Since representing Switzerland at Eurovision 2017, Timebelle have found a true creative partner in Soundland. They joined forces with the DJ on “Come Around” , “Moving On” and “Heartache”. And they’ve come together again on“Black Sea” — an uplifting and mysterious number that works as well on Spotify as it does during radio drive-time.

Penned by lead singer Miruna Manescu, “Black Sea” is an emotional ballad. The lyrics read like wise words from an ancient sage — someone who has lived long and fought plenty of battles. Miruna advises the listener to draw positive experiences from within and to reflect on the good times to lay down a positive path forward.

Soundland’s production gives the composition added heart and pulls this track into 2019. The video was filmed at Switzerland’s Blue Lake. A naturally beautiful setting in the Bernese Oberland where thick green forests cradle an intensely blue lake, it’s serene and awe-inspiring. The video depicts the feeling of freedom in a space where nature allows it.

Speaking exclusively with wiwibloggs, Timebelle unpacked it all.

“The name of the song reflects on a dear old memory from childhood. Most of us went to the seaside with our families when we were young. The ‘Black Sea’ can be any sea in the world. The main draw here is to connect with that sweet moment when you felt free and loved, when you felt safe and sound, and when you had your family by your side. The memory of living for today and not worrying about growing older.”

“The paradox is that we filmed ‘Black Sea’ at the Blue Lake (Oeschinensee and Blausee). It is a very picturesque lake populated with all kinds of fish. The lake has a constant temperature of only 8 degrees celsius the entire year, so it was not comfortable for Miruna to film. The water was so cold, it was raining non-stop on the day of filming, and the fish were always nibbling around Miruna’s feet — it is a miracle that we managed to overcome all the challenges during two days of filming.”

“But we all worked as a team. From Isabella Vijiiac’s white dress to the masterful guidance of video director Leonid Cojocaru, we all fought hard to create a reactive atmosphere to the mood of the day and the feeling of the song.”

Black Sea (lyrics)

Young girl what you do,
Young girl what you say,
Young girl how you feel,
Trust me, everything’s a phase.

I know you think I
Must apologize
For what I put you through
But now you feel like I used to.

Bridge

Walking in cold days
And everyone’s looking
Seems like I’m all alone.

Chorus

Take a swim in the Black Sea
And dive with me.

Verse 2

So where are you now?
Are you happy now?
I hope there’s a place
Where you can fish right at your pace.

You’re Big Fish to me,
I hope that I’ll see
See you in Black Sea
Where we’ll be swimming young and free.

Bridge

Walking in cold days
And everyone’s looking
Seems like I’m all alone.

Chorus

Take a swim in the Black Sea
And dive with me.

Don’t even know if they want it, but I would like if they had a second chance in Eurovision. They should had qualified, even if the prom-staging was a big mistake.
