song with the recording track then better get some backing singers to save it.
I just hope people will not shade him just like they did to Blanche 2 years ago.

A Eurovision singer sitting in a tank and promoting war is not exactly an appealing image. Armenia is being Armenia again, and being super nationalistic. I don’t understand what they are saying in the video, but we all know who the tank is aiming at.
Anyway, happy birthday Srbuk!

Don’t worry she’s not promoting war. It’s a TV show that takes celebs and teaches them extreme things like driving a tank or jumping from a plane and etc. And, if you’re curious, they didn’t mention Azerbaijan or Turkey once so I wouldn’t get worked up over it.

Dude, sometimes our imagination is our bitter enemy and not humans. Calm down, no one is going to wage a war. If the both country want to be developed in every sphere, and prosper, they must live in peace and harmony. So let’s live in peace, no one wants to live a short life or a life full with fear, uncertainty and enmity. The two nations should break the old stereotypes and start live in peace and harmony.
Peace to your nation?

That viral chart is pretty useless. The actual Spotify chart is pretty hard to get on in Holland though, if you’re not a Dutch rapper or Drake or some other cra.p, so that means that Arcade does have hit potential.

Well that’s the situation in all countries. Not just in Netherlands.
Streaming in our lives. Music has changed a lot recently and people is not hooked by generic pop chorus anymore.
Arcade is amazing and I agree it has hit potential. Maybe Dutch people would steaming more if it was in Dutch (kinda like Als Het Avond Is or Davina Michelle’s songs for example) or maybe just need some time to grow

In Sweden, if you win Melfest you’re guaranteed a lot of Spotify streams. That’s not how it works in Holland, people have to really like your song. And apparently they do.

Als Het Avond Is is a very weak song. Somehow it’s a #1 hit. A lot of songs in the spotify charts are bad. So if you want to be streamed a lot, you just have to make bad music.

You can not discuss taste. I do not like Greece at all, don’t like her voice either. Russia is too much effort. Again he goes over the top. I liked his song the only one, but the show was distrackting from the song. That’s why he lost and probably will lose again. Switzerland, Netherlands and It will be the top 3 I think. But we’ll see, all depending on the night.
