It’s getting fresh in here! And that’s because Slovenia’s RTVSLO has released revamped, studio-quality snippets of the ten songs competing in the EMA FREŠ final.
Up for grabs are two spots in the EMA 2020 final — the country’s Eurovision selection show.
EMA FREŠ 2020: Snippets
The snippets are only 30 seconds long, but we can see how far these ten acts have come from their raw demos. They now offer competitive productions.
The ten EMA FREŠ finalists are:

- Alfirev “Črno bela lika”
- Klarity “Diham”
- Marmoris “Moj pristan”
- Saška “Še kar lovim tvoj nasmeh”
- Pia Nina “Tukaj in zdaj”

- Parvani Violet “Cupid”
- Astrid in Avantgarden “Sing to Me”

This follows weeks of work and scrutiny.
In addition to the regular EMA selection, EMA FREŠ is a separate competition for young, emerging artists.
Eighteen acts competed with demos in a convoluted online duel system that started in November. The process culminates in a TV final night on January 18, where two acts will win a spot in EMA.

In mid-December, Slovenia released the names of the ten acts that were selected to go to EMA directly as well.

It is clear that Astrid in Avantgarden – „Sing to Me“ is galaxies ahead of the other songs.

If I had to choose I’d go for “Diham” or “Sing to Me” but I hope there’s something better in EMA.
I think Slovenia is gonna stay in the semi again.
Wow this is the first time ever, but I like absolutely no one from this selection… EMA better provide better songs for sure.

Personally I prefer Pia Nina, but I understand the appeal of Astrid and she’s my #2. I hope the preselected entries are better than these though, and I expect they will be since they’re all the established artists.
“Ne vem, ?e sem v redu” is nice, light-hearted pop, but somehow seems to lack personality as a song. Feels a bit like something from ten years ago. 5/10 “The Cure” sounds somehow contemporary, but too much like any other Ellie-Goulding-like song on the radio. Quite forgettable and I feel that it might struggle live. 5/10 “?rno bela lika” tries too hard to sound cute and get quite monotonous–even in a 30-second snippet. 3/10 “Diham”: A good piano ballad can always do miracles, but it depends on how it builds over three minutes. Astrid’s song has also a rap part inside so I guess it is good.. But it is, with no doubt, the best one here.
How do you know that when what everybody has are that 30 seconds snippet and the 1 minute live snippet from the first rounds??
She wrote that on her FB post and a commentator said it in one of the EMA Freš videos
Astrid in Avantgarden (cool stage name!) is the one that stands out to me. But Pia Nina sounds fresh and Younite can be interesting.
Not a great selection. Only saw potential in Pia Nina and Astrid but I think Pia Nina would do better ,unless Astrid had spectacular staging which could be the case.
sing to me is the only obvious one, for the others i need to hear the full songs bc none struck me
Stella’s song is soooooooo cute. I could wrap her up in cotton wool and keep her as a teddy bear.
No idea what she is singing about but I’m left with a warm, fuzzy feeling.

In general those snippets are very disappointing, that’s why “Sing to Me” stands out.
Honestly, none.
Apart from Pia and Astrid these songs sound like entries from a secondary school talent show. Ugh. Sia, I mean Astrid seems like a clear winner here, in my opinion.
