Saturday 11 January Eurovision Selection Shows Norway Lithuania

National final season for Eurovision 2020 got off to a dramatic start with Albania’s Festivali i Këngës 58 in December. And after a brief breather — save for casting shows in Israel, Georgia and Malta — the season steps up a gear tonight, Saturday 11 January.

Here are all the details you need for 2020’s first Saturday of national selections. Norway and Lithuania are the ones getting the ball rolling.

You can follow all the results on wiwibloggs (and via our Twitter@wiwibloggs and Instagram wiwibloggs) throughout the evening. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening, when it’s on and how to watch.

Saturday 11 January: Eurovision 2020 Selection Shows

Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2020

Semi-Final One

Norway’s MGP 2020 turns 60 this year. And to mark the occasion, the Nordic nation is reviving the semi-finals, last used in 2014. This evening’s show will see performances from four artists — Geirmund, Kim Rysstad, Lisa Børud and Raylee. A series of duels will reduce this number to just one finalist. They’ll join the other semi-final qualifiers plus five pre-qualified finalists in the grand final.

Sondrey — an automatic qualifier — will also showcase his entry tonight.

Lithuania’s Eurovizijos atranka 2020

Heat One

Time: 20:00 CET to 22:10 CET

Over in the Baltics, Lithuania is also shaking things up a bit. The once bloated national selection — it ran for 10 weeks as recently as 2017 — has been slashed to just six episodes. And to mark the new slimmer show, there’s also been a little bit of a rebrand. The official title is now Pabandom iš naujo! Nacionalinė Eurovizijos Atranka 2020.

Tonight’s first heat will see 12 acts battle for six semi-final slots. There are several familiar names including Monika Marija and Gabrielius Vagelis.

I am still deciding, but I think I’ll watch Norway because MGP tends to be really energetic in live and their stagings usually elevate anything. It’s only 1 h, 15 mins, so I’ll probably opt on that one. I’ll watch Lithuanian NF songs on YT later, with hopes I won’t have spoiled on who qualified. I hold my fingers crossed for MM, Gabrielius, Andy and Aistay. Kinda meh that I won’t have my top 36 in a moment where everyone is still in the game, but I will make it till the semis. Good luck to everyone!

Don’t know if either one is worth an early wake up for me.
Lithuania are pretty good at getting their full performances on youtube so I can wait for that and none of the SF1 songs in Norway are MUST see….I think I can have a lie-in! 😉
