North Macedonia in Junior Eurovision 2019: Mila Moskov “Fire”
After a call for submissions during the summer, North Macedonia internally selected both its artist and song. And Mila Moskov was the lucky singer chosen to represent the country for its 15th Junior Eurovision appearance.
The 14-year-old comes from Prilep, North Macedonia’s fourth-largest city. Her music career started at her local music school when she was just six. By the time she hits the stage in Gliwice she’ll have already participated in various state festivals such as Mel Fest Prilep and Ezerski Biseri.
When Mila isn’t singing solo, she lends her vocals to a choir called Little Angels which has performed across the country for children with special needs.
Speaking to junioreurovision.tv, Mila reveals that she’s very excited to fly to Poland: I hope to have fun and make a lot of lifelong friendships. Yes, winning would be a great bonus, but if I manage to stay happy with gained friendships, that feels like winning already. I really look forward to meeting the other kids.”
What do the “Fire” lyrics mean?
While it seems that the lyrics for most of the Junior Eurovision 2019 entries were influenced by the climate change movement, North Macedonia reminds us what the contest is really about – sharing a love for music.
I’m like a fire! I’m like a fire!
The music is my passion / It’s my life
And while the music is there to create a universal language that we all understand, no matter our skin colour or where we live. It is important that every human being follows their dreams and desires and, to use Eurovision terminology, lets no one extinguish their fuego.
It’s easy, if you believe in yourself
it’s easy
There’s no “no”,
nothing to break these dreams
You can do anything
“Fire” serves as a nice inspirational track that is applicable for both kids and adults alike. And while the verses showcase Moskov’s soft and breathy vocals, the chorus displays a rawness in her voice.
The music video sees Mila at a library combing through rows of old books before picking a special tome with a key inside. The book gives her the power to create music. What happens to the book once it reach the clouds we don’t know, but it gives us lots of Harry Potter vibes and we approve.
The song dropped on 15 October, making it the last JESC 2019 entry to be released.

Macedonian text
Сè почнува од еден сон
сè, од овде па до небото
и не мора да кажам ни збор
го слушам само срцето
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
The music,it’s my passion,it’s my life
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
Can you feel me now?
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
The music,it’s my passion,it’s my life
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
Can you feel me now?
Гледај во очи имам жар
можам да полетам
Правила нема, правила нема
Ќе сонувам
English translation
Everything starts with one dream
Everything, from here to the sky
I don’t have to say a word
I Just listen to this heart of mine
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
The music,it’s my passion,it’s my life
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
When you believe
Look in the eyes I have the embers
I can flight
There are no rules, no rules
I’ll dream
It’s easy, if you believe in yourself
it’s easy
There’s no “no”,
nothing to break these dreams
You can do anything
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
The music,it’s my passion,it’s my life
I’m like a fire, I’m like a fire
Can you feel me now?
Look in the eyes I have the embers
I can flight
There are no rules, no rules
I’ll dream
It’s easily one of the best songs this year. Love the chorus, the mood of the song… It’s gives me Warrior (Malta) vibes. If there’s justice this will place in this year’s top 5.
its so good, would have been great for the esc .
Amazing!
I want to vote for it 🙂
For me this is the biggest grower of the year. It started middle-of-the-group but is now fighting with Kazakhstan for #1 in my ranking. The passion in this song is INTENSE, and it radiates through all of the elements. The melody is beautiful, and there is an “archaic” aspect to this that is hard to put my finger on, but it is reflected in the video as well. My only concern has to do with the staging. Something makes me think they’ll go for a dark and minimalist aesthetic, which may be fitting for the song but might not be… Read more »
Severely underrated by the fandom. This is by far my favourite song this year in JESC. People should by ranking this more highly.
I like the song a lot but the English lyrics in the chorus are pretty brutal.
Will probably end up finishing 12th again.
“While it seems that the lyrics for most of the Junior Eurovision 2019 entries were influenced by the climate change movement…”
Five or maybe six entries is not most.
She got a fire a yeah yeah yeah – Fuegooo
Same results like Eleni had ? Fingers crossed
That is SO good. It could be a song for Adult ESC.
My favourite song this year and could place TOP5, could maybe fight for victory with France, Spain and Poland
this is an improvement from the past few years, but once again, i’m afraid macedonia won’t stand out
North Macedonia’s entries have lately been excellent. From Tamara Todevska to Mila Moskov, all I can say is that keep on going North Macedonia! About Mila’s song: I really like her voice and the traditional sounds that the song has. Her voice almost sounds like Sia’s. I feel like North Macedonia will be in Top 10 for sure if they don’t screw up the staging.
Ljupka Gordan is the stage director, and she did the staging for ‘Doma’ last year, which I thought was excellent (and I know that many others felt this way as well), so I don’t think we have to worry about North Macedonia experiencing the poor staging woes of recent years. 🙂
Last year’s staging wasn’t bad but it wasn’t very age appropriate, and flashing out the words “sadness, lonelyness, fear, etc” wasn’t a smart choice, that’s not what people watch junior eurovision for.
