Very soon, Latvian broadcaster LTV will announce the acts who will compete in the grand final of Supernova 2020. From a shortlist of 26, only eight acts will make it to the grand final on 8 February. But do YouTube views of the Supernova contenders give clues as to who will make the cut?

Last month, the 26 acts performed their songs at a live presentation. The Supernova selection jury will assess the songs and the live audition performances but they will also consider YouTube views. So what do the YouTube view counts tell us?

Topping the list is Samanta Tīna. The Supernova regular has over 41,200 views for her entry “Still Breathing”. Also of note, the Samanta’s official music video for the song has clocked up over 40,600 views.

The second most popular video goes to an artist with previous Eurovision experience. Katrīna Dimanta was part of the folk group Aarzemnieki who had a “Cake to Bake” in 2014. Now solo, Katrīna has over 27,500 views for her upbeat jazzy song “Heart Beats”.

And it wouldn’t be Supernova without Markus Riva. The Latvian star is back for another go with “Impossible”. His performance video has over 26,600 views, while the lyric video has over 48,000 views.

In fourth place is ANNNA with her quirky song “Polyester”. Her fun look at the consequences of fast fashion has over 26,600 views. While in fifth place is Madara, whose peaceful song “Māras zeme” has over 23,700 views.

Rounding out the top eight is Edgars Kreilis with over 19,800 views for “Tridymite”, Bad Habits with over 19,500 views for “Sail With You” and Antra Stafecka & Atis Ieviņš who have 17,180 views for”Coming Over”.

Sorry to be controversial but I cannot stand Samanta’s song. The whole beat drop is just so annoying to my ears. My personal favourites are Miks Dukurs and Edgars Kreilis. I wouldnt be against Markus Riva either. They’d be my picks to win. 🙂

I am with you on this one. Such a messy song and I can’t even called it a song, couple of basic lines and she with awkward movements and yet agains fails to match outfit to song. She does it all the time. I think last year those jeans……..

The Wiwi poll final would be better than the Youtube views. I hope Supernova doesn’t sleep on Miks and Ruta. I assume my other favorites (Madara and Samanta) will be there no matter what happens.

Madara NEEDS to represent Latvia. I feel like she could give us a one-of-a-kind experience on stage, and luckily the selection this year is kinda weak so she can totally make it

Nah. Those viewing figures are (overall) still too small to tell you anything more than who has the most fans (regardless of song).
