Who is going to host Eurovision 2020? That’s the question that’s got everyone in the Netherlands talking. We recently released a poll asking you to pick your favourites from our star-studded list of budding Eurovision hosts. The poll didn’t just catch your attention, but also the attention of some of the biggest Dutch names out there.
Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten — also known as the red priestess Melisandre — was among the very first Dutch celebs to take notice of the poll. The world famous Dutch actress seemed to think the idea was rather amusing, judging from her reaction on Twitter.

She also shared the post on Instagram, adding a bright green GIF of the words “haha ok” in motion. We stan a queen who engages with her fans.
Nikkie de Jager, who counts more than 12 million subscribers on her YouTube channel NikkieTutorials, gave the poll plenty of love — sprinkling it with love hearts and glitter emoji. A long term Eurovision fan, the beauty vlogger still dreams of hosting the show in Rotterdam.

Their fans have come out in force to vote in our poll. As a result, NikkieTutorials is currently the second most popular option, while Carice ranks fourth (as of 9:00 CET of 26 October).
But who’s the leader? That would be writer Özcan Akyol. The creative spirit from the provincial town of Deventer informed his fans that he did not want to be involved in Eurovision, but he was really keen on winning the poll and asked his followers to vote. So far this action seems to have worked!

Other stars doing well in the poll are public favourites Chantal Janzen and Eva Jinek. The two RTL stars were long suspected to be out of the running as commercial broadcasters usually prevent their employees from getting involved in programmes from the public broadcaster. But RTL programme director Peter van der Vorst revealed in a broadcast of De Wereld Draait Door that he will not stop his presenters from hosting Eurovision 2020.
After Özcan, Herman van der Zandt is the most voted for man on the list. The NOS presenter was rumoured to have been involved in initial talks with the host broadcasters to present Eurovision.
Actor Michiel Huisman has emerged as another rumoured host recently. That’s after RTL Boulevard‘s Aran Bade pointed out that he had heard more and more whispers mentioning the actor’s name. Although not included in our poll, the Orphan Black star has frequently been mentioned by many of our readers on social media.
Executive Producer Sietse Bakker recently said the broadcaster is aiming to haver three hosts, though the number isn’t set in stone. NPO has a long list of candidates to choose from, so we’re confident they’ll deliver a good mix of personalities.

I’ve heard will be a prequel GoT, and Melisandre is literally the only character that can be kept, because she is very old, or immortal. I don’t know, but probably she has an offer for that. Still, she shouldn’t say “Haha”, So silly from a star who should have known better how to deal with questions.
Nikkie could be a good option because she has a large fan base that she could introduce to ESC. She’s a fan and clearly wants to do it. I think she’d do a good job. Maybe she’d be in the green room? She’d be really funny interacting with the contestants. She could do Eurovision inspired makeup tutorials on her channel to inspire hype for the event.
She’s done it before. She had a make up tutorial with Elena Foureira prior to the song contest in 2018

Nikkie is an amazing and genuinely funny person so I would love to see her as a host! 🙂 She would be an amazing person to host the contest as she would bring an enthusiastic vibe to the evenings 😀
We got to watch put next year for the Dutch Directness. Don’t think for one minute that it is rudeness or looking down on anything. The Dutch don’t dress up their words but you can be sure they got your back at all times.
I think Nikkie is quite suitable for the green room and something like pre recorded sketches/videos about the Netherlands while we’re waiting on the televote.
Yeah I hope they choose a host who really wants it… So I dont mind Nikki hosting since she expressed the biggest desire out of all, and who knows maybe she would do a good job..
