In early December we got a list of acts who won’t compete in Eurovizijos Atranka 2020 — Lithuania’s national selection for Eurovision. However, one big name act has just confirmed her participation — Moniqué.

Moniqué in Lithuania’s Eurovizijos Atranka 2020

During a Facebook livestream by broadcaster LRT on 17 December, the pop diva with a massive following says that Eurovision is about more than just her desire to go there: “I want to represent my country.”

In the interview, Moniqué revealed that her entry is written by Vytautas Bikus. He composed Ieva Zasimauskaitė’s “When We’re Old”, which placed 12th at Eurovision 2018.

According to the prolific hitmaker, it’s a song about being in a state of being rather than living. Fans will probably hear the song for the first time during the preselection. But we already know the title — “Make Me Human”. And it’s going to be a power ballad.

Who is Moniqué?

Monika Pundziūtė first rose to the fame when she auditioned for the Lithuanian X Factor in 2015. Her unique voice and strong performances impressed everyone from the fans to the judges and she ultimately won the show. She went from strength to strength, signing with Sony Music and changing her stage name to Moniqué.

The starlet has already released two albums and won Female Singer of the Year at Lithuania’s annual M.A.M.A. music awards. On 10 December, she dropped the music video for her new song “Another Mistake,” which she recorded with singer and producer Mark Les. She’ll soon take her seat as a coach on the new season of The Voice Lithuania.

Eurovision fans have wanted to see Moniqué represent Lithuania at Eurovision for a long time and she even landed on wiwibloggs’ Wednesday Wishlist in 2017. And now the wait could soon be over! Surely her reputation and talent will make her one to reckon with.

Other confirmed Eurovizijos Atranka 2020 acts

Moniqué isn’t the only name to confirm participation in the upcoming season of Eurovizijos Atranka. Some of the other acts vying to represent Lithuania in Rotterdam include:

  • THE ROOP — They last competed in Lithuania’s national selection in 2018, making it all the way to the grand final where they placed third.
  • Rūta Loop — She released her debut LP this year and will try her luck in the preselection for a second time.
  • Tiramisu — The avant-garde group will sing “Release”.

Doesn’t really matter who they’ll choose, their diaspora almost always pushes them to televote top10 in the SF… I already feel bad for a country who comes 11th in their semi and fails to qualify simply because Lithuania has such a huge diaspora…

they can have all the diaspora they want but if the song isn’t good enough they won’t qualify as proven by 2017 n 2019. i mean… in 2019 they had ireland, the uk, norway, latvia n sweden in the same semi n still FAILED !

Ieva would have not qualified without Lithuanian diaspora. She would have been 15th in the semi. They almost qualified in 2014 and 2019, they came 11th

“would have not qualified”, “would have been”… man, stop speculating complete BS. If Lithuania has such a powerful diaspora, why are their results so random all the time? Why their bad songs never qualify? Shouldn’t diaspora help push them through? ‘When we’re old’ was an amazing touching song that really stood out that year. That’s the magic for you.

But it’s unfair for those who come 11th in the semi. Without those 24 points (from the UK and Ireland) in 2018, Ieva would’ve been 15th and Azerbaijan would’ve qualified.
Their results vary thanks to jury. Lithuania only fails to qualify unless they’re really bad. They can qualify with very average songs, like 2018, 2011, 2013, 2009 only thanks to their diaspora and it’s UNFAIR.
I just don’t like it that countries with low living standards and thus lots of immigrants get unfairly good results. It’s not a diaspora contest.

Now you’re just being ignorant. Who offended you, snowflake? Why are not complaining about countries that have even bigger diasporas than Lithuania and still don’t qualify? Are their songs also below ‘average’? I can tell it’s not the songs you hate. You are holding an ethnic grudge.

Wtf only Russia benefits more from diaspora voting than Lithuania. Even Romania and Poland, Moldova receive less diaspora points than Lithuania .

You better enlighten yourself about living standards in Lithuania and then comment. Or I will do it for you. Lithuania’s GDP PPP per capita 34,8k (38th in the world), in comparison, UK GDP PPP per capita 45,7k (26th in the world).
Now shut your mouth. Only matter of the few years when it’ll become equal.

Nope. If you look the whole world, then obviously Lithuania isn’t among the poorest ones but I’m talking about Europe. In the EU Lithuania is one of the less wealthiest countries unfortunately. Compared to most EU countries Lithuania has relatively low living standards.
Also, you can’t determine country’s living standards just by looking at GDP per capita.
You call me ignorant but you just don’t like to hear the uncomfortable truth about your country. Well, who does actually?
P.S do you actually expect Lithuania to be as wealthy as the UK with a FEW YEARS? LOL

What exactly does the living standards have to do with Eurovision? Literally wtf. You should be calling out Balkans then. Blame them for being poor and having great results. Like that’s a scheme lol.

Can Lithuania just send her and call it a day? UNLESS the song is really boring, but I hope not.

I have no freakin’ idea who Moniqué is, but from start if it’s another boring ballad then it’s a big NO from me.. Waiting for the rest of the songs from the Lithuanian selection and their 250 long and boring heats….

If I’m correct she will make her 10th attempt to represent Lithuania, my favourite entry of hers is “Troy on Fire” which came a narrow 2nd in 2008.

I was heartbroken over Monika Marija this year too, especially how she got beat by the most dull and beige song this year!

Either of those songs (especially Light On) would’ve been better than what they went with.
