France in Junior Eurovision 2019: Carla “Bim Bam Toi”

Before 2018, France competed once in 2004. And despite finishing sixth, it decided to withdraw saying there is a lack of motivation and “too much Eurovision kills Eurovision”. Well, how is Eurovision not dead then…? Thankfully, the Gauls returned to the contest in Minsk. Angelina Nava placed second with “Jamais Sans Toi” scoring 203 points. Best comeback ever, hands down!

Due to the raging success of the 2018 entry, France Télévisions received triple the number of submissions this year. Carla was then internally selected, and “Bim Bam Toi” was released on 11 October.

Carla Lazzari certainly has the stage presence and experience that everyone wants to see in a Eurovision star. She placed fourth on the fifth edition of The Voice Kids France while under the mentorship of Eurovision 1993’s Patrick Fiori.

Upon sharing the news of her selection on Instagram, Carla says she will do everything to do her country proud and thanks all those who have believed in her and supported her in this journey so far.

What do the “Bim Bam Toi” lyrics mean?

While the common theme for nearly all the songs is “save the world”, France opts to showcase something unconventional. In the colourful music video, Carla reminds us of Millie Bobby Brown but, yes, way perkier. One gets a first-hand impression that this song is all about young kids falling in love for the first time with butterflies in their bellies. This is something which speaks to both adults and kids. We all remember what was it like to be 14 and in love, don’t we?

“I need some courage / To face your eyes / But is one ever wise / When one is in love?

Rightly said. No one is ever wise when in love, especially in their teens.

“Ça fait ‘bim, bam’, là / ‘Bim, bam’, là / Ça fait ‘bim, bam, quoi?’ / I love you, je crois que c’est ça.”

Good luck getting the catchy tune outta your head.

In the music video, Carla is seen performing some kickass moves with her dancers. The neon coloured boxes surely add a touch of funk. Lake Malawi called to say they like the staging 😉 .

“It goes ‘bim, bam’, there / ‘Bim, bam’, there / It goes ‘bim, bam, what? / I love you, I think that’s it.”

We love you too Carla. The perfect reine to succeed Bilal’s roi.

French text

Les mots me manquent
Pourtant j aimerai crier
muette saltimbanque
à la gorge nouée
Et ça monte,
ça monte,
ça monte,
Jusqu’à c’que
mon petit coeur disjoncte.

Et ça fait
Bim bam boum
ça fait Pshht
et ça fait vroum
ça fait
Bim bam boum
Dans ma tête y’a tout qui tourne
ça fait shht
et puis Blabla
ça fait
Comme ci, comme ça
ça fait bim bam
Ahahah
Dans mon coeur je comprends pas

ça fait bim bam là,
Bim bam Là,
ça fait Bim bam quoi?
I love you je crois qu’c’est ça
Ca fait bim bam là
Bim bam Là
Ca fait Bim bam quoi?
I love you je crois qu’cest ca

J ai beau tenter rien ne perce
Depuis mes lèvres closes
Mais j avoue je confesse
A l’intérieur j explose
Et ça monte,
ça monte,
ça monte,
Jusqu’à c’que
mon petit coeur disjoncte

Et ça fait
Bim bam boum
ça fait Pshht
et ça fait vroum
ça fait
Bim bam boum
Dans ma tête y’a tout qui tourne
ça fait shht
et puis Blabla
ça fait
Comme ci comme ça
ça fait bim bam
Ahahah
Dans mon coeur je comprends pas

ça fait bim bam là
Bim bam Là
ça fait fait
Bim bam quoi?
I love you je crois qu’c’est ça
Ca fait bim bam là
Bim bam Là
Ca fait Bim bam quoi?
I love you je crois qu’c’est ca

Il m en faudrait du courage
pour affronter tes yeux
mais est on jamais sage
quand on est amoureux

Et ça fait
Bim bam boum
ça fait Pshht
et ça fait vroum
ça fait
Bim bam boum
Dans ma tête y’a tout qui tourne
ça fait shht
et puis Blabla
ça fait
Comme ci comme ça
ça fait bim bam
Ahahah

Dans mon coeur je comprends pas
ça fait bim bam là
Bim bam Là
ça fait Bim bam quoi?
I love you je crois qu’c’est ça

English translation

I don’t have the words.
Yet I’d like to scream
A mute acrobat
with a knotted throat
And it goes up,
it goes up,
it goes up,
Until the time
my little heart goes crazy.

And its goes
Bim bam boom
It goes Pshht
and it goes Vroom
it goes
Bim bam boom
In my head there’s everything is spinning
It goes shht.
and then blah blah
it’s goes
Like this, like this.
It’s like a bim bam
Ahahah
In my heart I don’t understand

It’s like a bim bam there,
Bim bam bam there,
It’s like Bim bam what?
I love you I think that’s it
It’s like a bim bam there.
Bim bam there
It’s like Bim bam what?
I love you I think that’s it

Although I try, nothing gets through.
From my closed lips
But I confess, I confess.
Inside I explode
And it goes up,
it goes up,
it goes up,
Until the time
my little heart is going crazy.

And it goes
Bim bam boom
It goes Pshht.
and it goes Vroom.
it goes
Bim bam boom
In my head there’s everything spinning in my head
It’s like shht.
and then blah blah,
it goes
like this like that
It’s like a bim bam boom
Ahahah
In my heart I don’t understand

It’s like bim bam there
Bim bam there
It goes goes
Bim bam what?
I love you I think that’s it
It’s like a bim bam there.
Bim bam there
It’s like Bim bam what?

I love you I think that’s it
I would need a lot of courage
to look you in the eyes
but you’re never wise
when you’re in love

And it goes
Bim bam bam
It goes Pshht.
and it goes vroom
it goes
Bim bam boom
In my head there’s everything is spinning
It goes shht.
and then blah, blah,
it goes, goes
like this like that
It’s like a bim bam
Ahahah

In my heart I don’t understand
It’s like bim bam there.
Bim bam there
It’s like Bim bam what?
I love you I think that’s it

Don’t know why but the onomatopoeia remind me of Comic Strip by Serge Gainsbourg. Satisfied with my country’s entry

Normally, I don’t like this kind of song. But this one wins me over. I agree with what Skiwalko said below, “it’s lighthearted, yet not silly, it’s sassy, yet not rude, it’s entertaining, yet not overdone.”

Also the contrast between the verses and the chorus sounds really good.

The fact I like this means the appeal is pretty broad and it could very well be the winner.

The one to watch this year! If France nail the staging then it will be a very Likely winner. No matter how much Polish fans vote for Vicki they cannot influence the jury! If France comes second with the online voting and first with the jury then its oveeeer

i dont know about that. 10 million poles have destroyed the contest last year and will do it again this year and next. If the rules are not changed Poland will win forever. I think its over already sadly. Poland have won.

I hate it when people sing dumb nonsense words like “bim bam boum”. And dont interprete a deep meaning behind this.

I don’t follow Junior Eurovision closely and haven’t listened to all the contestants this year, but from those I got to know, this is by far my favorite. It’s fun, catchy and unexpected. And as Skiwalko mentioned, it has enough charm to appeal to kids and adults. It’s sort like a Pixar movie. 😀 Well done, Igit, Barbara and Carla!

Love it! It’s upbeat, yet not generic, it’s lighthearted, yet not silly, it’s sassy, yet not rude, it’s entertaining, yet not overdone. It’s for everyone – child-friendly enough to be fun for kids, catchy and high-quality enough for adults to enjoy. That’s the type of song we need at JESC, great job France!
