He took Europe by storm at Eurovision 2019. And following his immense Melodifestivalen win, John Lundvik’s career has kept going strong. Now, he’s dropped his brand new single titled “One Night in Bangkok”.

The Swedish singer has teamed up again with Anderz Whretov and Andreas Stone Johansson, who were also behind the production of his Eurovision entry “Too Late For Love”.

But, this new song is definitely not “Too Late For Love” 2.0. It’s an uptempo pop track, which creates a refreshing contrast to his previous soulful ballads, including Melfest 2018 entry “My Turn”.

“One Night in Bangkok” sees John Lundvik draw inspiration from a trip to the Thai capital. But not everything seems to go well, as he somewhat feels lost in the massive city, saying he was “fading to black”.

Nevertheless, the second he met a certain someone it all changed for him. In the chorus he sings “then everything came alive (…) I fell in love with you before I even knew your name”. John forgets that he was once lost after falling for this person.

Thus, the song’s lyrics describe the way his feelings change from one moment to another. It’s a roller coaster of emotions that finds its happy ending, as John gets to spend time with that special person who makes him feel unlike before. And it’s that turnaround that lets “One Night in Bangkok” become a song filled with personal feelings and emotions.

Soncially, the uptempo cut includes some electronic sounds that go along very well with John’s vocal delivery. Picking up steam in the verses, it all comes down to the climax near the end of the track.

John Lundvik — “One Night in Bangkok”

Following his Melodifestivalen win, and fifth-place finish at Eurovision, it’s been an extremely successful year for the Swedish singer so far. His Eurovision entry “Too Late For Love” has accumulated close to thirty million streams on Spotify alone.

He subsequently released his first EP My Turn. And now, he’s about to head off on tour with The Mamas all over Sweden, Denmark and even Finland in October.

Another Swedish rip off! Exact copy of Storm by Victor Crone (ESC Estonia 2019). How transparent can you be?!

I got a little excited when I saw the title, thinking this was the cover of the exceptional song from Chess with collaboration with Benny and Björn. But then I read the story and realised it wasn’t… Such a shame!

Why would he release a song with the same title as the much superior one from Chess? It just invites comparison, inevitably leading to disappointment…sorry John.
