The rumoured acts for Melodifestivalen 2020 continue to roll in. And this time there’s a big name. Eurovision 2011 star Eric Saade is reportedly being chased by broadcaster SVT. While teen pop star Suzi P and Swedish rapper Albin Johnsén have reportedly confirmed for 2020.

Eric Saade

Aftonbladet reports that SVT is very keen for Eric Saade to make his fourth appearance at Melodifestivalen. If Eric were to say ja, the newspaper notes that a big issue would be the language of his song. Most recently, Eric has released songs in Swedish, including his recent hit “Postcard”.  However, Aftonbladet’s source says that Eric is aware that a song with English lyrics would be a “smarter choice” for Eurovision.

Eric first competed at Melodifestivalen 2010, where his upbeat pop track “Manboy” placed third. He returned the following year and won with the similarly popalicious “Popular”. It went on to place third at Eurovision 2011. Eric made his third Mello appearance in 2015. His relationship revenge song “Sting” placed fifth in the grand final.

Albin Johnsén

Albin Johnsén is reportedly ready to make his second Melodifestivalen appearance. The Swedish rapper had a No.1 hit in 2014 with the song “Din soldat”. He made his Melodifestivalen debut in 2016, where he performed “Rik” with Mattias Andréasson. The song was eliminated in andra chansen.

In the past Albin has worked with singers, however it is not known if he will enter Melodifestivalen in partnership with a vocalist or solo.

Suzi P

Sixteen-year-old Suzi P had released a number of singles this year, including “Shunon”. Suzi caused a dramatic moment in August when she performed the song on the children’s programme Sommarlovsmorgon. The song scandalised some audience members with the lyrical mentions of drugs and crime.

According to Aftonbladet’s source, Suzi P is “exactly the kind of artist that SVT wants to bring in to rejuvenate. She is a strong and tough young girl who raps.”

Albin and Suzi P will be joined at Melodifestivalen 2020 by The Mamas, Victor Crone, Hanna Ferm, Jakob Karlberg and P4 Nästa wildcard winner Amanda Aasa. Eric Saade joins Carola on the list of acts being chased by the broadcaster.

SVT is expected to reveal the lucky 28 competing acts of Melodifestivalen 2020 sometime in November.

What do you think? Do you want to see Eric Saade back at Melodifestivalen? Who else would you like to see in the 2020 lineup? Tell us your thoughts below!

I am afraid that the kid who sang about love and being alone in bed would win this year, which is totally creepy

Is “Sting” a relationship revenge song? I thought it was about two guys competing for a girl.

Anyway, I’d like to see him back. There’ll be less pressure than 2015 when he thought he was a contender for the win. Five years later, he’ll probably be happy with getting a hit song out of it. His career seems to be kinda drifting…so from his perspective, what’s he got to lose? Nothing.

Nothing to lose indeed. After “Sting”, any song will sound good.

His career is actually stronger than ever. Though I dont think Swedish songs fit him. English is more his language

No, but he constantly releases songs. Albums are rare, fewer and fewer releases proper albums. They just prefer songs

I dig it. I always find Eric to be better in English than Swedish, it fits the songs better. Hopeful it’s another pop banger

Not to forget “Wild Child”. As far as I am concerned, she should have been sent all three times instead of what won.

Eric Saade would officially elevate what so far has been a pretty bland Melfest selection

He’s aging really well. I’d like to see him in the competition. His voice was never good anyway, so no worries there.

Jonas

He’s 29, not 59. Let’s see how he ages when he’s 40.

I have seen 29-year-olds who are not aging well. Aging is not necessarily being old, but also simply growing older. But of course, you once again just WANT to misunderstand my comment, it appears to me. I never implied he was old.

Yes, I wanted to misunderstand your comment, of course. Or maybe it’s your job to properly communicate what you want to say – the burden is not on the reader. I don’t often hear talk of people in their 20s ageing really well, but sure. It seems to me that once again you want to be confrontational when I’m just conversing. It’s not that big of a deal?

First up, this picture of Eric Saade looked like ByeAlex in his nerdy years.

Second, 2500+ submissions and still chasing artist?

Wouldn’t there be a probability of 25-50 great entries out of those 2500? I mean, since >50% of last year’s acts have taken part for at least once, I guess this article just tells how SVT actually selects.

That makes sense, thanks Robyn! Although I’m still raising my eyebrow since these ‘big’ artists are usually returnees and that makes the whole selection look a little bit nepotic (although other broadcasters might do the same but in a smaller scale). Hence, my initial comment.

Please Eric saade is a bad idea. I’ve never actually watched melodifestvalen so I don’t know his other songs but popular’s lyrics and melody in general ruined the song for me and it was 33rd in my top 43 in 2011
