She made the gold final of Melodi Grand Prix 2017 with her dance banger “Places”.

And now Ulrikke Brandstorp and her surname are back for Melodi Grand Prix 2020.

Speaking to wiwibloggs at the first artist reveal for MGP 2020, she tells us her new song is a ballad:

“It’s not similar at all to “Places”. The song this year is called “Attention” and it is a power ballad. I’ve written it with Christian Ingebrigtsen and Kjetil Mørland.” Mørland has Eurovision form, having qualified for the Eurovision grand final back in 2015, with Debrah Scarlett.

Ulrikke also shared the meaning of the song:

“The song is actually kind of a question, I ask myself and all of you, why do we do stupid things for love to get the attention of another person? Sometimes love hurts. And we do it all over again! So the song is about that.”

Ulrikke Brandstorp talks differences between her Melodi Grand Prix entries

The style and tone represent a major departure from her upbeat entry three years ago:

“I want people to feel things. Last time Places was more party and dancers. This is me, my voice and my feelings.”

While some artists view national finals as a way to boost their domestic profile, Ulrikke Brandstorp is not one of them. Instead our girl has her eyes fixed on the big prize in Rotterdam:

“Now things just got real. I really want to go to Eurovision and I’m so excited right now. I’m ready to devote my whole life for Eurovision.”

She also has an advantage on the semi-finalists as “Attention” is prequalified for the MGP final.

Melodi Grand Prix 2020 Semi-Final 1

MGP fans won’t have to wait long for action though.

Semi-Final 1 takes place on Saturday night live from Fornebu. Four acts will take to the stage and one will advance to the final.

But possibly I`ll like it… Just now I miss this year “real music” (thanks to Salvador!) in the ESC circus.

So far the best in all of the preselection released contenders is no doubt Iva in Iceland.

Attention – little care ….

I need Mørland to write like half of the Norwegian songs, or give some to other countries, too. He never disappointed me yet. I know names mean nothing but his is the one name where, when it appears, I already feel confident in saying my Eurovision season will bring a gem, or more. ‘A Monster like me’, ‘Who we are’, ‘En livredd mann’ – he should have won MGP three times already.

It lost to ‘That’s how you write a song’, though. Hardly anything should lose to something like that.

He´s a great singer and composer. We need more of him instead of the cheap and trashy songs written by Barker & Co. “A monster like me” is one of my ESC-favourites from Norway.

I promise y’all Ulrikke is gonna slay. I think she DEFINITELY has the spirit a MGP winner needs to have to do well at esc (I’m talking KEEINO realness). Ulrikke is probably the strongest vocalist in this years field (Didrik and Emil are also great), and with Christian Ingebritsen and Mørland as songwriters I have high hopes!:) Even though I have not heard all the songs yet, I’d say she’s one to look out for. If you want to see more of her (or Didrik, Lisa, Raylee, Kim, Sondrey) you can google Stjernekamp and the artist you would like to… Read more »
