Malta is due to celebrate Pride Week in early September — but it wouldn’t be Pride without an anthem. This year an all-star group of Maltese singers has joined forces on “Roll the Dice”. The track features Malta’s Eurovision 2017 star Claudia Faniello, as well as familiar faces from Maltese national finals and the X Factor Malta.

The music was written by MESC regular Dominic Cini  (who also sings) and Swedish songwriter Jonas Gladnikoff, with lyrics by Etienne Micallef and a guest verse from Maltese drag queen Chucky Bartolo.

“Roll the Dice” has playful, uplifting lyrics, urging the listener to “Just believe in yourself, in who you are/And the past will heal, remove the scars”.

The song celebrates making the most out of life and also taking chances. Or as the lyrics urge, “Life is short, make hair flips count/All your problems will surmount”.

Singing alongside Claudia Faniello is her mum — and X Factor Malta star — Anna Faniello. Other X Factor alums include Mirana Conte, Stefan Galea, and Jade Vella.

The song also features stars from previous Maltese national finals, including regular Franklin Calleja (who doesn’t feature in the music video) and MESC 2017 runner-up Janice Mangion.

The song also includes Vanessa Sultana, Joseph Refalo, Sebastian Calleja, Marilena Gauci, Ina Robinich and Tiziana Calleja.

“Roll the Dice” – Malta Pride 2019

“Roll the Dice” lyrics

You were born to be on the frontline
Keep the crown, you will just shine
All the battles you have won
No more shadows, face the sun
Just believe in yourself, in who you are
And the past will heal, remove the scars
You’re a wonder girl, you will go far
Take a step, let go, just be bizarre

Dance with me and sing your heart out
Feel the heat, the beat is loud now
Find the light you should have no doubt
Touch the sky and fly so high

Don’t be moody, shake that booty
Be the star of your own movie
Feel the vibes and get all groovy
Don’t be shy and never cry

That smile will always glow,
You only have to show
Don’t dim your light, don’t lose sight
Go on and roll the dice
The spark within your eyes
Won’t fade away, no, no, no

Life is short, make hair flips count
All your problems will surmount
Move your hips dance to the beat
Keep that smile and tap your feet
Keep your heels, your head and standards high
And the dancefloor just electrify
Walk the stair of swords don’t be afraid
Be explosive like a hand grenade

Dance with me and sing your heart out
Feel the heat, the beat is loud now
Find the light you should have no doubt
Touch the sky and fly so high

That smile will always glow
You only have to show
Don’t dim your light, don’t lose sight
Go on and roll the dice
The spark within your eyes
Won’t fade away, no, no, no

Ok, it’s my turn so listen up
This song is all about being yourself
So own who you are, take a chance at life, roll the dice
And girl, step your p***y up

That smile will always glow
You only have to show
Don’t dim your light, don”t lose sight
Go on and roll the dice
The spark within your eyes
Won’t fade away, no, no, no

Dance with me and sing your heart out
Feel the heat, the beat is loud now
Don’t dim your light, don’t lose sight
Go on and roll the dice
The spark within your eyes
Won’t fade away, no, no, no

I loved Chucky’s X factor Malta reviews last year. Great to see him in this. Love everything about this… except these comments. You need to calm down. Throwing shade never made anybody less gay.

…and please, can someone give Claudia a big tar of antiwrinkle cream… damn, she looks at least 20 years older than she is… she looks like an old maltese matron

it’s such a cliche song… gays are more than “crowns”, “shines” and shaking booties… i think these kind of songs are not really helping on giving a message that we are equal, no matter who we love, or who we fuck

These lyrics: “And girl, step your p***y up”?! 😀
If it comes to pride I am with Saara Aalto’s dice instead: “I’m gonna roll the dice, you better believe it! I ain’t scared no more!” 😀 😀
HAPPY PRIDE EVENTS Y’ALL! (insert rainbow flag)

I was just thinking how cool Anna Faniello would have been as Malta’s Eurovision representative but then I thought the people in charge might be so tone-deaf that they might have made her sing “Chameleon” as well.

Claudia Faniello is unrecognizable. All her life she was struggling to be thin. Claudia, stop! You are Monica Bellucci of Malta. Don’t try to be a boring skinny.

Eat something Claudia. Being malnourished is not sexy.

Better than a boring skinny shamer. She can be as skinny as she wants to be.

She was depressed 7 years because of fat shaming. Literally ill. Try to see the whole picture, people are more bullied if they are not thin. I followed her story.

lol so now you wanna keep bullying her for daring to lose weight? Much better, I’m sure she’d be delighted about that.

I have no bad intentions. Read the story of Karen Carpenter. No reason to accuse me for telling her to eat what she wants.
