His Eurovision winning song tells the story of a broken heart and spending all the love you’ve saved.

But it seems Duncan Laurence‘s latest relationship ended on better terms than the one that inspired “Arcade”.

That’s because in a candid interview with GraziaLaurence has revealed things are still amicable with his now ex-boyfriend Gerco Derksen:

“We have parted in good harmony. We are still good friends, we meet regularly.”

Laurence says he’s “pleased” about that as the couple had shared so many “special moments together”.

Duncan’s ex Gerco was with the “Arcade” hitmaker in Tel Aviv, but kept a low profile.

And while Eurovision 2019 will hold many happy memories for Duncan, he also thinks it hastened the breakup:

“Eurovision and everything around it has turned my life upside down, but I will not say that it was the cause of our break, but I think it has accelerated things.”

Ultimately, says Laurence, the couple realised they saw each other more as friends than lovers:

“The bottom line is that we saw each other more as friends than as loved ones. At some point you have to be honest about that. We then said to each other: “It doesn’t work anymore.”

Duncan had shared news of the breakup on August 21 through Twitter to his 25k followers:

But the Grazia interview is the first time he’s opened up about the reasons behind the breakup.

Fans have since inundated Duncan with relationship requests, ranging from providing their phone number to full-on marriage proposals.

Unfortunately for fans, Duncan insists he needs to meet “face-to-face”:

“I am someone who is very down to earth . If I meet someone, it must be in real life, face to face, and then it happens to you. I’m not going to look it up. If it happens then it happens.”

While that may be disappointing for fans, they may be happy to find out that new music is finally on the way:

On September 12, the star tweeted his followers to say that he was listening to his new single.

Duncan has been teasing his follow-up single for more than a month. And it still has not been released.

So our chances of ending up together increased from 0.000000000001% to 0.000000000002%? That’s a big news!

Only nice words celebrities say when they break up. Let’s be real. Duncan wants something better now. He feels he is in a higher league now. I can feel the downvotes, but I’m right.

You’re right. Dude is definitely still in the same league, though.

Thank you! Celebrity is so bad for personal happiness. Duncan thinks he’s better now. It will be tough for him to go back to reality.

“But i’m right”, Curb the cockiness, dude. You know as much about the situation as everyone else. We shouldn’t go around making assumptions about other people’s break ups. It’s rather uncalled for.

The downvotes are more directed towards the awfully conducted 1991 Eurovision edition … if you can’t and don’t want to speak anything other than Italian, hand the job to someone far more professional. Italians’ lack of linguistic literacy and lack of will to learn it can be kinda described as an old untrained sax player during a Greek song … a train wreck …

I see cynicism has entered the house.

Tbh, you cant tell unless you know him personally. It happens a lot, but maybe this case is different, who knows. If its not true and they really decided they both don’t want it, its cool. If Duncan out od sudden became diva and wants “something better” then its great for both of them as well. Duncan can look wherever he want and his bf isn’t stuck in toxic relationship. So in both scenarios, both end up well.
