Duncan Laurence the netherlands Eurovision 2019

North to south, east to the west, the “Arcade” hitmaker is killing it.
And now Duncan Laurence has added yet more dates to his already expansive European tour.

As well as bringing the total number of shows to 30, Duncan has also sold out twelve Dutch shows.

The tour has been a runaway (hey Sahlene!) success, with the London date changing to a larger venue to accommodate demand. The new London venue — The Garage — is almost double the size of the previous venue.

The expansion of the tour includes Duncan’s first dates in Italy and Poland, and two shows in Spain. He’s also not just selling out shows in his homeland either. Dates in neighbouring Belgium and Germany have also sold out.

The success of this tour mirrors previous tours by winners including Salvador Sobral and Måns Zelmerlöw. However, the scale is impressive, considering less is known about Duncan’s music to come.

Fans in Tel Aviv were lucky enough to preview some of Duncan’s new material at an intimate showcase.

Iconic approval

She released her fourteenth album Madame X last week. And on the promo trail in The Netherlands, Madonna took time to speak about Eurovision and Duncan too.

Firstly she was asked about her now-infamous performance at the Eurovision grand final, both for quality and political content. Madonna was pleased with her show, saying:

I was very happy with it. I did exactly what I had planned to do, I gave exactly the show that I wanted to give, and I am very proud of the message that I have conveyed. Namely, that of peace between the Palestinians and Israel. That was what I had come for.

Madonna was then asked if she knew who won, and if she’d heard the song. She said she knew “the Dutch dude” won, and she’d seen him perform. She went on to say Duncan had a good voice, and that she liked the song. Well, if you want anyone to like your song, Madonna is not a bad place to start!

She ended the interview with small talk, asking where the interviewer thought it would be (Amsterdam or Rotterdam in this case). When asked if she wants to go again, she gave a big smile and said she’d skip it, ending with a joke about not wanting to cause trouble in The Netherlands. Pesky, much? Of course she wasn’t the only one to cause trouble, with Hatari unfurling Palestinian banners during the results.

Team Wiwi will be heading down to some of Duncan’s shows. Will we see you there? Where are you going, and are you full fangirling and going to more than one? Let us know in the comments below.

Madonna: “Dutch dude has a very good voice and I am very happy that I don’t”

That’s the title I would pick for this article.

I would say Madonna’s performance wasn’t a success, because people were so focused on the bad vocals that they didn’t even notice the flags. I didn’t.

I definitely didn’t see them watching live, and out view was decent. All I could think about was how depressingly bad it all was:

You can find it here (it’s in Dutch though, so you might want to have google translate at hand :-)): https://www.ad.nl/show/madonna-je-mag-blijkbaar-geen-lol-meer-hebben-na-je-60ste~ae7b0575/

Hope it helps. 🙂

Eurovision wasn’t mentioned on her UK promo tours, I wonder in the interviewers were briefed beforehand not to mention it following her performance?

I wonder if the guy who paid her 1,3 millions, knew that she wanted to show the P flag. I agree with her message of peace, but I wonder if that guy regrets now.
And btw, what about Iceland? Has EBU said something about their banners?

I’m guessing ultimately RÚV won’t face a major sanction given that Iveta waved a Nargono Karabkh flag in 2016 (which would have been more shocking given that Sweden has nothing to do with that conflict) and Armenia got to participate on normal terms in 2017- maybe a minor sum and a warning but if KAN doesn’t complain about Madonna then the EBU can’t be too punitive towards Hatari and RÚV, especially when they represent the views of many Icelanders.

she said she was going to do something very “political and controversial”, that’s why it took some time till they confirm her as an interval act. What were they thinking then? That she would aks if Crimea is Ukraine??

We will never know, but first I’ve heard that political message was about T r u m p. So it’s possible that she fooled the host.

As far as I remember, he was interviews on Israeli news (I’m Israeli) and he said he doesn’t regret and that it was also a surprise for him albeit I’m not quite sure how accurate my memory about it really is
