She, alongside Davina Michelle, is among Duncan Laurence’s favourites to represent the Netherlands on home soil in 2020. But singer-songwriter Naaz has now said that she doesn’t think that she could withstand the intensity of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Raised in Eurovision 2020 host city Rotterdam, Naaz landed on the public radar after her audition on Holland’s Got Talent in 2014. It took her several years to establish her musical career, but she finally had her breakthrough in 2017 with the single “Words”.

It’s no surprise that Duncan Laurence picked her as one of his favourites to succeed him on the ESC stage. Her fresh style and slightly experimental sound would definitely bring something new to a contest that’s constantly evolving.

Speaking to Nu.nl, Naaz said that 2020 isn’t her time.

“Not at this stage in my life. Maybe not ever, if the Netherlands wants that too….I have noticed that I can endure the attention if I still have time to make music, but the peak [of attention] that Eurovision would bring is not something I want….I am very satisfied with the process I am in now, in which I can make what I want at my own pace.”

Naaz revealed she was honoured, but that she simply would not be able to cope with endless attention and pressure the contest brings. That echoes the words of Duncan’s other favourite Davina Michelle.

Last year, the “Duurt te lang” hitmaker had just broken through in the Dutch music industry. She was rumoured to be in contention to represent the Netherlands in 2019 before Duncan was revealed.

Davina revealed last week that she has neither been asked to represent the country, nor does she know whether she would actually accept. Speaking on the talk show Beau, she said:

“First and foremost, I have not been asked whether I want it, so I find it difficult to say yes or no. And secondly, it will take a lot of time from me…I think that I will have to think hard when they ask me.”

However, the singer is still regarded as one of the most likely representatives for the Netherlands in 2020, with many singers and presenters pointing their finger towards her.

Who would you like to see to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2020? Do you want Naaz to fly the flag in the future? Let us know in the comments below!

I just don’t get why The Netherlands would want Davina M. to represent them. Yes, she had one #1 hit with a cover but there’s nothing special about her. Her voice is not distinctive but more rather bland. Not a winner in my opinion.

I don’t want her to represent us. She’s very overrated. Her vocal technique is really bad and she makes standard pop songs, nothing that could get top 3 in Eurovision.

They might also not be that enthusiastic because host entrants rarely do well

Maybe for the last 5 years, but they do have some successes before

These two are put forward by fans every single year. Its getting a bit boring now tbh. Unpopular opinion but I would like to see Haris represent the Netherlands. He won the X Factor back in 2013 and I think he could bring something fresh to the contest.

Hopefully Davina Michelle won’t represent the Netherlands. She does not seem excited about the possibility. There are plenty of Dutch artists who would love to go to Eurovision.
