Over the past few weeks, a number of acts have been rumoured for Melodifestivalen 2020. But in less than a week, there will be no more speculation. Broadcaster SVT has confirmed that the Melfest 2020 lineup will be announced on Tuesday 26 November.

The broadcaster confirmed the date today in a press release. The announcement will be made at a special event hosted by SVT.

Traditionally the acts are presented in the semi-final groups they will compete in. This can offer clues as to who the strongest acts may be. Though other factors are considered when allocating semi-finals, including song genres and the type of performers.

Only one confirmed act for Mello 2020 is known so far. Amanda Aasa gained entry after she won the Melfest wildcard as part of the P4 Nästa radio song competition in August. She will enter Melodifestivalen with a different song to her Nästa entry.

But there have been plenty of rumoured acts to emerge over the past few weeks, thanks to investigative reporting from Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

Rumoured for 2020 are returning Eurovision stars Robin Bengtsson, Anna Bergendahl, Victor Crone and The Mamas. As well, returning to Melodifestivalen is said to be Renaida, Ellen Benediktson, Simon Peyron, Thorsten Flinck, Linda Bengtzing, Frida Öhrn, Anis don Demina, Albin and Hanna Ferm.

Making their Mello debut will reportedly be OVÖ, Drängarna, Paul Rey, Suzi P and Jakob Karlberg. Eric Saade and Carola are two acts said to still be being chased by the broadcaster.

Melodifestivalen 2020: What we know so far

Back in August, SVT announced the dates and venues for Melodifestivalen 2020. The iconic tour will kick off with semi-final one in Linköping on 1 February, semi two in Gothenburg on 8 February, semi-final three in Luleå on 15 February, and the fourth semi-final will be held in Malmö on 22 February.

The andra chansen round will be held in Eskilstuna on 29 February, while the grand final — as always — will be held at Friends Arena in Stockholm on March 7th.

SVT has also confirmed the hosts of Melodifestivalen 2020. Former Alcazar singer Lina Hedlund, jazz/pop singer Linnea Henriksson and comedian David Sundin will host the shows.

The lineup of Melodifestivalen 2020 will be announced on Tuesday 26 November at 12:00 CET. The event will be live-streamed by SVT on the Melodifestivalen Instagram account. Wiwibloggs will bring you full coverage from the event.

What do you think? Who else would you like to see on the Melodifestivalen 2020 lineup? Tell us your thoughts below!

Sorry for all the Jon Henrik fans out there, but I am 100% sure we won’t see Jon Henrik this year.

I am also convinced that his new release was sent in to Melfest but got rejected.

The song naturally ends right at the 3 minute mark only for the chorus to be repeated once again for 45 seconds, which sounds unnecessary and forced. I honestly see that added 45 seconds as a cover up to try to make it seems like it wasn’t meant for Melfest.

Mariette, Lisa Ajax, Ellen Benedikson, Ace Wilder… You have only ONE JOB, Sweden: Choose a woman! We are tired of male acts with generic songs! All I want is to see a fresh swedish entry, performed by a woman. This should be really possible

Not super related, but incredibly exciting: according to the Voix of Euro (who I consider pretty reliable on such things), the Andorran government has confirmed that they’re working on funding a return to the contest. The site said “after a ten-year absence,” which could possibly mean Andorra’s gonna be making a late appearance as country #42, but RTVA hasn’t said anything yet and they could be more working towards 2021. Still, holy crap, what if? Andorra had unfinished business to take care of. There’s a ton of great Catalan music out there, but they joined the contest at the worst… Read more »

I know that people are going to be annoyed by me asking this but has anyone heard anything about Mariette coming back? I know that some people are tired of her trying but I would love to see her competing again 🙂
