Another week, another set of reactions to four semi-finalists competing in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2020. Semi-Final 2 takes us all over the place — from the melodrama of Kim Wigaard and Maria Mohn, to the outer reaches of Anna Jaeger‘s emotional universe. Along the way we check in with Rein Alexander — can he make it rein, honey? — and comedian Tore Petterson. This is no laughing matter. But we have a few giggles anyway. Video available above and on the Wiwibloggs YouTube channel.
Reacting to MGP 2020 SF2
0:58 Anna Jæger – “How About Mars
5:51 Kim Wigaard and Maria Mohn – “Fool for Love”
8:34 Rein Alexander – “One Last Time”
12:46 Tore Petterson – “The Start of Something New”
Why are all those folks who every year complain about the Portuguese national selection not trolling MGP and this semi—-awful and cheesy with zero lyrical worth
Question: why those duels instead of the audience choosing 2 out of 4 and not 1 out of 2, twice? The decision is half-made BEFORE the vote. There are four acts – A, B, C, D. A competes against B, C against D. The audience can vote for either A or B and C or D, while if they were allowed to vote for whichever act they love the most, they could vote for A and B, A and C, A and D, B and C, D and C, B and D.
Either way the best song ends up winning and more duels means more excitement (theoretically at least).
I found the duels nerve wracking!
It’s to make it exciting !! Also it’s determined by random draw
Ah ok, at least it’s a random draw. Thanks.
That was my reaction too, Rise like a Phoenix/James Bond-y tune! I must confess I like it at the second listen – vocally and musically, not lyrically 🙁
