Every year the Eurovision Song Contest serves up a smörgåsbord of fabulous fashion. We all know about the infamous Barbara Dex Award, which is given to the worst dressed artist annually. But we wanted to know who you think nailed their Eurovision couture in 2019. Italy’s Mahmood oozed class and soldi in a bold patterned shirt. Portugal’s Conan Osiris served an emerald city fantasy. And Iceland’s Hatari stunned us with leather and chains. But one lady rocked the runway like no other. After counting your votes, we are pleased to reveal that Australia’s Kate Miller-Heidi has won the Vision Music Award 2019 for Best Dressed.

Eurovision 2019 was not a year for subtlety: the entire continent served extravagant haute-couture. With Australia’s staging involving Kate soaring in zero gravity, her costume needed to match the angelic heights of her song. And she certainly delivered, with a white gown that reached from stage to skies, along with a crown that delivered Ice-Queen realness. Kate’s backing singers were not left out of the equation either, with both of them embracing the wind machines in flowing black numbers.

We add Kate Miller-Heidke to the best dressed roster, where she joins Poland’s Kasia Mos from 2017, Michael Szpak from 2016, Russia’s Polina Gagarina from 2015, Ukraine’s Mariya Yaremchuk from 2014 and Romania’s Cezar from 2013.

Best Dressed 2019: Full Results

1. Australia – Kate Miller-Heidke: 983 votes (31.91%)

2. Iceland – Hatari: 782 votes (25.38%)

3. Albania – Jonida Maliqi: 605 votes (19.64%)

4. Italy – Mahmood: 463 votes (15.03%)

5. Portugal – Conan Osiris: 248 votes (8.05%)

Bilal not even nominated for this? Surprising.
I think Norway did a good job, too.

Surprising nominations!

Think we all know that this was Maruv’s award. 😉

Duncan Laurence should have won this IMO. The jacket he wore is made of more than one hundred year old French linen sheets and dyed by hand. The use of different sheets ensures that there is some color difference which gives a special effect. The starting point of the designer was not to strive for perfection, because it is imperfection that makes this kind of clothing characteristic and interesting. The vulnerability of his song corresponds with the transience of Duncan’s clothing. Stylish and qualitative clothing therefore that subtly enhances the message of the song!

I appreciate your opinion, but let’s be honest: it was a miracle he wasn’t awarded the Barbara Dex-award. His suit did absolutely nothing for him.

Agreed, but Mahmood and Conan didn’t deserve to be on this list.

I agree a lot with this award ! Kate deserved it 😉

Katerine, Jonida and Tulia were also well-dressed 🙂

Kate would have been on a hat-trick of wins already, after just 4 awards have been announced thus far, if she rightfully got nominated for, and undoubtedly won, the ‘best live vocals’ award… Yes, I’m still bitter about that! Expect me to bitch and moan about this a few more times lol 🙂

While it was difficult to pick the best vocalist because there were a lot of great ones, it’s also difficult to pick the best dressed, but the reason here is that nothing was particularly outstanding. Though Kate’s dress was a huge improvement from what we’ve seen in the national final, I would go with Hatari and Mahmood, because their costumes were a perfect fit for the vibe they were looking for.

Kate had the best staging but not the best dress. Her dress was right just because it could hide how her legs were in some trousers that made her perform. But the dress itself would not have won in normal circumstances.
