They are France, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom and Germany.

And the Eurovision Big Five are now one step closer to taking to the stage for the Grand Final.

They drew halves of the grand final during their press conferences on Sunday, following their respective second rehearsals.

Big Five: Draw Results

Bilal from France was the first to draw and he will perform in the second-half.

He was followed by Miki from Spain. The OT-star also drew second half, which many Spanish fans had been hoping for.

Italy also drew for the second half. That adds further momentum to Mahmood after a well received second rehearsal.

The United Kingdom followed that trend. Michael Rice drew the second half, a year after SuRie performed in the first half in Libson.

The only big five nation to buck the trend was Germany. The S!sters drew the first half during their first press conference.

Israel’s position in the grand final was decided in March after a draw at the Heads of Delegations meeting. The host nation will perform as number 14 in the Grand Final. This places them right at the start of the second half of the draw.

What impact does the draw have?

Generally, it is regarded as favourable to perform in the second half of the final. Recent winners such as Loreen (17th), Emmelie de Forest (18th) and Netta (22nd) all performed in the second half. Running order isn’t everything though — Conchita Wurst (11th), Måns Zelmerlöw (10th) and Salvador Sobral (11th) all performed in the first half.

This now leaves only eight slots in the second half of the grand final. Twelve spots remain open in the first half.

As a result more semi-finalists will perform in the first than the second half.

What do you think about the running order positions? Who will benefit? Let us know in the comment’s box below.

Germany have never performed 2nd in their 63 year history, so it’s about time they had their turn!

They wouldn’t allow a large viewing audience the option to stop watching so early in the show.

Other countries such as France and the UK have performed 2nd, with populations above 60M people. So, no excuse!

Bilal Hassani deserves that place. But will probably end in 19th place.

the german song is really sweet, yet powerful and they sound great as well. typical pyro curtain adds to the moment at the end of the song. i think it could edge itself onto the left hand side of the scoreboard with the message of the song being so strong and prevailant but i expect it to finish between 16th and 20th

Bilal is19 years old, born 9/9/1999. Can it be that he performs as number19? And maybe win Eurovision 2019, at the 19th of this month?
Or is he getting the 9th place at the grand final? 🙂

Germany 8th-12th (can’t be 13th as it isn’t far away musically to Israeli entry and then Australia or Sweden can draw 1st half so this spot has to remain vacant). Spain 15th-18th I don’t think Spain will close the show. It will be placed probably among ballads especially if North Macedonia, Albania, Moldova and/or Serbia will qualify and somehow get into 2nd half as well. France 17th-21st Not too close to the end but also away from Israel – another self-appreciation anthem altough different, of course. UK will depend on the remaining entries but it will be later rather than… Read more »

Neither do I. Il Volo closed in Vienna 2015 and Ermal and Fabrizio closed in Lisbon last year. Too close for them to get another pimp spot. Maybe 18th-22nd. They’ll probably save one of the last 4 spots for Duncan.

I agree with you. And, honestly, I hope after Spain being 2nd last year and being La Venda such a fast-tempo song, this year the organisers grant Spain with the 26th.

It kinda depends, if all the favorites draw the second half, maybe the first half is a better place to stand out more.

Could be, but it could also be in that scenario that Duncan will be completly forgotten by a lot of people

I don’t think EBU would insult any of the Big 5 with allocating them the #2 slot. Edit: Spain had the #2 slot last year.

Spain would disagree. Being that Portugal (or Christer) placed them in 2nd last year. Might explain why the Spanish public gave Portugal 0 points last year

IIRC, it is the Swedish guy from EBU, the same guy who’s in Melodiefestivalen who decides the running order, either himself or together with someone else in EBU. So not the broadcaster of the host country. Spain had a weak song and a weak and fake act. So if Portugal didn’t give them any points, there is some justice in the Eurovision universe. But maybe I’m wrong and you are right.

It wasn’t too long ago that France had to perform 2nd. It was in Vienna 2015. Two years before that, they had to perform first.

There are many candidates left in the semis for #2 slot if they qualify and draw 1st half like North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia. Oh wait I don’t see no other maybe Denmark. I feel this year running order in the final will be messy and very unfair for some entries that are even on the top 10/12 betting odds who will draw the first half.

If it were another country I think Germany would be on 2nd or 3rd but it’s Germany so it’ll be 10th-13th like all their other 1st half deaws since 2013.

Happy for Spain! Things couldn’t go worse for Germany, I hope they don’t get last place… I also would have prefered France in the 1st half but ok

It’s completely reversed from last year–last year Portugal and most of the big five were in the first half (Italy got to close the show). How much do you wanna bet Germany will perform second in the grand final or one of the weaker finalists?

I think the staging is perfect cause Mahmood is in it. Why would anyone care about the LED or the dancers when you can just appreciate Mahmood’s beauty? He is the staging and Italy’s still in it, don’t count them out just yet.

If pattern follows, it could be Spain closing out the show. We had and Italy perform last in 2017 and 2018 respectively. At least it won’t be screwed over like last year. I hope for a top 15 result.

It was impossible for Italy to close the show in 2017 because they had to perform in the 1st half during the final due to the draw.

The Big 5 should like the host country draw the number they will perform. It would be more fair. Remember last year it was just the opposite with Spain, UK, Germany, France all in the first half but the producers chose obviously to privilege them except Spain -UK 9 Germany 11 France 13- And it had hurt favorites like Norway and Estonia forced to sing early.

How disrespectful were the producers last year. They screwed the great Rybak _hello Belarus 🙂 _ who finished first on his SF just for the big 5 benefit and their bland songs. Disgusting

NO. Germany had a great song, an excellent performer and an impacting staging. Spain was awful in every single way. UK’s song was not bad but their staging sucked. France’s entry had a relevant message given the realities facing so many innocent people, yet hypocritical in a way because of the organized crime aspect of contemporary migration towards Europe. Italy’s song was great, relevant, excellent presence on the stage, Ermal and Fabrizio believed in their song. Rybak’s entry doesn’t compare to any of the Big 5 except for Spain, and even then, it was just about a cute song and… Read more »
