For many, the year is divided between two awesome festivities called Eurovision and Christmas. And Finland’s Eurovision 2018 singer Saara Aalto has now combined them together by releasing her new Christmas EP Fairytale.

If that wasn’t enough, the Finnish wonder woman also called in some help from Australian superstar Kylie Minoque to write the song “Every Christmas Day”.

The Fairytale EP consists of six songs, including the previous single “Starry Skies”.

The first song on the record, “Every Christmas Day”, has been written by none other than Kylie Minogue. Speaking on British talk show Lorraine, Saara reveals how the song came about. After performing with Kylie at the X Factor UK final in 2016. After getting to know Kylie’s music producer Steve Anderson, Saara was eventually introduced to “Every Christmas Day” and asked to record a version of it.

Kylie Minogue isn’t the only star to feature on Saara’s new EP. Finnish rock singer Michael Monroe also features on a rendition of the classic Christmas hit “Fairytale of New York”, originally sung by The Pogues.

Other tracks on the EP include “Christmas Without You”, “Can I Keep The Pictures” and the title song of Disney movie Frozen, “Let It Go”.

Saara Aalto on lesbian representation in TV

In her interview with Lorraine, Saara notes that “Christmas Without You” was written together with her fiancee Meri Sopanen. She also chats about “Let It Go” and how the song follows her almost everywhere – Saara performed it on the first live show of X Factor UK and has previously sung the song in 15 different languages (she has was also the voice of Anna for the Finnish-language version of Frozen and Frozen 2).

Moving on from the EP, Saara also talks about the importance of lesbian representation on TV and being a role model. The Eurovision alum notes that she would love to take part in BBC dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing and dance with a female partner. This idea is based on news that Ian Watkins from Steps will be taking part in ice-skating show Dancing On Ice with a same sex male partner in the new year.

The EP and new single closes off a busy year for Saara. At the start of the year she finished third on the latest series of Dancing on Ice. During the summer, her song “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching” was selected as the official song for Pride In London 2019.

And recently, the “Monsters” singer released the new album Fairytale: Joulun Taikaa (Fairytale: Christmas Magic), which features a number of English- and Finnish-language songs.
