Netherlands Davina Michelle Floor Jansen Dwight Dissels Eurovision 2020

It’s the reigning champ and will host the next contest in 2020. So, it’s hardly surprising that there’s even more attention than usual being paid to the Netherlands’ Eurovision act for Rotterdam.

As we prepare to enter the new year there are three names worth mentioning. One might be in the mix — Dwight Dissels. Meanwhile, the other two — Floor Jansen and Davina Michelle — have ruled themselves out.

Who will sing for the Netherlands at Eurovision 2020?

Dwight Dissels

Some fans are wondering if Dwight Dissels will sing for the Netherlands at Eurovision 2020.

The singer recently performed next to Eurovision 2020 Edsilia Rombley at the Trouw Kerstconcert 2019. And eagle-eyed viewers picked up on a brief moment which was overlooked by many.

They were welcomed on stage with an introduction that focused on their similarities — they both rose to fame through a singing competition and played roles in The Passion.

But it’s the third similarity that’s got everyone talking — according to the concert’s host, the pair could be further tied together by Eurovision 2020. He claims that Dwight might be representing his country in Rotterdam.

Of course, Edsilia is set to host the event, having competed herself in 1998 and 2007.

Obviously, this might amount to nothing. Maybe the host knows something we don’t. Or perhaps it was simply an off the cuff remark.

Regardless, Dwight neither denied nor confirmed the assertion. If you want to watch, you can catch the comments and subsequent performance at 43:20 using this link.

But who is the Dutch singer?

Dwight took part in the seventh season of The Voice Of Holland (2016 and 2017). He blew the judges away with his blind audition. Three of the four judges, including Waylon (Eurovision 2014 and 2018), turned their chairs after his first line. Throughout the weeks Dwight was one of the favourites to win the competition. He made it all the way to the live shows but just missed out on the final.

A few months later, he performed as Jesus in The Passion, a Dutch live performance telling the story of Easter. The roles are mostly played by Dutch singers who sing several songs live.

Lately, Dwight hasn’t been in the spotlight quite so much. However, he still makes regular TV appearances.

Floor Jansen

Floor Jansen is out.

According to news site Nu.nl, Floor says she is too is busy with a new CD and a world tour with her band Nightwish. Nonetheless, she says she would consider it an honour to represent the people at Eurovision.

This will come as a disappointment to some fans after her comments last summer. Then, in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad, Jansen said that she would consider representing the Netherlands at Eurovision.

Davina Michelle

Similarly, Davina Michelle has also removed her name from contention.

Davina told newspaper AD that she does not have the time to do Eurovision due to a busy schedule. But, like Jansen, she’s adamant that it would be an honour. In fact, she even thinks the idea would be nice. Alas, time is a cruel mistress.

This appears to put to bed her ponderings from September.

Then, Davina revealed that she had neither been asked to represent the country nor did she know whether she would actually accept. Speaking on the talk show Beaushe said:

“First and foremost, I have not been asked whether I want it, so I find it difficult to say yes or no. And secondly, it will take a lot of time from me…I think that I will have to think hard when they ask me.”

What do you think of Dwight Dissels? Do you think he can do well at the Eurovision stage? Are you sad that Floor and Davina are out? Let us know in the comments below.

I think the girl from The Common lines will represent les Pays Bas (Holland) this year, if Waylon had an opportunity, why this girl should not have …

I know she looks great, but this ‘girl’ is 42 😉 She was the coach of Duncan Laurence on the Voice in 2014, she suggested him to attend Eurovision and she mentored him on the road to Eurovision (you probably saw her sitting in the green room with him?). I don’t think she would like to compete again herself, since she already has a huge career herself.

I did not know she is 42 :O she looks so young lol …
I just watched old videos back in 2014 and she told she would do it again, so who knows 🙂

Maybe one of the bands from the teen serial Spangas could reunite to represent the host country.

He can sing, but we haven’t heard a song, so difficult to judge.

Wiwibloggs I love you guys, but this article is a mistake. Dwight is not rumoured to go to eurovision. By no one.

Davina is saying she isn’t participating this year but she would like to participate in the future after she has more music out. But something about her seems like she’s holding something back. Just like OG3NE back in 2017 she could be easily lying and already be signed for 2020.

There are exactly 0 news articles in The Netherlands about Dwight Dissels & Eurovision. The only one is this one. Really wondering how this ‘news’ ended up here! But hey, he is a great singer… Please look at his Battle in The Voice Of Holland, it is one of the best in history!

I read a while ago that the selection committee want a strong contender as a host entry. So unless they already know a song for Dwight, I doubt that they want to go this route (pick a fairly unknown singer and decide the song later I mean).
And yes, Bigger is right, this is the first time I read his name in combination with eurovision. Had a quick look at the Dutch eurovision forum and the people there don’t know either where this is coming from.
