Duncan Laurence the netherlands Eurovision 2019

The second semi-final of Eurovision 2019 is just two weeks away. In 14 days, give or take a couple of hours, we will know the complete line-up for the grand final. But for now, all we can do is look into our crystal balls or examine tea leaves.

On 12 March, we asked y’all to vote for your favourites in semi-final two of Eurovision 2019 before rehearsals. After counting a total of 38,077 votes for 18 acts, the results are in.

He’s a firm favourite with oddsmakers and our very own Wiwi Jury. And, sure enough, our readers are on team “Arcade” too. The Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence comfortably topped the poll with an extremely impressive 6,745 votes. That’s 17.71% of all votes cast.

Ilse DeLange’s protegee has been one of the most talked about acts since his entry debuted in March. Appearances at Amsterdam’s Eurovision in Concert and the London Eurovision Party have strengthened his favourite status.

Duncan Laurence “Arcade” (The Netherlands 2019) Interview

In second place, we have yet another hotly tipped contender for the famous glass trophy — Russia’s Sergey Lazarev. The “Scream” singer brought home a tally of 6,115 votes or 16.06% of all votes cast.

He won the televote in 2016, but ultimately finished third behind Ukraine’s Jamala and Australia’s Dami Im. Could 2019 be his year?

Sergey Lazarev “Scream” (Russia 2019) Interview

Coming a very distant third, we have Armenia’s Srbuk. The “Walking Out” songstress attracted 3,501 votes or 9.19% of all votes cast.

After a rare non-qualification for Armenia in Lisbon, could the former X Factor and The Voice performer be the one to get the country back on track? Our readers certainly seem to think so.

Srbuk “Walking Out” (Armenia 2019) Interview

Rounding out the top five is Switzerland’s Luca Hänni and Albania’s Jonida Maliqi. The remaining five qualifiers — according to our readers — are Malta’s Michela, Norway’s KEiiNO, Sweden’s John Lundvik, Azerbaijan’s Chingiz and Romania’s Ester Peony.

Check out the full pre-rehearsal results below.

Now that San Marino is qualified for the final the boring Duncan song is screwed by the turkish diaspora of their closest neighbors : Belgium, Germany, Denmark, France lmao. They will give the 12 pts to serhat on televote. Such a disgrace to finish below San Marino AHAHHA.
Only Sergey can save us now from the disgrace of France winning.

Let it be a bop, a dance song to win this year. Something that brings you joy and not a depressing song. Life is hard enough so no need to push the depressing songs. You can still go to a funeral or your local cemetery if you want to cry.

I don’t see Denmark not making the final. I think it’s an easy qualifier bringing the same type of energy as Portugal 2009, Malta 2013 and Switzerland 2011. There’s a niche that they satisfy. I think Ireland have the potential to bring a surprise again – but it’ll depend on presentation and Sarah’s charisma which is essential. Don’t discount Lithuania either – when they sing well they do well, and have Ireland and the UK to carry them across the qualifying threshold. Would love to see Azerbaijan, Romania and Armenia fail twice in a row as I don’t think any… Read more »

The hate against Duncan just because he’s the fave to win is sickening, if you guys are so brave why don’t put yourselves in Duncan’s or Mahmood’s or Luca’s shoes for a day, why don’t you try to the feeling of being the favourites to win. That’s what I hate about Wiwibloggs fans, you guys are so delusional that you think that because Duncan performed Arcade 2 years ago that it should be disqualified or that Duncan is booked and busy and you guys are probably jobless that you can rain on his parade. Get a grip, put yourselves together… Read more »

The originality of Iceland lies on the outfits and the staging. But if you listen carefully to the song you have heard that techno beat, angel-like melody and growling before. For the me the most original entries are Portugal and Poland. They genuinely mix things that are for completely different universes. And Netherlands, of course.

I know that Italy will win soon because they always sent good songs, just give it some time.
And if it’s not this year then probably next year. For me it is the Netherlands this year , and if it will be Italy, Switzerland, Russia or maybe a black horse the 18th then it is what it is and we should accept that.
It is all about respect and if you can’t have respect for other countries and their song then your country is not worth the trophy imo.

Qualifiers based on my personal favourites:
Norway, Sweden, Malta, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, Lithuania.
Just missing out are:
Moldova – good singer, just a little dated
Armenia – very good last minute, just a bit boring up to that point
Albania – good singer, I think you need to feel the message to get this song and I don’t.
Denmark – too sweet
Croatia – not an exciting enough song
North Macedonia – lacks subtlety
Austria – doesn’t leave any impact on me
Romania – I find parts of the song irritating which unfortunately puts me off it.

Croatia cannot qualify because it is a below average and outdated song. It is in the same category as Iceland last year and where did that finish? Last. Could qualify but unlikely – Ireland, Lithuania

My opinion regarding the above result: i) I am expecting a top 3 position for the Netherlands, with a high chance of winning this semi final. ii) I don’t believe that Russia shall finish that high. No I just don’t want you to blame him for that, I’m getting sick of people keeps trolling here and being childish over and over again. We all not sure if he will win or not ( but I hope he does) and everything can happen on the 18th but at least have a little respect for him and his country like you have for your own country.

Hahaha, well sent your complain to the EBU then and if you want to make a statement then don’t watch ESC this year. But we all know that this is not the issue for you , it’s just an excuse for you for trolling around here. Jamala says hi to you btw. ( you are really brainless as I said before hahaha)

The Dutch song was not commercially released before. Therefore it does not break any rules.

But don’t worry. When a song is such a big frontrunner and so popular, most of the time that’s a bad thing. On the big night juries and voters will think they don’t have to vote anymore for such a song. That’s a big risk for The Netherlands this year. Although I do hope they win. It’s my nr 1 song!

of course you are entitled such an opion!! Would you also brag about this every time if the fav country would have been, lets say Sweden? ( there are few others, but I mention this one, as all the editions the fans are always assuming Sweden will winn again!)

Sweden… let the giant sleep. I like Christer Bjorkman, but overrated Sweden altogether…just let it sleep and snore.
And btw, I was much more against Sobral, don’t be snowflakes.

Ok, your reaction about Sweden makes sense. But when a sleeping giant is going back to sleep it’s never sure when they wake again!? Other ESC giants from the past were also France, Luxembourg, UK or Ireland (7 times I think?), they used to win many times in the past. before all the current online attention. They never regained that status in later years. That also could happen with Sweden imo!! And the 1rst winn of Portugal by Sobral was well deserved, as it was a great song!! The NLD’s are upping their ESC game this year!! and we might… Read more »

Duncan is winning every poll in the ESC circus as he is a TOP fav this year!! That happens every year in the ESC editions!! if you dont like that, just stop listening the song and paying negative attention on all those articles. Go boosting online your own personal fav act, that gives much more positive energy!!

I don’t really feel the song. It’s kind of a style over substance for me. However, he is closing the show, is quite handsome and Azerbaijan always know how to do the staging, so I think he will actually qualify.
PS. How many more downvotes would I get if people found out that Switzerland would actually be my borderline. 🙂

Those are my top 10 based on my personal ratings (full list posted in “best internally chosen song” below, as well as my Cyprus review on that page).

As for predictions, I’d say The Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia and Sweden are locked. Likely qualifying are Norway, Azerbaijan and Malta. I have a strong hunch Albania will make it. That leaves two spots open and that’s probably between Armenia, Romania and North Macedonia. Croatia could be a shocking qualifier via televote if the performance is grandiose. Austria or Latvia could be shocking jury qualifier.

Kiki

I think N Macedonia, Albania, Romania, Denmark and why not Austria will fight for the last 2 spots in the final. The others are obvious qualifiers for me.

Do you know how big the NLD’s is?? Its bigger than San Marino, Belgium or Luxembourg. Much smaller than Spain, Germany, Uk or italy!! A bit the same seize as Denmark. So in fact we are ALL neighbours here. What we enjoy as we used to be one of the most forthcomming liberal countries in the world in tolerance and liberation of minorities!! i know the tides have been changed, but we keep up!! The dutch Lion will roar again, with Loving you is a Losing Game!! The Nld’s ruled the waves before britain took over!!

I really need north macedonia in the final this year. I think norway and armenia are the most likely shock non qualifiers. They will be fighting over those last spots along with Romania, macedonia, and maybe austria? That one will depend on the juries.

Whether you like it or not, I think that Denmark is also a contender, having that “Loin d’ici” kinda vibe. Austria’s probably gonna do well with the juries, but not so much with the televote, so i think there’s 50/50 chance Paenda qualifies. I wouldn’t rule out Ireland, I think that could be a jury bait, if she improves her performances, why not? I would really like Latvia to be a surprise qualifier, but I’m less and less confident about that happening. N. Macedonia, I’m not so sure about, but if they nail the staging, i can see that coming… Read more »

To be honest leonora is giving me a lot of anti social media vibes xD but it all depends on how well she connects with the public on the night. Ireland has a great song but i think it isn’t strong enough to reel in enough votes on the night itself. That second place also doesn’t do them any favours.

Such a strong semi- but I’m glad the Croatians didn’t take this poll over, this is a fairly believable result. I personally prefer Denmark over Romania but I have 13 qualifiers in this semi:
– Norway
– The Netherlands
– Russia
– Sweden
– Malta
– Armenia
– Azerbaijan
– Switzerland
and constantly switching are :
– Albania
– Denmark
———————— (barely missing out for me)
– Romania
– North Macedonia
– Ireland
