She’ll sing for Romania in the second semifinal of Eurovision 2019 in less than four weeks.

But before she makes a final stop in Tel Aviv, Ester Peony stopped by the Dutch and Spanish capitals to join her Eurovision 2019 colleagues on a promo tour. Sadly neither of these events took place on a Sunday.

Last Friday she caught up with wiwibloggs ahead of her performance at Madrid’s PrePartyES. Wearing a striking all-black look, she stuck to the dark mood she brings in “On a Sunday”. However, her interview suggests she was a little ray of sunshine in cloudy Madrid that day.

In her second interview with our wiwiblogger Deban, she revealed a heart-warming story behind her stage name: “My mother’s last name means “flower” in Romanian language, and peonies are flowers. I wanted to make a connection. It was pretty emotional from me – I wanted to be with her all the time.”

She will bring a total of five people on stage with her: two dancers, a guitarist and her two girls (presumably backing vocalists).

“I’m so excited to be there! I love singing, I love music, I love everything that’s happening to me and I’m so grateful for this. The sound on the stage will be very very cool”

They say that within our dreams and aspirations we find opportunities, but who did Ester Peony take notes from? Aside from the regular top guns of the music industry such as Whitney Houston and Sam Smith, Ester Peony’s love for music and Eurovision blossomed after Loreen’s Eurovision 2012 winning performance in Baku.

“I’m a very optimistic person, and yes, at that time I was thinking that maybe one time I will be on that stage as well – and look where I am. Let it rain!”

The star also shared her opinion about some of this year’s acts.

” I like very much Duncan Lawrence, Katerine Duska and Hatari from Iceland. Music is music and I like all of them.”

What do you think? Does Ester Peony brings a smile to your face? Can Ester trick the bookies and qualify for the final? Let us know your thought in comments section below!

She will have two dancers for what? She doesn’t need any dancers. She needs to be the broken diva, acting less, and feeling the pain more. Keep the chair, have a fabulous staging and sing, girl. You don’t need any dancers. Keep the intimacy, don’t expose it too much

You are making very good points there. “Intimacy” is a great concept. Ester did so well in the semi and in the final of the national selection. I wish she kept the drummers instead of including dancers. I keep wondering, they are going to “dance” HOW exactly?

I think her best performance was in the Romanian SF. Focused without frills. A dark image of a woman mourning a lost love. I think that in both the SF and final of Selectia Nationala, TVR missed the best and most impact moment of the performance: right through the end of the song when she starts expressing through that falsetto or whatever the term for that, instead of words. And I am really concerned about the addition of the dancers. Of course I have no idea what they have in mind – those few images from a TV programme are… Read more »
