Wake up! Eliot is representing Belgium at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv. His song “Wake Up” is a call for action and we are taking notice. Our William and Deban caught up with Eliot in London, where he performed at the London Eurovision Party. You can check out our Eliot interview below.
Eliot interview — London Eurovision Party 2019
Eliot likes to focus on things that matter to him when it comes to performing. He tells us he cares about “people in general” and mentions issues such as the climate which are close to his heart. Family is also important to Eliot — his parents and grandparents are all following along, attending the Eurovision preview parties with him.
We asked Eliot if Belgian stars of yesteryear have reached out. He is friends with Blanche and takes her opinions seriously. Eliot feels that connecting with someone of a similar age who has been through this experience is crucial.

Eliot discussed the formation of the song. He liked the demo from the beginning, which was purely instrumental. The lyrics came later, which were written with his team. They have an interesting procedure which involves feeling the music and seeing what sounds correspond with it. It is an interesting insight into how the magic is made.
Eliot has some advice for young people as well. He tells our readers that many people who comment negatively have nothing better to do and “there’s always someone around who supports what you do”.
Belgium will perform in the first semi-final in Tel Aviv. They will follow Serbia’s Nevena Bozovic and precede Georgia’s Oto Nemsadze.

This interview upped this song heaps in my mind – because the lyrics aren’t super well connected to each other so the meaning is hard to find, I assumed it was a love song and it’s a shame the funky bass in the chorus went to waste on something so weak, but this has upped it to really hoping it goes to the final and depending on staging (the London performance gave me some hope for this) end up left hand side!
What a really insightful interview. I particularly love the comment that a lot of the people being negative online are people who have nothing better to do. I tend to comment only on those songs that connect with me or where I am trying to be supportive and for those that don’t connect with me, I tend to acknowledge that the reason I don’t like it says more about my tastes than about what are undoubtedly 41 talented artists in this contest.
