Our Eurovision 2019 Spotify playlist is now complete, as all songs are finally available for listening. And in our latest weekly update, the Netherlands enter the top three for the first time.

The streaming figures on Spotify give us an impression of what fans have on replay.

Unfortunately, Ukraine is no longer on the list following the national broadcaster’s withdrawal. You can listen via our playlist linked right here.

The biggest gainer of the week is Hungary’s Joci Papai. Up from number 29, he’s now sitting in the top 15. Lithuania also climbs and enters the top 30 of the weekly streaming list.

Besides, our prayers for Albania’s Jonida Maliqi have been heard as she climbs up seven spots. A good start to begin with!

The table above shows the current number of streams for each song as of Sunday 21 April. Notably, a few earlier versions were replaced with Eurovision edits and thus we’re combining the total count with the earlier streams counted so far.

Italy remains in the lead — and by some distance. The Netherlands have entered the top three for the first time this year, beating France’s Bilal Hassani. Moreover, Hungary’s Joci Papai reaches the top 20 just behind Russia’s Sergey Lazarev.

Further down the list, Azerbaijan and Malta receive considerable gains. Malta’s Michela rises another three spots with her song “Chameleon”, which is on the edge of reaching the top 30.

Eurovision 2019 Spotify tracking

In the weeks leading up to Eurovision in Tel Aviv, we’ll be tracking the entries on Spotify and giving you an overview of which songs have made the biggest gains over the past seven days. It’s obviously not a perfect science, as you can stream artists from your home country. But it’s a fun barometer to look at anyway.

What do you think about the current Spotify stats? Do they indicate a possible win for Italy? Let us know in our comments below!

Just so you know, with spotify being a swedish company, EVERYONE has it here, som maybe that plays in a bit. 😀

One thing that perturbs me about this and I’m hoping someone can set my mind at ease – does Spotify randomise the order of which songs appear where on a playlist? I hope so, if not, then surely isn’t it a self-fulfilling prophecy – ie, most people will only listen to the ones at the top, so the popular ones get more popular, etc, and the ones at the bottom seldom get listened to?

I think these charts are interesting in the sense that you can see which songs have longevity, which songs get played over and over again. Eventually the real hits come to the fore. Mahmood obviously, but Duncan is doing really well with a type of song that I normally wouldn’t see chart so well on Spotify in Holland. Luca Hänni is actually doing quite poorly with a song that should do better on Spotify.

Countries with a higher population will always have higher streaming numbers though, also Spotify is not equally popular everywhere, so yeah these charts are interesting, but not really meaningful.

I think Sweden is a bigger streaming monster . Its got more streams than the population of Sweden.
Estonia has about the same streams as it has population, few percentage here and there!

No, Nicky is notorious on several eurovision sites for his behaviour. His allegiances depend on the hour of the day and can take a 180 turn within a few seconds.

There is something I don’t understand. There is a lot of talking about Italy. ‘Soldi’ ranks very high on Youtube, I-tunes etcetera. But Italy is ‘only’ number 4 at the bookmakers. And Russia is number 2 at the bookies, while a lot of people are disappointed about ‘Scream’ and the song doesn’t score as high as ‘Soldi’ on Youtube etc. Why does Italy not score higher among bookmakers?
Is that only because of the high expectations about the performance of Russia?

That is a good question. I might have a theory. Italy has twice in recent history been presented as a frontrunner for ESC (Grande Amore in 2015, Occidentalis Karma in 2017) and it didn’t win. Russia, on the other hand, already has a track record of surpassing the odds (I mean, singing grannies got the second place over the likes of Never Forget and Nije ljubav stvar) and Sergey is a reliable performer people will vote for. Maybe the bookies are just being careful.

In the past years Italy always ranked the highest on both streaming and youtube , but eventually it never translated into a win. I think that there is also some concern regarding Italy’s live peformance. And when it comes to Russia; you can never tell. But they (usually!) get lots of points from the Ex-Soviet block and this year they sent Sergay, who is an established known artist with past sucsses in Eurovision (3rd place in 2016 and was ranked #1 with televoters that year), so everyone expects them to have an amazing staging in Tel-Aviv. At the end of… Read more »

IMHO staging is the point. My country is not that reliable about that, because of the past years. Hope Mahmood will change it, he said that Attilio Cusani is working for the staging, which is a good news.

You can’t vote for your own country, simple as that. 90% of Youtube or Spotify are from Italy.

Soldi has been 40th in Top 50 World spotify for some days, Top 50 viral in Israel, Spain and others. Gold Record in Switzerland.
Though, for some incredibly brilliant users here, if Italy goes good is because of Italians, the others not, because they are special in a magical way.

I don’t know if Soldi will win the ESC, but it has won all of the ranks. Sorry for the haters.

And how many sales do you think rank 128 in Apple Music in Uzbekistan means? Or 100th in Malta’s iTunes? We have to wait till the semis and the grand final to see what the real impact of all contestants is abroad. Unfortunately esctracker isn’t updated yet for this year.

40th in Top 50 World spotify, Top 50 viral in Israel, Spain and others. Gold Record in Switzerland means nothing abroad, obv. And after 2 months.
Btw I am not saying that Soldi is for the win in the ESC, but you’re constantly telling us that all of the support is from Italy, when facts are more liable than words: these ranks are facts.
The others hasn’t been ranked abroad, apparently, following your link. A HUGE outcome for one, who was literally unknown in Italy before Sanremo.

Kworb is updated almost in real time. If you follow that site for various artists you can see that most support from all eurovision artists till now is from their own country. And yes the others also ranked abroad. Duncan was first in the Belarus iTunes a few days ago and 1st in the Hungarian iTunes last week. Both lasted for a day. Also means nothing compared with the real big selling artists like Ariana Grande etc.

Because most of those streams and views are from Italians, we make massive use of Spotify and YouTube, it’s not something we do in relation to Eurovision (like “to hype the song”) or anything. They should just take us off the chart or stop posting this kind of articles altogether.

I don’t think it’s enough to justify a 30k streams difference with the second in that ranking. Not to mention the streaming parties organised to let it go double platinum or the hours long playlists to play in background and raise the count like this one https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7204V4IpMpHLZymLVNWC26?si=BzTAAL1rTRWBTZsMWNpD_Q
I’m not saying it’s a bad song and it doesn’t deserve to be amongst the favourites lol, I love it and I support Mahmood to the fullest, it’s just that us Italians can get pretty… passionate about certain stuff at times and you can’t deny it. I’m just being objective.

You can choose the country and whether it is the daily or weekly chart.
John Lundvik had in the weekly chart of 18/4 856,035 streams in Sweden.
Duncan had 1,067,454 streams in the Netherlands in that same period.
Mahmood had 1,531,200 streams in Italy in that period.

So it is easy to deduct how many streams are from other countries, considering that the totals are in the table in the article above.

Unfortunately, there is also a lot of hate towards The Netherlands. That causes irritation among the Dutch. In this way the circle stays round and everyone remains resentful towards each other.
I’m surprised about this envy. It is the first time that I’m interested in ESC and that I keep an eye on comments. But I don’t always like this ‘ESC-world’. Sometimes I’m ashamed of my own country.
ESC should just be fun and should be taken less seriously by some people.

I’m a huge fan of Mahmood and Soldi but I don’t think he will be the winner… People are expecting something different from Italy and Soldi is not that kind of music you love instantaneously (even if after 3 or 4 times you listen to it becomes a drug). The stage is another critical point ahahah
