A month out from Australia’s national selection Eurovision – Australia Decides, one of this year’s participants has made an appearance to tens of millions worldwide – appearing on America’s Got Talent: The Champions.

22 year old Jack Vidgen, who won Australia’s Got Talent back in 2011 at the age of 14, was invited to appear on the US edition of the show. He performed a unique, soulful take on the Lauren Daigle track “You Say”.

The young singer, who had been out of the music spotlight for some years, was praised by all judges. Perennial judge Simon Cowell encouraged the singer to go further in pushing his voice:

“I think you have an extraordinary voice but that was way too safe,” he said. “I think you are way, way better than that so I’m hoping the superfans vote you through to the next round because there’s way more to come from you, way more.”

Fellow judge Aleesha Dixon noted a slight lack of confidence, but praised the singer’s voice as “beautiful”.

“In a way you’ve had to re-find your voice and re-discover it but I honestly believe you’re in with a real shot, there’s something very endearing about you. Well done.”

Ultimately, Jack did not progress to the next round. He lost out on the judges’ vote, despite receiving Simon Cowell’s vote to progress to the next round.

Jack joins fellow Australia Decides contestant Jordan-Ravi, who appeared on America’s Got Talent last year with a cover of “High Hopes” by Panic! At the Disco.

Jack has also released the music video for his Australia Decides entry, “I Am King I Am Queen”. Draped in a bath robe in a hotel room, Jack writhes around on a bed, singing seductively to the camera before dropping the robe. It’s a confident, emotional tale about his varied music journey to date.

Jack said last December he is looking forward to performing on the Gold Coast in the national selection:

“I adore my song “I Am King I Am Queen” which I cowrote with Andrew Lowden. It’s a real representation of me and everything I stand for and I think that everyone, young and old, will be able to relate to and take inspiration from this song. I hope that the Eurovision audiences love it as much as I do!”

Jack will join Casey Donovan, Diana Rouvas, Jaguar Jonze, Vanessa Amarosi, Mitch Tambo, iOTA, Jordan-Ravi, Montaigne and Didirri on February 8 for Eurovision – Australia Decides. Make sure to vote for your favourite entrant here.

So we’ve got a Briton making judgement on an Australian competing in a US singing contest. It’s a tangled web, isn’t it?

Keep in mind that the Champions edition of AGT is not a true competition. It’s not live. It’s filmed 2-3 months ago. Only the studio audience votes. The general TV audience has no say. Even the final winner was chosen back in October.

And, Jack should’ve kept his lips natural.

Jack can do whatever he wants to his lips or any other parts of his body. His body, his rules.

simon cowell has been lost in verona lately. he used to produce success after success, but now it’s been over half a decade since one of his artists have proven themselves to be successful. this jack vidgen guy’s style (both musical and personal) is just a type of tacky that’s incompatible with today’s market demand, there ain’t even a niche for that… idk he looks like a celebrity big brother contestant but who would stan THAT as a singer/artist is the question

He’s so annoying. It’s like he has to show us his painted nails in every camera shot, so much so at times he looks like he wanna shrangle himself.

Beautiful voice in the lower register. But sweet Jesus, those high notes, like nails on the blackboard. It’s a no from me, sorry.
