They are the backing singers who helped John Lundvik shine on the Tel Aviv stage. Now The Mamas are set to enter Melodifestivalen on their own. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that The Mamas will be on the roster for Melodifestivalen 2020.

The group — made up of Loulou Lamotte, Ashley Haynes, Paris Renita and Dinah Yonas Manna — came together earlier this year to support John Lundvik in his “Too Late For Love” performance at Melodifestivalen.

But come 2020, they will have the spotlight all to themselves. Aftonbladet reports that The Mamas will perform a soul-funk song.

However, there will be one less Mama than there was in Tel Aviv. In August, the group announced that the group’s founder Paris Renita would be leaving the group in autumn, to focus on her solo work. The Mama have, however, continued as a threesome.

Following the group’s Melfest 2019 success and fifth-place Eurovision finish, they soon established themselves as more than just backing singers.

The group recently completed a Scandinavian tour with John Lundvik. This December, the trio is also set to perform their own Christmas show in Stockholm, A Christmas Night to Remember.

Melodifestivalen 2020: What we know so far

The iconic Melodifestivalen tour will kick off with semi-final one in Linköping on 1 February, semi two in Gothenburg on 8 February, semi-final three in Luleå on 15 February, and the fourth semi-final will be held in Malmö on 22 February. The andra chansen round will be held in Eskilstuna on 29 February, while the grand final — as always — will be held at Friends Arena in Stockholm on March 7th.

SVT has also confirmed the hosts of Melodifestivalen 2020. Former Alcazar singer Lina Hedlund, jazz/pop singer Linnea Henriksson and comedian David Sundin will host the shows.

SVT is expected to reveal the lucky 28 competing acts of Melodifestivalen 2020 sometime in November.

The Mamas will be joined at Melodifestivalen 2020 by Victor Crone, Hanna Ferm, Jakob Karlberg and P4 Nästa wildcard winner Amanda Aasa.

What do you think? Are you excited that The Mamas will be at Melodifestivalen 2020? Who else would you like to see in the competition? Tell us your thoughts below!

Tbh they should have been credited “feat. The Mamas” for Sweden last year. It’ll be interesting to hear their own song.

I called it….I had a feeling this was going to happen…especially after he was taking them on the road
I was imagining he was going to write a song for them for next year’s Melfest
At least they will bring diversity in song to Melfest which always suffers from sameness

They’re arguably one of if not the most memorable backing singers in modern contest history, partly down to a more prominent role than most backing singers have, but they were excellent. Good luck to them, if true!

This would be a lot of fun, they’re amazing. I would also love to see The Divaz back in the French final. Supposing a French final will exist, of course.

Probably not gonna win but I’m sure they’ll bring something good. We really need a group like them or The Divaz at Eurovision asap.

The Mamas are legendary, and they’re responsible for half of the points John Lundvik got (or maybe even more), but I can’t really imagine what their song would be like. I think they work great as a background for the lead singer, I’m not sure if their stand alone act would have had the same power, still, I’d be more than glad to be proven wrong. And you’ve gotta remember that this news comes from “Aftonbladet”, the most trustworthy Swedish newspaper.

Aftonbladet has correctly picks 24 out of 27 entries this year. And they usually get them right. So I would defintely watch this closely
