The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — continues to rate and review the 41 competing entries of Eurovision 2019. Next we say hello to Switzerland, where Luca Hänni has “She Got Me”. But do we have him? Read on to find out!

Luca Hänni – “She Got Me”

“She Got Me” reviews

Oliver: She got me? He got me is much more appropriate in this case; Luca has pulled one of the best produced songs out of his hat and won us all over.  Oozing charisma, Luca is able to hold your attention for the entirety of the song and stand at the centre of all of it without seeming overwhelmed.  There is an undeniable international quality about this song, allowing it to appeal to the masses all across Europe — a factor which should definitely help it with both the televoters and the jury.  Luca is a seasoned performer with a plethora of talents but in all honesty this song is a winner as a standalone studio cut for me.

Score: 10/10

Lukas: Each year I always like Switzerland’s songs but their results are quite disappointing. However this year things are going to change because finally Switzerland is bringing the heat with this one. “She Got Me” is as hot as Luca’s looks and both the song and the singer just match so well. The song is super catchy and after only one listen you can remember it instantly. It makes you want to dance and just makes you feel good, which is what I want from the Eurovision entries.

Score: 8.5/10

Bernardo: “She Got Me” is, hands down, the bop of the year. While several attempted to be the lucky ones, only one can win and if last year a woman took the crown (hey, Eleni), 2019 is Luca’s year. A brilliantly produced track combined with Luca’s sassy moves and sex appeal. One must be honest: sex sells and we buy it. But that’s irrelevant when you have a competent performer that knows how to sing and dance while making you joyful enough to get up and dance. It’s generic but you don’t care. Let’s do this!

Score: 8.5/10

Chris: Oh, Switzerland. At least when they failed over the last half a decade, they were memorable. Unfortunately, “She Got Me” – whilst it’s a very, very good track – feels like something you’ll forget about within a couple of months. A Eurovision winner needs its own identity, and it doesn’t feel like the track really has one (bar, perhaps, “slightly male Fuego”). Whether Luca will bring more of that on stage remains to be seen.

Score: 7/10

Tobias: When you mix “Fuego” with “Despacito” you get “She Got Me”. I can see this being played all summer long across Europe. We have found the new summer hit! I do love this song and it has a big chance of ending up in the top three. But it will all come down to the live performance. That will determine whether he’ll be a serious contender for victory in Tel Aviv or if it will flop on the stage and remain only a radio hit. The live performance and the staging will have to tell us. But one thing for sure is, Switzerland is fighting for the victory!

Score: 9/10

Renske: Luca Hänni is perhaps the man the small country needs to qualify once again, but the song is not scoring many originality points. It looks like a case of producers to create a song that combines all those elements that did well in previous Eurovision. “She Got Me” combines summer sounds, a handsome male singer, dance routines and EDM drops. Perhaps tactical and definitely fun, but not original.

Score: 7.5/10

In the Wiwi Jury we have 29 jurors but only have room for six reviews. The remaining scores are below:

Angus: 9.5/10

Anthony: 8.5/10

Antony: 10/10

Antranig: 10/10

Barnabas: 1/10

Calvin: 8.5/10

Deban: 5.5/10

Essi: 6.5/10

Florian: 9/10

Izhar: 10/10

Jack: 1/10

Jonathan: 9.5/10

Josh: 7.5/10

Julian: 8.5/10

Kristin: 7.5/10

Lucy: 4/10

Luis: 7/10

Mikhail: 7.5/10

Pablo: 10/10

Robyn: 9/10

Ron: 9/10

Sebastian: 9.5/10

William: 10/10

We have removed the highest and lowest scores prior to calculating the average. This is to remove outliers and potential bias. We have removed a low of 1 and a high of 10.

Wiwi Jury verdict: 8.11/10

I’m so happy that i’m not the only one who doesn’t like this. This is so Despacito 2.0. Nothing new at all. Ik would be extremely disappointed if this should win. But it will do well..

I agree with Deban, this song brings nothing new to Eurovision, I don’t understand all this hype about it. Just a good song to dance, and his vocals is not that great. But good luck anyway!

Curiously this song reminds me of a real situation that happened to me once, a very long time ago. But I would have never thought to turn it into a song. Anyhow, congratulations to the team that worked on this entry. Luca comes across to me as a slightly dirtier Olly Murs, which apart from being incredibly sexy is also reflective of this era. The song is actually not one of my favourites; I prefer Malta’s “Chameleon” and Cyprus’ “Replay” to this one. But Luca will sell it well.

Georgia is original, not plastic pop. San Marino is super positive. Switzerland is just “look at me, how cool I am”. Calm yourself, you are not as sexy as you think. Nobody is.

Although I agree that giving it a 1 is disrespectful, it is also disrespectful that you treat it as an absolute fact that Georgia/San Marino are worse. I prefer both of them to Switzerland, to be fair.

This song falls flat after about 90 seconds… it starts out well but then it needs something, maybe a little vocal gymnastics, to keep the attention. Unfortunately Luca isn’t a very good singer so the song just keeps chugging along in that same limited vocal range. It’s catchy, but a little boring.

I don’t usually say a song is a bop, but this is really a bop. I mean, you are losing your sh*t with “Replay” and lost it with “Fuego” and this song is far better and more international. Is it a materpiece? No. I wouldn’t consider “Despacito” a masterpiece either, but there it is. So, “She Got Me” is a party song, uplifting and very enjoyable. It is excellent for what it was created: entertain. Does it follow the electro-latino trend? Yes. Does it bring something new? No at all. But let’s be honest, it is the kind of song… Read more »

Netta won with just a bad song and Fuego came second. This is like them. I don’t understand why some people are surprised with the hype. It’s a catchy party song and the guy’s got moves and he is cute and all. He’s got the eurovision package to win.

Kkar

Netta’s song was at least something different. Was it a winning song? No. Was Fuego good enough to come 2nd? No. And this shouldn’t come second either. It’s a top 10 entry, not a winner

It was my 2nd place, but I have to admit that it looses impact after listening to often. For the absolute dance banger, there is something missing. The “fight SUI-MLT-CYP” goes clearly to Malta. On the other hand, Greece was my 16th in my first top and now I listen to it everyday and want Katerine to win (alongside with my #1 Australia ofc). Things change fast, don’t they? 😀

I still cannot decide if I like “She got me”. It’s the first easy “Fuego” follower of the season that to my ears is stronger than Tamta’s effort, because the oriental hook works better, but weaker than Michela’s entry, because it’s not nearly as original. And I have major issues with the performer. He obviously isn’t the strongest vocalist, he hits his notes but his vocal abilities are nothing to write home about. Then there’s the way he tries to sound – I don’t know, sexy (talk)? Or naughty (stop)? – it just doesn’t work for me. The lyrical content… Read more »

Dehumanizing? That’s a bit of a large stretch. Read about sex trafficking, that’s dehumanizing. Sexist? How is it sexist to accept that women can enjoy their sexuality, which is not even the same as sexual intercouse?

Alexander

“When she go low, she go solo” – Good, fine, let women enjoy their sexuality

It’s a bop, hands down, no denying it is certainly a bop. And of course this is in my opinion the best Swiss entry since Sebalter and of course will be the first entry from Switzerland to achieve a result as good as, if not better than Sebalter. However, I do worry about the live performance, can Luca sing and dance as good as the studio version? Or is this entry all fur coat and no knickers? At the minute, Switzerland is my number 5. However it may change depending on rehearsals and performance in the semi. It will qualify… Read more »

This is a tough one, because I actually enjoy hearing this song and dancing and singing along. But… that doesn’t mean I believe it deserves much praise. I like it more than “Fuego” last year, but that song wasn’t even in my top 10 and I was actually quite shocked (and even a bit embarrased) when “Fuego” came second. I simply like it more because I prefer it’s melody and instrumentation, which I find more infectious; not because the lyrics are better, because when it comes to that, both songs are equally bad. In any case, I have to give… Read more »

There is so much salt in these comments. This is one of my favorites this year and I am so happy that Switzerland is finally sending a song with real chances to reach Top 10, even Top 5 with miss Baptiste alongside him. Both songs are clearly influenced by Fuego in a different way. Replay has the same structure, while She Got Me uses the same genre and instruments. Think of it like Fuego is the golden pyramid, Replay is the silver pyramid and She Got Me is the golden cube.

It’s not as fresh as what it needs to be. I was walking by a busker on the street who I thought was playing “She Got Me”. When he got to the chorus, I realized he was singing “Despacito”. But I will say Luka’s/Laura’s chorus is catchy as hell especially with the mizrahi sounds. Good luck from Texas.

SWITZERLAND – It’s one of the favorites to win and in some way, I am glad, because Switzerland has been underrated so many times before. I wish them and their lovely representative all the best. However, this is not one of the songs I think should win or have a top 10 finish based on the song alone. It’s a nice party song and it leaves a lot of opportunities for a cool staging. Luca is charismatic and energetic and I think he can pull it off. Melodically, this is following the trend of Fuego and Despacito in this Latino-based… Read more »

Exactly my thoughts, Colin. Eleni and DoReDos sold their songs perfectly (both had awesome staging, which also helped a lot). Now the ball is in Luca and Tamta’s court. And I’m also still in love with “Lost and Found”. Too bad they never got the staging right.

I just can’t see “humanitarian” and “Eurovision” in the same sentence. It’s an entertainment music show that is unique in how it brings 40 plus nations together on one day of the year. It’s music, dance, fun, art, guilty pleasure, somewhat diverse, a lot less kitch, a lot more serious, a lot higher standard every year that goes by, same understandably nationalistic sentiment, a bit of neighbourly banter. But not humanitarian, please.

The song nails what it tries to be: a sexy banger that will be deeply enjoyed by bop chasers from all Europe. So, if well performed and staged, it’ll probably do very well in Eurovision. But it’s too artificial for my taste. It keeps following the trend of Despacito’s copycats from the last few years. Also, if you squeeze the lyrics, the only thing you will get is “she’s sexy and got me dirty dancing”. “Fuego” seems Shakespearean in comparison. Eleni seduced me into liking her song. Let’s see what Luca can do. 5/10

Woo… and I thought I was giving this a cold shower with my rating… Honestly, I kind of enjoy it. Sometimes I hum ”dirty dancing” parts. Luca really shines some positivity around him. Thank you, Colin. 🙂 The rating may seem too harsh, but I hope people don’t get it wrong, it’s an enjoyable entry. It’s good to have things like this on the show and I’ll be happy to see Switzerland back in the final. Plus I’ve danced and sang along to things that are waaaaay worst than this. But it’s a contest and I can see many songs that are better written, more personal and meaningful, take more risks, have more elaborate melodies and are better produced (though the production on this track is pretty good). I’ve supported the Swiss entries since 2013 whether they’ve qualified or not, but I have to say that Luca’s song this year is a big disappointment for me. An uptempo song. Good dance moves. Handsomes singer. Great drop. Memorable chorus to sing along during the performance. Yes, maybe they are right when they say it’s a tactical choice. But don’t they have all elements united for a top result? I mean, it’s Switzerland we are talking about. When it comes to countries like Russia, Sweden, Italy not reaching the top 10 in the final can be considered failure. Given that Luca Hänni represents Switzerland, litterally anyhing better than the last place in the final is to be considered success. And this is what SRF is going for. Maybe… Read more »
