He’s touring all over Europe this fall and his Eurovision number “Soldi” is still going strong. And now Mahmood is keeping the momentum going with the release of a new single titled “Barrio“.

With “Barrio” — that’s Spanish for neighborhood — Mahmood continues the theme of connectivity we saw in “Soldi”. Once again he builds the song around relationships — in this instance friendships — creating an ode to the every day.

“Barrio”was created with the production team of Dardust and Charlie Charles. They also worked together on the summer hit “Calipso”, which achieved platinum status in Italy. “Calipso” co-writer Davide Petrella also contributed to Mahmood’s latest effort.

CERCAMI NEL BARRIO…

“Barrio”: Everything you need to know about Mahmood’s new track

A Latin slap in the face, the track comes with a contemporary beat that mixes exotic elements like a flamenco guitar with Mahmood’s signature sound. Inspired by the great Francisco Tarerega, who composed the well-known piece “Capricho Arabe” back in 1892, it unites Arabic and Spanish culture.

But this isn’t a lazy fusion with some urban backing. Mahmood wants to take things in a new direction, as he revealed in an interview with Italian news outlet Corriere Della Sera. He was determined not to repeat himself and avoided putting out another urban and trap crossover track.

But mixing culture and origins is always worth repeating, and he does this with great skill. The Spanish-language title “Barrio” implies community — and all the struggles, challenges and joys that can entail. And dropping the Egyptian goddess Isis in the lyrics conveys the magnanimity that neighbors can bring. The goddess was known to invoke healing spells to benefit ordinary people.

The music video for “Barrio” is set for a September 2 release. Attilio Cusani is the director. He was also in charge of the “Soldi” video, which has clocked up more than 100 million views to date. After perusing the teasers that are out so far, we can say rather confidently that Mahmood is about to drop another piece of visual pleasure.

What do you think about Mahmood’s new song? And will you be attending one of his concerts this fall? Let us know in the comments down below!

He is just fabulous. What a voice. Mixing cultures and all that kind of stuff is “blessing”. Salud from Serbia.

I like the song, despite it not really being the type of music I listen to… the hook with loading the gun is fun.

Mahmood did it again! This man came out of the darkness and rose to Olympus with the speed of light! And he achieved that because of his sense for the modern, fresh, contemporary and interesting! Every of his songs got that very special and unique Mahmood flavour, which makes them all so great! Barrio is no exception! I was really overwhelmed, that Mahmood managed it to overcome my expectations again! I thought, that this is absolutely impossible after Soldi! But with Barrio, he crowned himself! This song just screams Mahmood from so many different angles! Barrio unites the best flavours… Read more »

Mahmood is very versatile and likes to change; but Barrio has, as all his songs, deep lyrics and his vocals stand out.
Also in Gioventù bruciata there are songs with very different style, like Soldi, Asia occidente, anni 90…
He’s working also with theKatoo for some of his next songs (they worked together for Asia Occidente, il Nilo nel Naviglio…) so I m sure next album will be very varied

This new song of Mahmood is a real gem, different from the other songs of Gioventù bruciata but with the usual quality content we expect from Mahmood.
Thank you Mahmood, you are the revelation of this Eurovision !

This song is very good
Mahmood is a guy who wants to experiment and it can be seen here, this song contains a mix of sounds and influences that blend perfectly with his voice.
The song is very catchy but at the same time not banal and with a meaning.
Congratulations Alessandro, you are a talent?

A very pleasant follow-up to Mahmood’s Eurovision performance, retaining the style of his debut album Gioventù Bruciata — mixing traditional instrumentation with modern production. Thoughtful lyrics and a real earworm. Looking forward to more discography from him.
