Last year, a star was born at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Roksana Węgiel — aka “Roxie” — brought home the Junior Eurovision crown for Poland for the first time.

Since then, her stock has grown so much that she won the MTV EMA title for best Polish Artist. Now she has hit us with not just one but three new tracks. “Potrafisz”, “Half of My Heart” and “MVP” — the last of which is the interval song for this year’s contest in Gliwice. With Junior Eurovision taking place on Sunday, it’s the perfect time to check out what our current champion has been up to.

New Music from Roksana Węgiel / Roxie

“Potrafisz” (You Can)

Sung completely in Polish “Potrafisz” is the song we all need from time to time. It’s upbeat pop full of positivity and hope, encouraging us all to pull ourselves together, forget the past, ignore negative thoughts and never say that something is impossible.

Choć sił brakuje
Złe myśli atakują
Nie mów, że nie da się tak
Weź się w garść – wiem, że potrafisz

Translation:
Though there’s not enough power,

evil thoughts attack,
don’t say that it’s impossible.
Pull yourself together. I know that you can.

In an age of social media — where everything is filtered and people frequently mask their true selves — Roxie tells it how it is and asks us to embrace and celebrate who we are and what we have.

Już nie mów, że nie da się tak
Celebrować swój najlepszy czas
Nic nie udawaj
Bądź sobą i bierz – wszystko co dobre

Translation:
Stop saying that it’s impossible
to celebrate your best time.
Don’t fake anything.
Be yourself and take all that’s good.

“Half of My Heart”

Sometimes someone comes into our lives and we just don’t know what has hit us. This is the case with Roxie’s ballad with a beat “Half of my Heart”. Sung completely in English, Roxie is battling with her heart when someone special arrives in her life. Questioning everything, the Polish champ asks herself why this person has taken hold of her heart.

I’ve never really met
Never really met somebody like you
Is it just the way you talk
Or am I cursed with what I choose
It’s not about the compliments
You’re putting my way lately

It’s something that you’re doing baby
That gets me off my feet
I blame myself
Cause there’s somebody else I’m feeling
Half of my heart

“MVP”

If there’s a song that proves this girl has global star quality – this is it. An Ariana Grande style number with an international sound, “MVP” has already smashed one million views on YouTube and it’s not hard to see why. Roxie oozes confidence in “MVP” — nothing fazes her. If Roxie wants you, she will let you know, otherwise she is just going to crack on with no worries and keeping it real. You can call her names but this girl is just ice cool and she ain’t gonna be somebody else.

I am out playing in the field
I don’t need something real
But I always keep it real for myself for myself
You already know the deal yeah
So call me crazy call me Heartless
I ain’t got to be somebody else somebody else
I know plenty of guys who do this
I’m not tryna be somebody else somebody else

Roxie does not need anyone but herself to be happy. She knows the value of self-worth and teaches us all to appreciate yourself so you can feel free and be your own MVP.
Roxie is wise beyond her years at only the age of 14 – This girl is a star!

I am so free, yeah
I am so feeling me
I am so feeling me
MVP

Its her managres and parents fault if anything. She’s getting spoiled so much that it’s not even funny and every slightest form of critique is instantly called hate, so that she feels like she can do no wrong.

There’s one situation when her driver got ticket from police for speeding between 2 of her concerts (she was late or something) and later in interview she said it’s policeman’s fault because he should be more understanding. Like you know, her concert is more important than general safety on the road.

I’d like to ask people who downvoted it, which part of this post is not true? I’m not bashing Roxie because she’s still a kid, but people who use her for profit if anything

Apparently there is a lot of buzz in Poland since it was the first time that a polish act won in a eurovision event but i dont think that pressure is a good thing for her. She is still a child….

Remind me -how old is she?
Cause’ she looks and acts and sings about stuff like she was in her early 20ties or something…

Disgusting.

That’s our modern world. Most of the girls at her age wear make up and provocative clothes. They listen to sh*t music, watch stupid tv shows like Kardashians and their biggest idols are some idiots influencers from Instagram. That’s the result. But adults are also culprits. They want to make her a big pop star and songs like that sell best.

Everybody expects from her to became first Polish International star. But I’m afraid that sooner or later she will end up like other young stars, with depression and addicted yo drugs, because pressure from her manager and fans will be to much.

mess i hope not ! she’s only releasing music in polish so i don’t think her label is aiming at making her go international

Maybe not this, or next year but when she’s 16 or 17 definately. Otherwise they would stick only to Polish language in her songs. And mr Kurski (the president of TVP) is trying to make her a puppet of TVP. He always says how Roxie is talented and he puts her in every event TVP is taking part of.

She’s 14. These days a lot of teenage girls dress and act too old for their age. ZENA’s dress she wore at the orange carpet during the opening ceremony was also too revealing for a 16-year-old imho. Adults are even encouraging some of them to dress and act like that, like 13-year-old influencer Danielle Cohn who gets pressured by her mother to act and dress in a way that is completely inappropriate for a 13-year-old child.

How was that too revealing for a 16 year old though. The girl is 16, thats the age of consent in most countries and at that point she can definitely make her own decisions. She literally has tatoos.

Im not saying that wearing revealing clothes is a good thing, but she should be able to make her own decisions at that age.

Are you trying to suggest that a 16-year-old is an adult capable of making well-informed, responsible decisions? To me, a teenager is still a child in so many ways, no matter what the age of consent is.

P.S. Current neuroscience tells us that the human brain matures until the mid 20s. So a teen may look mature on the outside, but they still have a long way to cover before they become fully mature inside. They need guidance and support from trusted adults. Especially in the area of problem-solving and decision-making.
