Both Rotterdam and Den Haag have received big boosts to their bids to be the host city for Eurovision 2020. The province both cities are in, Zuid-Holland, has said it will help both cities with their bid.
The provence of Zuid-Holland is now stepping in. The initiative to back Rotterdam and Den Haag came from a group of polical parties. The local departments of VVD, GroenLinks, CDA, PVDA en D66 have asked in the College of the Province if the provence will help in the bid.

The question was asked by Rense Weide. The College answered:
“The provincial college writes that it ‘sees space’ for cooperation between the two largest cities in the province. “This way viewers, and therefore potential tourists, get to see the beautiful sides of the whole of South Holland (Zuid-Holland). That way, the entire province can benefit from it,”.

Possibly the announcement is a response to Noord Brabant’s promise of support to Breda and Den Bosch’s bids. Noord-Brabant has already said that they are in it to win it. This bid is a serious example of teamwork. They have made it clear that the Eurovision Song contest 2020 must come to their province and therefore everyone (also non bidding cities) has to step in. It’s also possible the province has eyes on Amsterdam, which has an advantage as the capital city.
Maastricht’s bid also has the full support of the province of Limburg.
The only cities being left a bit on their own are Arnhem, Amsterdam and Utrecht. Arnhem belongs to the provence of Gelderland. The College of the Provence of Gelderland has offered no help so far. The provence of Utrecht (city and province have the same name), has said it will help with ideas, but has made it clear it will not support financially. And the provence of Noord-Holland seems to be thinking Amsterdam can handle it on it’s own.

It should be Amsterdam. However, I would suggest postcards/promotions from other regions also. Cheese market in Alkmaar, old VOC cities of Hoorn/Enkhuizen, the Frisian lakes, student life in Groningen, Hanseatic League cities in eastern Netherlands, the wildlife of Flevoland and Gelderland, the bourgondic-style of living in the southern Netherlands, Brainport in Eindhoven, the Delta Works in Zeeland, the skyline of Rotterdam and the peace palace in The Hague, etc. Amsterdam should be the centre, but it should also pay attention to other regions and cities in The Netherlands. Would’ve been weird if Zuid- Holland backed Amsterdam and Maastricht XD
But this cooperation between Den Bosch, Breda and Tilburg is indeed a strong one, and makes for a seriously powerful bid. In my opinion most definitely matching Rotterdam’s. But I have seen Maastricht’s MECC, earlier this week, and I am starting to have doubts on its suitability for ESC..
Den Haag, Den Bosch, Utrecht and Maastricht should all withdraw. The ceiling is too low on their venues and in case of Den Haag, they don’t even have a venue with a roof.
Den Bosch and Maastricht to withdraw? Not on your f-ing Nellie! But The Hague might. If Leeuwarden deems one year too short to heighten their preferred ESC venue, how on earth is The Hague going to manage •an entire building•, in that same short space of time???

The Hague has no venue. Their idea is to put a roof on a stadium, which is not realistic considering the decision making process in the Netherlands. Or a big tent on the Malieveld. Something I doubt the EBU will agree with.
