Earlier this year, Sergey Lazarev returned to Eurovision with the power ballad “Scream”. And just like in 2016, when he competed with the more upbeat “You’re The Only One”, the Russian star placed third and took home the bronze medal. Now, Sergey is switching up musical styles once again for his new song “Lovi” (“Catch”).
This new track is definitely something many Eurovision fans may not have expected from the Russian singer. Although his Eurovision entries have both been on the dramatic side, “Lovi” is instead calmer and more easygoing.
Despite being more laid back, the track is very much still catchy. There’s a nice 80s vibe running throughout, with synths aplenty.
Sergey may have brought thunder and lightning to the Eurovision stage, but here he’s providing a lovely summer breeze.
Sergey Lazarev – “Lovi”
Lyrically, the song sees Sergey wanting to spend the night with his lover, as he sings passionately: “Catch with me / these waves of the night city”.
It becomes apparent that their love may be forbidden, but the Russian star doesn’t want that to hold them back: “Dance with me / To hell with all the rules / What can hold us back?”.
This love has become almost like an addiction to Sergey. Although their time together may only last for one crazy night, the Eurovision alum already knows that he won’t be able to get over it. “To forget about you in the morning / It will be like a shot in the head / I won’t be able to / I’m hooked”.
Sergey finishes by asking where he can find his lover after the night they shared together: “Where can I find you?…I know you’ll be there / Where the breeze began / We’ll want to do it all over again”.
Whether Sergey will continue in this new musical direction is yet to be seen. But we won’t have long to find out. Commenting on Instagram, the star notes that we can look forward to both a new EP and album before the end of the year:
Thank you all for the comments! I’m glad you like it! This is only the beginning … there are still a lot of awesome songs ahead … from which you will go crazy … in the summer (maybe July, or maybe August- EP), and in the fall the Album !!!
We can’t wait to see what Sergey has in store for us!

What do you think about “Lovi”? How does it compare to his Eurovision entries? Let us know in the comments down below.
Do you think he would ever come out of the closet? Or being Russian, that’s a death sentence?
Love his voice!!
You Western folks are so obsessed with diaspora stuff… It’s kinda racist, isn’t it?
Anyway,, Sergey has the career that most of Eurovision artists (and even winners) can only dream about, he doesn’t need “disapora” to get points. And in Eurovision you need points, not charts.
As you can see only western european acts are doing well on charts, why? Spotify isn’t avaliable in ex-yu countries, ukraine, russia, belarus. If it was avaliable sergey would be placed better
No, they don’t. Tell me what eastern country or countries from past years did well on charts as in, ranked in top 5?
If your opinion about diaspora is true then why didn’t they help yulia to qualify to the final?
Some songs are not radio friendly like jamala’s and she won. None of your points make sense.
What have the charts have to do with a song contest? He had a very strong song and he is one of the 4 artists in history of eurovision that managed two top 3 placings.
Lys Assia, Isabelle Aubret, Cliff Richard, Gigliola Cinquetti, Anne-Marie David, Johnny Logan, Linda Martin, Carola, Elisabeth Andreasson, Wind, Chiara, Elena Paparizou, Dima Bilan, Zeljko Joksimovic and Sergey all have 2 placings in Top 3. Katja Ebstein even has 3 (1970, 1971 and 1980). I might forget someone, that’s only from my memory.
I guess the research could have been a little bit better.
And what has this got to do with Lovi or this article?!
Well…
*Lenny face*
very nice track, it reminds me of Modern Talkind and Depeche Mode!
Same!
