Things have been quiet around Austrian broadcaster ORF’s internal selection process for Eurovision 2020. All we know for sure is that German songstress Aly Ryan won’t be representing Austria. But now speculation has emerged suggesting that ORF has shortlisted three candidates — and may even have selected one of them.

The speculation starts from a post made two and a half weeks ago by the Austrian music production studio IB Music & Production.

After a short break, we're returning with some innovations. There have been a lot of positive things going on over the…

In the post, they write about their work with the Austrian singer-songwriter Thea Devy. As well as working with Thea on her new album, IB Music & Production also notes that Thea “was selected among the top 3 and is in discussion to represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest.”

Around the same time, Thea Devy posted a photo to her Instagram account which added to the speculation. The photo showed Thea hard at work in a recording studio. Among the hashtags used in the photo was #Eurovision and #ESC, however #Eurovision has since been removed.

Broadcaster ORF has not confirmed any details about their selection process for Eurovision 2020, nor has Thea Devy commented on matters herself.

Who is Thea Devy?

Thea is an upcoming singer-songwriter who is based in Vienna. In her official bio, she writes that music “has been my biggest passion from an early age on and now it is a part of my life more than ever before.”

She got started to get serious in 2017 when she began working with a producer and wrote her first song.

In early 2018, Thea released her debut single “Waiting For”, which she followed up with “Collide” and the seasonal song “What Christmas is For”.

Has Austria already decided their act for Eurovision 2020?

But are things moving even faster? Last week Austrian fan site Austrovision published an Instagram post saying that ORF had since selected their act for Rotterdam.

They claimed that “Internal sources confirmed to Austrovision that broadcaster ORF has made the decision about the Austrian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Due to a ban on information, the announcement will still take a while.”

Again, broadcaster ORF has not made any comment on its selection process for Eurovision 2020.

In recent years, ORF has announced their internally selected act in December or January. Last year, Paenda was revealed on 29 January, while Cesár Sampson was confirmed earlier, on 5 December.

What do you think? Would you like to see Thea Devy competing in Rotterdam? What sort of song should Austria send to Eurovision 2020? Tell us your thoughts below.

no, this girl won’t represent Austria in rotterdam, too similar to Paenda and i’m pretty sure Austria wants to steer clear from that given they had a disastrous result with that
