lanberry

Poland have won back-to-back Junior Eurovision Song Contest titles. One common thread in both their wins was the presence of singer-songwriter Lanberry, who co-wrote the winning songs “Anyone I Want to Be” and “Superhero”. A natural question arises: would the 32-year-old be willing to step to the mic and represent her country at Eurovision? Well she’s now told Polish web site Eurowizja.org that she’s open to the idea.

Shortly after the Junior Eurovision 2019 final, the web site put the question to her. She responded: “When it comes to representing Poland at Eurovision, I can definitely say one thing: I don’t say no. However, I do not know this year, but I will think about it.”

Lanberry is, of course, no stranger to Eurovision. In 2017 she entered Krajowe Eliminacje — the Polish National Final — with her song “Only Human”. It was the English translated version of her Polish Top 10 song “Piątek”.

The entry faced a lot of controversy. Eurovision rules state that no songs can be released prior to September 1 of the year before the contest. Lanberry’s participation raised a few eyebrows as the original version of “Piątek” had been released that August. Eventually, it was decided that she could still compete, but the song only managed sixth place.

Who is Polish singer Lanberry?

Lanberry — neé Małgorzata Uściłowska — started her music career posting covers of popular songs on Youtube. In 2013 she took part in season three of The Voice Poland, but didn’t pass the blind auditions. Lanberry fared much better when she entered season 4 of X-Factor Poland, managing to make it through to Judges Houses. She eventually fell at that hurdle. Though the X-Factor title wasn’t meant to be, after the show she signed with Universal Music Poland and gained her first number one in 2017 with “Gotowi na wszystko” (Ready for anything).

Lanberry then turned her skills to writing songs for Junior Eurovision. She co-wrote Poland’s Junior Eurovision 2018 winning song “Anyone I Want to Be” sung by Roksana Węgiel. And she wasn’t finished there. Just a year later Lanberry succeeded once again in the competition, co-penning Poland’s second Junior Eurovision winner in two years with “Superhero”  sung by Viki Gabor.

Lanberry is on a roll and she certainly knows how to write a killer Eurovision track!

Many Polish fans believe Lanberry has sealed her place in the Eurovision spotlight and she is destined to bring home the Eurovision crown for Poland for the first time.

Of course, one could argue that while Lanberry did co-write the lyrics to the two winning Junior Eurovision songs, she had no part in the creation of the music, nor did she sing. In that sense her biggest skill may well be writing lyrics and collaborating with winning songwriters. She did co-write two songs for Eurovision in 2018 — “Nie chcę Ciebie mniej” and”Błysk”, which placed sixth and seventh respectively in the Polish National Final.

Do you think Lanberry should sing for Poland next year in Rotterdam? If not her then who is your first choice? Tell us in the comments section below.

I remember her from 2017 Polish NF. I kinda liked “Only Human”, but it isn’t something out of the box. Also, both “Anyone I Want To Be” and “Superhero” are more of the same. If they were in the adult contest, both songs would have been hyped by some eurofans, but then they would have failed in qualifying for the Grand Final. They really didn’t deserve to win the Junior. Though that’s another topic.

So, if you ask me, she could represent Poland but with a better song.

Poland proved that they can host a fantastic contest themselves. I really want them to win the adult contest, the jesc production was amazing

Ok, first the song, then the name of the performer.
How come people don’t get it after all those years.

Those are not the times when a name is a guarantee of quality and success.
(#Sergey #Carola #DanaInt. #Kylie #MelC #Helena
#Eleni #Dima #Doda #Cleo #EdytaGórniak… )

Find a good song and then think who could sing it and present it on stage the best possible way (not excluding the composers themselves ofc)

Why does this comment get downvotes? He’s right. It’s SONG contest, right?

It’s 4 minutes long, thus it doesn’t meet the requirements.

Plenty of Eurovision songs originated from longer versions.

Why sing when she can write the polish song for 2020? If Poland won JESC twice because of her than I’m pretty sure they can win ESC too.

You do know they can’t vote for themselves at Eurovision, right?

she will win 3 times to. We all know that Poland has the BIGGEST majority of voters and audience in JESC. Its only the polish who say its false. EBU says its true and the rest of the world know its true. So she will never stop winning with songs she does. 7 million viewers dont lie.

no. not angry. Polands audience is twice as big that watches then all the others together. so the online is really stupid when poland vote for themselfes and win every year. dont you?

If other countries don’t want Poland to win again, they can rather stop whining and send THE BEST SONG of the contest, like Poland did this year. Superhero was the most contemporary and catchy song of the contest, and it would have won no matter which country sent it. And I like the idea of online voting, even if it means the country with the highest viewership winning the whole thing. The idea is to ‘please as many people as possible’ with the winning song. If the Poles make up the majority of viewers, it’s only logical to please them… Read more »

Those lyrics hardly speak in favor of its author in terms of creativity. Just saying.

that year Poland didnt had the majority in the audience viewers. So no. NOW they do. This and last year they are bigger then any other so 6 wins will come. I pray EBU will end the online voting before 2020. This is facts by EBU so its 100% true Poland have taken over JESC now.

i don’t see the appeal in her. those two jesc songs are mediocre, and her nf song from 2017 was forgettable. but i guess she’s popular among poles ?

What’s with this photo? :O Nah, I’m not big fan of her songs. JESC songs you mentioned have great beat, rhythm, etc. Everything but lyrics. Lyrics are meh in english and bad in Polish. For me it’s “worse version of Margaret”. But hey, at least she’s better than Golec brothers xd Check out Dawid Podsiad?o, BOVSKA, Sylwia Grzeszczak, Ania D?browska, Brodka, Rosalie./Stendek, Natalia Nykiel, LemON and bunch of other people i cant remember now. Not that they would easily want to take part in ESC, especially after what happened to Margaret in 2016. Maybe BOVSKA and Rosalie./Stendek but still doubt… Read more »

I don’t get why so many fans mention BOVSKA. She had one great song and that’s sorta it. Now as you’ve said, most of these artists are unreachable (David would definitely do well at Eurovision, but he’s too big of a star already, and thus doesn’t really have any reason to compete). Realistically speaking I think they’ll either choose someone from the Opole Festival (cough, Ania Karwan, cough) or the Voice of Poland (maybe Alicja Szemplinska?). The other name that has been thrown around lately is Ralph Kaminski, and I think he’s pretty good as well. Well, you never know… Read more »

One great song is still better than bunch of meh songs. It says that she’s capable of delivering something really good. Unlike Lanberry. I believe Ania Karwan said she won’t do ESC. I’m affraid they will pick Marcin Sojka last minute.

I believe Sojka said something similar, like “personally, I don’t want to go, but if TVP tells me to do that, I won’t refuse”. And well, if an artist didn’t come up with a song close to being on par with his or hers debut single during 4.5 years, there’s a slight chance that she or he is just a one-hit wonder.

Her song “Zagadka” is so good and I’d be happy to see her at Eurovision with a song like it. Overall I like most of her songs, but she should definitely stick to Polish as her songs in English don’t sound the best.

I didn’t like her song in 2017.
Don’t think she’s done enough to be an internal selection considering the quality of other artists that Poland haven’t sent yet. Contributing to some lyrics doesn’t change that.
