Italy’s Sanremo Festival has been running for almost 70 years. Over the last few years, globally known artists like Sting, Imagine Dragons and Cat Stevens have performed as guests (not competitors) at the festival. And now a very familiar name is about to join this esteemed list. Stefani Germanotta, who you may know as Lady Gaga, has reportedly booked her spot as a guest act, according Il Messaggero.

Will Lady Gaga perform at Sanremo 2020?

Amadeus, the director of this year’s Sanremo festival, has reportedly wanted the American pop star to perform for years. The conductor is of Sicilian origin, just like Lady Gaga herself, which adds meaning to the story. But the news isn’t just that Lady Gaga was approached. According to the Il Messaggero report, the star has already signed a contract. We should note this is a highly respected newspaper.

The American pop star has an open window in her schedule between December 2019 and April 2020. This makes getting Gaga to perform at the February festival easier. Also considered for the guest star role, according to Il Messaggero, is Lebanese-English singer MIKA. Since the singer-songwriter’s tour will stop in Italy anyway that week, it seems very possible. MIKA performed in Festival Sanremo three years ago, so he understands it’s beauty and power.

As Italian broadcaster RAI announced earlier this year, Sanremo 2020 will select the Italian entrant for Eurovision. So the news isn’t only exciting for Italian pop fans, but for all Eurovision fans. Before said announcement, fans had to wait – sometimes for a few days – to learn if the winner of the festival will go to ESC. For this reason, many Eurovision fans passed on the festival, seeing as it’s technically not a national selection. This year, the Eurovision bubble will be more attentive, and if the Gaga-related news is true, we’re in for a treat.

Would you like to see Lady Gaga embrace her roots and perform in the Italian selection? Do you think it’s realistic? Let us know what you think in the comments section!

Usually the Italian songs are better than Gaga’s. She would lower the standard.

“Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.” – me as soon as I heard the Dutch song

Yaas! We need Monster Mama on stage. At least for interval act.

Mika seems more logical, he literally wrote a song called San Remo this year

It is spelled Sanremo (one word) and not San Remo.

that’d be such an honor for us to host her and witness her impeccable singing of whatever fantastic songs from her amazing discography she wants to sing. i’ve been on godga’s side since her debut, and she never disappointed me as an artist and as a singer. she has talent, acclaim, beauty, success, but also longevity, star quality and legend status. in conclusion, yes gaga yes sanremo <3

I appreciate her contribution to LGBT, but I don’t like her songs. I hope she won’t come

Well, I watch Sanremo for my own love to Italian music in general, so, her presence or not is not a big issue for me. Give me Gabbani, Moro, Ferro or Annalisa, and I’ll be happy.
