He’s the gothic showman who represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2018 and helped to maintain his country’s perfect qualification record. And now, MÉLOVIN is proving that there is a lot more under his ladder than his English-language hits with the new music video for his latest song  “Ти” (“You”).

While “That’s Your Role” got his European fans very excited, MÉLOVIN’s latest release is gaining momentum back home and in Russia. The song was originally released as “Ты”, and contained a mix of both Russian and Ukrainian lyrics. But with the release of the music video last week, the star also dropped a solely Ukrainian version of the track, “Ти”. That’s right, MÉLOVIN is making full use of his bilingual abilities!

A self-penned pop-rock number with a keyboard opening, “Ти” has got MÉLOVIN’s drama sprinkled all over it. The Eurovision alum’s voice ushers in a mood full of suspense.

 MÉLOVIN – “Ти”

The music video is set in a casino, and sees MÉLOVIN dressed in all black. Looking suave whilst occasionally flashing his chest tattoo, the singer dives into a racy love scene with a sexy brunette. He plays a conniving character, and for the first time, he departs from his usual androgynous self. However, the gothic showman is still in there, and his trademark eyes remain piercing.

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, MÉLOVIN explains:

Unexpectedly for me, the song “Ти” became a real hit in Ukraine. At the time of its release, the team and I did not think that it would become so popular. Initially, it was bilingual – it combined both Russian and Ukrainian. Then there was a great demand to do it in the Ukrainian language – and we did it.

The video, by the way, was filmed in the Ukrainian as well. I think, despite the fact that the video was filmed in Ukrainian, the song may be to the taste of my European audience. Hopefully, by the time of my concerts in Europe, the fans will sing along with me in Ukrainian.

“Ти” re-unites producer Katerina Malaya and director Taras Golubkov — the same team that worked on the music video for his Eurovision hit “Under The Ladder”. The female lead role is played by the winner of Miss Grand Ukraine 2018, Yana Laurinaichute. On working with her, MÉLOVIN says:

Yana and I worked together perfectly – she is smart, beautiful, and also a talented actress. It was the hardest shooting for me – hot and stuffy to the point that I felt dizzy. I was in the frame for 20 hours, and therefore with every hour it was getting harder and harder. But precisely the support of Yana helped me to control myself. As well, the team was already familiar to me, headed by producer Katya Mala and director Taras Golubkov – all the difficulties were solved with these professionals.

So what do you think of MÉLOVIN’s latest single? Are you loving it as much as we are? Do you prefer his songs in English or Ukrainian? Let us know in the comments section below.
