She’s the Eurovision’s Next Top Model winner working high fashion across international borders. Tamar Kaprelian represented Armenia at Eurovision 2015 as part of Genealogy. She later competed at Depi Evratesil 2018 as a fan favourite and won the Wiwi Jury vote in a landslide. Tamar’s activity in Armenia has not gone unnoticed, with her work with the Nvak Foundation covered on NowThis News.

Nvak Foundation

In the segment, Tamar discusses setting up the Nvak Foundation. The foundation was set up to “help young women amplify their voices”. Tamar discusses the Armenian culture being male-dominated and also giving women the opportunity to have their voices heard.

Tamar realised that the talent in Armenia was not being fully utilised, with a lot of women lacking the support they need to be taken seriously in the music industry. Nvak is primarily a female empowerment program but also includes male musicians.

Tamar’s participation at Eurovision coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Tamar says that “even though music is something that runs very deep in the Armenian culture, the Armenian people had other things that they were struggling for”. As a result, Tamar believes that music education was not a major focus for Armenian people. The Nvak Foundation also aims to change that by providing aspiring musicians with a platform to learn, collaborate and be heard.

Nvak’s expansion

Nvak has recently expanded to Eurovision 2019 host country Israel and Malawi and hopes to expand to other developing nations in the future. Regarding expansion, Tamar says that “we never want to impose our way of creating music on any culture”. Rather, Nvak wishes to provide musicians with the tools they need to express themselves in the way they feel best.

Nvak has also begun to work with record labels to professionally publish its artists’ music. This Friday, the first such single will be released by Warner Music, featuring 18 year-old singer Brunette.

And this is relevant for Eurovision because…? Seriously, even if I admire her work and commitment, not everything an ex esc representative does is relevant to a blog about eurovision.

How is this not relevant to the Eurovision community? Tamar was a member of Geneology who represented Armenia in 2015; went on to produce a song with 5 other eurovision artists and then took part in Armenian national final in 2017…I say it’s pretty relevant

“I think the other developing nations” reference was for Malawi to imply what the purpose of the foundation is.
