As we get ever closer to Eurovision 2019, the OGAE poll, where fans across Europe (and the rest of the world) get to vote for their favourite of this year’s acts, is also continuing. Countries are submitting their votes thick and fast, with the latest results coming from Greece and North Macedonia.

And now, after weeks of inching closer and closer, Switzerland’s Luca Hänni has dirty danced his way into first place, beating out Italy’s Mahmood.

When we last checked in, Norway’s KEiiNO, who had been in fourth place for some time, had begun to increase the gap between them and the countries behind them. But after receiving generous points from Greece and North Macedonia, Cyprus is catching up and now sits only one point behind Norway.

Full votes from OGAE Greece

Scoreboard courtesy of OGAE International

Switzerland – 12 points
The Netherlands – 10 points
Cyprus – 8 points
Italy – 7 points
Russia – 6 points
Iceland – 5 points
Azerbaijan – 4 points
Norway – 3 points
Sweden – 2 points
Spain – 1 point

OGAE Greece gave their top points to Switzerland, but gave Italy’s Mahmood only seven points. This difference of five points was enough to push Switzerland into first place.

Unsurprisingly, OGAE Greece gave Cyprus their second highest score thus far. But even the countries’ strong ties weren’t enough to keep Switzerland and The Netherlands from receiving Greece’s top points.

Further down the scoreboard, Russia’s Sergey Lazarev received six points from OGAE Greece, his highest score yet.

The Netherlands – 12 points
Italy – 10 points
Switzerland – 8 points
Cyprus – 7 points
Iceland – 6 points
Portugal – 5 points
Malta – 4 points
Azerbaijan – 3 points
Greece – 2 points
Slovenia – 1 point

OGAE Macedonia gave their douze points to The Netherlands and their silver and bronze medals to Italy and Switzerland, respectively.

Fifth place went to Iceland, who have been slowly creeping their way up the scoreboard. This is tied for their highest score yet.

Portugal’s Conan Osiris received 5 points from North Macedonia, his second set of points thus far, bumping him up from 17th to 14th place.

OGAE Poll 2019 scores so far

This latest batch of votes have shaken things up quite a bit. Italy has slipped out of fifth position and Switzerland now holds the top spot on the scoreboard. But it should be noted that while OGAE Italy and Netherlands have already presented their votes, OGAE Switzerland has not. We therefore know for sure that at least one set of nil points is in Switzerland’s future, as OGAE clubs cannot vote for their own country.

While Switzerland, Italy, and The Netherlands battle it out for first place, the gap between third and fourth place continues to widen, with 57 points separating The Netherlands and Norway. But the battle for fourth place is intensifying as Cyprus lies only one point behind Norway.

Further down the scoreboard, Iceland has climbed from 10th place to 8th place and Portugal has climbed from 17th to 14th.

1. Switzerland – 158 points
2. Italy – 156 points
3. The Netherlands – 141 points
4. Norway – 84 points
5. Cyprus – 83 points
6. Sweden – 75 points
7. Azerbaijan – 43 points
8 = Iceland – 40 points
8 = Russia – 40 points
10. Spain – 32 points
11. Greece – 28 points
12. Malta – 21 points
13 = Belgium – 12 points
13 = Denmark – 12 points
13 = France – 12 points
13 = Portugal – 12 points
17. Slovenia – 8 points
18. Poland – 7 points
19. San Marino – 6 points
20 = Armenia – 4 points
20 = Israel – 4 points
22 = Albania – 2 points
22 = Estonia – 2 points
22 = Hungary – 2 points
22 = North Macedonia – 2 points

The 16 countries yet to receive any points include Australia, Austria, Belarus, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and the United Kingdom. But with 28 clubs still yet to present their votes, there’s still plenty of time for any country to make their way up the scoreboard.

What do you think of the latest results? Will Switzerland be able to hold onto their lead? Sound off in the comments below!

I think this year is going to be interesting as there is a lot of different genre this year. Also very interesting a lot of big male vocals this year so that could through things a different direction coz no unusual sound from any woman this year and the ones that do are over shadow by male vocal as so many this year

Honestly this is (so far) one of the OGAE fan polls most in accordance with reality that I’ve seen. That is quite a solid top 10, even if Switzerland, Norway and Spain have probably been inflated beyond their possibilities. I can absolutely picture Norway pulling a Saara Alto this year. Of all the songs that have yet to receive any points, Serbia is the only one who deserves them, nil points sounds about right for the likes Australia and Lithuania.

He is still very much a strong contender and is ahead of Italy in the odds, we just need to see if he can get his act together before Tel Aviv.

People here are acting like OGAE voting determines anything, people usually vote for radio friendly songs based on studio versions, remember Kati Wolf won in 2011 and then ended up 22nd in the finale. So even if Switzerland wins this one, it doesn’t matter too much.

Has it ever been so close for 3 countries in all polls pre-contest? Usually there is only one big favourite running away before the rehearsals…

Well, it’s OGAE’s collective voting, so for some ‘countries’ to have pretty similar tastes are normal. The real voting might not be as close as this–the televote might work this way, but I can still see juries flipping these results to the extent of ‘all the way around’. Even if the Netherlands had won the EuroJury show, I still keep in my mind that results of the real ESC will always still be a surprise. These shows are a good prediction, though.

For the Eurojury, the best part is still the juries’ vote. Although it doesn’t give a clear indication, it’s still a hint to what juries will go for in May (of course it will still depends on what happens on the night also).

When was the last time a Eurovision winner came from outside the OGAE top 10? From what I’ve seen, since I started watching this contest in 2013, the ESC winner ALWAYS came from the OGAE top 10….

Therefore, any one of the final OGAE top 10 finishers is most likely to win it all, even though, at the same token, one or two (maybe even 3) may either fail to qualify for the final or finish below the top 20.

I think you’re right CookyMonzta. My impression is that the act winning will be the one, from within the OGAE top 10, who raises their game the most in the last four weeks before the final. I think it’s fairly safe to assume that those on 12 points or less are likely to be outside the top 10 of the night.

Just wondering, …does OGAE rest of the world’s votes count towards this, or did the voting I did for them not really mean anything?

Also…if they count, how much do they count? It counts the same as one country even though it’s technically many, right?

I’m new to this and a bit confused.

The fanclub polls are good at picking possible “fanwank” songs. 2018 – France, Finland and Australia were 2nd, 3rd and 4th (overall 13th, 20th and 25th) 2017 – France and Estonia were 4th and 5th (12th and failed to qualify) 2016 – Italy and Spain were 5th and 6th (both finished bottom 10) Remember last year the clubs didn’t rate Cyprus (and they were favourite in the end to win) or Austria (Austria topped the jury voting) whilst televoting hammered Australia last year overall. Personally I don’t take any clues from the fan polls I would generally wait for the… Read more »

I shan’t take polls, odds and ‘fan-juries ‘ seriously anymore; it’s all hyped and overrated. The only thing that matters, is the contest. And let’s not forget: it’s not just a contest, it’s also a celebration! It’s a way to celebrate our diversity under the umbrella of unity! <3

This event, of ALL events, might be the one that shows that everyone is welcome; no matter who you are or where you are from! 😀

I like Luca’s personality and this is in it’s core a fun song. I am glad that Switzerland is finally getting some spotlight after two years of being unjustifiably shunned aside. However, this is not a song which should end-up in top 10 compared to what else we have this year. And seriously… UK and Australia both without points thus far? Funny thing is that Australia ended-up pretty high with OGAE last year with a much, much weaker song.

Most of the top5 wannabe countries makes a clearly copy of 2018’s top10 materials. Switzerland, which have had two bad years in a row, has taken inspiration from Cyprus (and Cyprus too has copied itself); Sweden which maybe has understood that people want something new, and not only pop song, has taken inspiration from Austria. What about Netherlands…I know that Duncan is untouchable, ’cause everybody loves him, but listening to his song – which is very well produced anyway – I still don’t understand the hype. Personally what I don’t like is the way they composed the song and the… Read more »

I’m thinking there is a small chance Netherlands pulls a Benajmin Ingrosso and flops in the televote. It shares much of the same features: to polished, to common, to American sounding. had it represented Sweden people would no doubt say exactly those things..
I don’t think it will though. It is a good song that should do well with televoters but will it do well enough to win? But I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t do as well as hyped either..

Actually after 2014, The Netherlands were not exactly ‘loved’ by the televote and never scored insanely high, so that kind of makes sense but it in no way will Duncan’s score be 21. I’m predicting it could be 60-70-ish which is not exactly low but certainly much less than what people expect/want.

Honestly, do people still not understand that OGAE is just for fun? That WiWibloggs is just for fun? There is negative criticism and then there is just senseless outrage over something that’s not even real. Neither Switzerland or Italy is my favourite this year, but I still find it fun and interesting to see who will win this.

You all need to grow up, like seriously. 🙂

It’s a perfectly fine song, but in the contest full of original tracks (Portugal, Slovenia, Iceland, just to name a few) for the most basic 101 dance bop to win the whole thing would be pretty unsatysfying, to say the least.

You “special songs enthusiasts” got your winners in the last three years. This year a normal song should win. Otherwise the song contest evolves either in a freak show or an “indie song festival”

It’s slightly worrying from the UK point of view that 25 countries have received votes and they haven’t. I do think we always overestimate our songs but this isn’t too bad. It definitely doesn’t deserve to be a top 10 or anything close but it’s doing far worse than a lot of people thought.

The UK wouldn’t qualify it it were in the semi final. The UK rarely takes the contest seriously and never sends its best. Another example why they need to get rid of the Big 5.
