Maltese broadcaster TVM has confirmed that Eurovision star Ira Losco will return to the judges panel for the second series of X Factor Malta. But she won’t be alone on her return trip. Joining her for the next series will be the full judges panel from the first series, along with host Ben Camille.

The news was confirmed by X Factor Malta on social media.

Howard Keith, Ira Losco, Alexandra Alden and Ray Mercieca are your Judges and Ben Camille is your Host during X Factor…

Posted by X Factor Malta on Thursday, June 20, 2019

Joining two-time Eurovision singer Ira Losco on the judges panel will be music manager Howard Keith Debono, legendary rocker Ray Mercieca and singer-songwriter Alexandra Alden.

The show will again be hosted by Ben Camille. As well as hosting the first series of X Factor Malta, he is experienced as both an actor and a television host, previously presenting the Maltese national final in 2016 and the Malta-hosted Junior Eurovision Song Contest later that year.

With the key X Factor team returning for the second year, fans are wondering if any more familiar faces will return.

The first series of X Factor Malta included former national acts such as Aidan Cassar, Petra, Janice Mangion, Miriana Conte and Franklin Calleja. Will any of these acts be tempted to take a second shot at X Factor glory?

While TVM has not yet confirmed that X Factor Malta will also be used as the national selection for Malta’s Eurovision 2020 artist, it is very likely that this will be the case.

The first series of X Factor Malta saw upcoming singer Michela Pace crowned the winner. Her Eurovision 2019 entry, “Chameleon”, was internally selected. The performance took Malta back into the grand final and earned a comfortable 14th-place finish in the final.

Online applications for X Factor Malta are still open. The new series has been confirmed to start in October this year, which will likely make X Factor Malta the start of the Eurovision 2020 national final season.

What do you think? Who would you like to see return to X Factor Malta? What kind of act should represent Malta at Eurovision 2020? Tell us your thoughts below!

Honestly this selection process has so much potential to find somebody great, but my thoughts are whoever wins the one thing I hope they would have apart from a great performance and a great voice, is just enthusiasm and charisma and enjoy performing.
Michaela’s song was a good song, the catchiness was enduring, her voice control was good for an upbeat song, it was just the charisma and energy I feel she lacked in a little bit.
But still I hope next year Malta find somebody even more brilliant, with heaps of energy, and a killer stage performance.

I still can not understand how Michela received only 20 points from the televotes and finished 14th.. Yes, Malta doesn’t usually reveive much points from the telvotes, but 20 points is really a shape!!

She should have been in the TOP 10 imo.
I hope they continue with this selection method!

And again, we have a match! Tasteful ^^ As I saw that you like “Taped”, I gave it a go, but that was not my genre 😀

Internal selections really work for Malta as we’ve seen it in JESC. And “Chameleon” is a bop. Still love it. Sure the winners of X Factor might lack experience (if unknowns enter the show, which is the case mostly) but, first, they have time to improve (PreParties and stuff) and, second, the Maltese team usually know how to make good staging. I’m seriously glad they are keeping this system and hopefully they do the act for 2020 as amazing as Michela.

Since the rules to participate season 2 are :
– be aged at least sixteen (16) by the 1st May, 2020.
– Each performance may consist of a maximum of six people on stage.
– All artists must be of Maltese nationality
It is very likely that the winner will be again the ESC Malta representative for 2020.

I hope this isn’t used as the Maltese selection again this year. Although I personally did not like Chameleon, it had real potential for a top ten or even top five placing, but it was really obvious Michela lacked the charisma or stage presence that was needed to carry the song. Not Michela’s fault, but generally talent show winners lack such experience and to be thrown onto the biggest stage their career will ever see is a huge risk. Blanche is another example, the song was a massive fan favourite but was slaughtered once rehearsals begun because of her lack… Read more »

Firstly, I said ‘this is not the case with all talent show participants’. Secondly, you cannot compare Netta and Michela because of their common denominator of being talent show winners. We know Netta had involvement in the song’s composition and probably involvement in other matters too, not to mention she was unique with the loop pedal so she would have felt a lot more comfortable on stage. My best guess is that Michela was given the song and was probably treated as nothing more than a singer whose job was to sing.

chameleon was just the wrong song for michela. she hadn’t sung anything like that during the show, her style was clearly closer to blanche or the slovenian couple. they should craft the entry around the singer next year, which they clearly didn’t do with chameleon.

Perfect! Shows every week to watch again, Robyn’s reports again, fabulous Alexandra and Ira again, Bootcamps and Live Shows again… I am so happy for Malta! 😀
PS: I want X Factor also in German Free TV again. It is the best castingshow ever, even better than “Pop Idol”. The “category system” is amazing!

It’s proven to be relatively successful for Malta, but if we’re being honest we’ll see a relative homogeny of Maltese acts while they use the X factor to choose their acts, as X factor winners tend to be overwhelmingly young. Not a criticism, just an observation.
