This time two weeks, it will be the day after the night before. Of course, the night in question is that of semi-final one. Then we’ll be processing the aftermath, but, for now, all we can do is look into our crystal balls or examine the tea leaves.

On 11 March, we asked y’all to vote for your favourites in semi-final one of Eurovision 2019 before rehearsals. After counting a total of 39,971 votes for 17 acts, the results are in.

He’s not rating high within the fan bubble or with the oddsmakers, yet Georgia’s Oto Nemsadze has emerged on top. The “Keep On Going” rock singer secured 5,409 votes or 13.53% of all votes cast.

His patriotic song has struck a nerve with Georgians and resulted in him being possibly the first ever person to win the same version of Idol twice.

Oto Nemsadze “Keep On Going” (Georgia 2019) Interview

Making it a Georgian one-two is Tamta. The Greek-based popstar is representing Cyprus and amassed a massive 4,753 votes. That’s 11.89% of all votes cast. “Replay” is already dividing fans, some love it while others are tying themselves in knots with “Fuego” comparisons.

Of course, the track comes from the same gene pool as Eleni Foureira’s 2018 hit, with songwriter-producer Alex P on board once again. Staging supremo Sacha Jean-Baptiste is also back as creative director.

Tamta “Replay” (Cyprus 2019) Interview

Snatching the bronze medal is Greece’s Katerine Duska. The Candian born songstress scooped up 4,371 votes or 10.94% of all votes cast. “Better Love” is fast becoming a fan favourite with many predicting it to secure Greece’s best result in over half a decade.

Katerine Duska “Better Love” (Greece 2019) Interview

Rounding out the top five is Portugal’s Conan Osíris and Iceland’s Hatari. The remaining five qualifiers — according to our readers — are Estonia’s Victor Crone, Belgium’s Eliot, Slovenia’s Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl, Australia’s Kate Miller-Heidke and Hungary’s Joci Pápai.

Check out the full pre-rehearsal results below.

Qualifiers based on my favourites are Belgium, Iceland, Poland, Estonia, Cyprus, Australia, Slovenia, Portugal, Hungary, Belarus. The others miss out not because they are bad songs, just because I don’t connect with them as much. Greece – good singer but it reminds me of too many other female pop singers so not unique enough and not as dance-y as Belarus so just misses out due to that Czech Rep – reminds me of a poor imitation of a Britpop band Serbia – good singer but not enough of a hook and I don’t connect with the message Finland – too… Read more »

First semi is a more difficult one, despite The Netherlands being in the second. According to my ratings, nine qualifiers were very easy to find: ICELAND, AUSTRALIA, ESTONIA, GREECE, PORTUGAL, CZECH REPUBLIC, POLAND, SLOVENIA and SERBIA. The tenth qualifier, ”the borderline one” was very difficult for me, because Cyprus, Belgium and San Marino could all be it. Belgium has the best lyrics, but least engaging performance, Cyprus and San Marino both have energetic songs, but not as amazing lyrically. Cyprus’ is more polished, while San Marino’s is more cute. Finally, I put my borderline to be CYPRUS, because I truly… Read more »

Georgia has a powerful song with a message. Netherlands are singing about random stuff because they don’t experience this kind of problems. Congratulations Georgia!

Skiwalko
Guest

Yep, Duncan’s personal story lyrics depicting his failed romance are just some “random stuff”. He should have written a song about war and suffering instead!

Charles
Guest
Charles

So you missjuge a song by NOT knowing what the lyrics are actually about … and music should only express patriotic and sociopolitical feelings … I remember how mad and bitter everybody was about Jamala’s 1944 … but you are okey with the Georgian song showing a man singing as if he’s going to kick you in the derrière while hating on another for being honest and vulnerable … oh OMG the ocean of masculine insecurities and disturbances laying underneath your own rug.

Skiwalko
Guest

I have absolutely no idea what did you try to say. I thought it was clear that it’s IRONY. Still, you made me laugh with that last sentence, so I’ll give you that. Dude, just chill out a little, don’t get offended for no reason.

Charles
Guest
Charles

Your definition of powerful messaging in a song needs to go beyond 4th grade I would recommend … hating on the Netherlands for its huge acclaim is not gonna make your life any better. But if trolling floats your boat …

WannaEatMySpaghetti
Guest
WannaEatMySpaghetti

Both messages are strong. Duncan’s one is just objectively better, get over it 😉 And everyone (or almost) can feel and live love. Not everyone know what is war. Easier to understand Duncan’s song.

The “reply system” of these posts are confusing. People should write the name of the ones they are talking to. Skiwalko, I actually have the feeling that Charles was replying to Keith, as it is very easy to understand you were being ironic.
I could be wrong, though…

Well, on my computer it’s displayed as a reply to my comment. I was kinda surprised as well. If I was using my mobile divice, I would think the same thing as you.

So, people predict that qualifiers will be Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, Iceland, Estonia, Belgium, Slovenia, Australia, Hungary and San Marino!
Because the top result is as stretched as Miles Teller in Fant4stic and we all know it!

Well deserved, I voted for it too. A good rock-influenced song with great universal meaning of the lyrics and a strong vocalist whose scene presence gives me Sobral vibes.
As about the rest of the qualifiers, I must say Czech Republic will qualify 99%, and also very likely Poland, instead of some other 2 countries.

If we take out Georgia (what would make San Marino a qualifier) the rest makes sense… The only difference with my prediction (which not necessarily reflects my personal taste) is that I left Portugal out and replaced it with the Czech Republic.

Funnily enough I agree with 9 of the top 10 though not in this order but who cares. Guess which one I don’t agree with? Good, now we got that out of the way I must say San Marino would be nice because it’s funny and a bit kitsch and all. Poland grates a bit but listening to it just once in a while it’s quite good. I think Greece will win this SF. I would like it to be Iceland or Portugal. I’ll be voting for those and Australia just because I fear it won’t get through on jury… Read more »

Why does Wiwibloggs even bother with these polls?

For the same reason the EBU needed televoting so badly towards the end of the 90s … or Eurovision would fall into oblivion.

Why the confusion. The song is horrible and thank God will not qualify. There is no jury in the world that will put it in thei top 10 and it’s not sufficiently funny to have televote. Only the fan community can be behind such an aberration.

Is this poll upside-down. I’m sure that Georgia is near the bottom of most recent polls. This cannot be taken seriously because this entry will crash out of the semi final.

Hahahaha Wiwibloggs becames FoxNews… it looks very proffessional, polls are being done, but there is a lack of seriousness when it comes to make a conclusion that makes sense…

Then, in the end there will be a post like “Many surprises after SF1!” hahahah “Favourite Georgia failed to qualify!” “What happened?!”

This is how it has been. Wiwibloggs articles are about hyping up all the contenders and staying positive about all of them. Wiwibloggs videos are about honest reactions and opinions, and “expert” analysis. And I’m fine with this system.
