On the eve of semi-final two of Norway’s newly expanded Melodi Grand Prix 2020, the second pre-qualified entry has been released. Didrik & Emil Solli-Tangen’s “Out Of Air” dropped just after midnight local time on Friday 17 January.
The song will receive its live premiere during the second semi-final of MGP 2020. However, unlike the other four performing acts, the Solli-Tangen brothers won’t need to compete for a spot in the final.
They’ll only be showcasing the track as they’re a guaranteed finalist.
Didrik & Emil “Out Of Air” (Melodi Grand Prix 2020)
Didrik Solli-Tangen represented Norway on home territory in 2010 with “My Heart Is Yours”. The song placed 20th in the grand final. This time will be joined by his younger brother Emil, who himself reached the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2013.
Songwriters: Fredrik Boström, Mats Tärnfors, Niclas Lundin and Didrik Solli-Tangen.
Since their last participations, the brothers feel they have matured both personally and musically as well as having gained a lot of experience from performing locally. Speaking at the MGP 2020 season launch Didrik said:
“I think that we have done it one time before, it’s a good experience to have and we’ll just use that. But I think now that it is a total different song and that we are at totally different places in our lives.”
Emil agreed.
“I think the biggest difference is that now we are ten years older and with that experience that you have earned over the last ten years, it’s going to feel a bit more grounded.”
Melodi Grand Prix 2020: Semi-Final Two
The second MGP 2020 semi will see five artists perform.
Four of these are competing for a spot in the final. A series of “duels” will take place until one qualifier remains. Each act represents Eastern Norway.
The semi-final two contenders are:
- Anna Jæger “How About Mars”
- Kim Wigaard & Maria Mohn “Fool for Love”
- Rein Alexander “One Last Time”
- Tore Petterson “The Start of Something New”
The acts competing in the remaining three semis have yet to be confirmed. However, we do know the other pre-qualified finalists. They are:
- Akuvi “Som du er”
- Tone Damli “Hurts Sometimes”
- Ulrikke Brandstorp “Attention”
- Sondrey “Take My Time”
They’ll be joined by the winners of each semi, the first of which is Raylee with “Wild”.
What do you think of “Out Of Air”? Does it a deserving pre-qualified entry? Let us know in the comments below.

the chorus sounds like Cool by the Jonas Brothers tbh
Amazing song! Great voices and a lovely, uplifting chorus. Potential winner if they can nail this live. Didrik is back with a bang.
Im ready for 2020 Melfest and hate from all fans. I just say im ready for it now. They start the hate on Norway and then soon they have sharpened there knifes for Sweden.
Indeed quite outdated, sounds like a “schlager” of the 2000 years. But I like it. When was the last time competing of two brothers together at ESC ?
Everything could be better than the cheap trash sung by Raylee..
I love schlager :).
Jedward?
The start of the chorus is like a cheap rip off of Sigrid’s Sucker Punch. The rest of the song is quite bland when you think of which good voices these brothers actually have…
I quite like it. Not good enough for Eurovision but I prefer it than the semi final ones.
i- the nrk jury was on crack
Sounds like a song from 2005, not 2020… Boring, cheesy, non competitive…
Nice try but no go bra. Old copycat can’t stand up to the best. What can I say? Lame without backbone. Truth bursts but it’s still true.
Wow this is baaaad… How did this get prequailifed???
I really enjoy this one, feels like a guilty pleasure for me
It’s a decent song , but it hasn’t gotten the fresh radio feel or empowering message (for jury) or anything distinctive to make people vote for them amongst 20/26 songs (televotes )
So this is not a good thing based on Norway’s recent efforts ( let’s exclude 2018 cause that was a garbage choice )
This is the best that Norway has released this season yet, if only for the comedic potential it will bring – two brothers serenading each other. Which says it all. I am supremely disappointed in Norway so far. This big promise of a grand national final is not working for me for one simple reason: no grand song material. Not giving in just yet, though. More songs to go.
For me, both the song title and song itself (especially the chorus), sounds like the song “No air” by Jordin Sparks and Chris brown
Same thoughts:-) but the song is nice
My ranking right now would be based on studio
1)Talking about us
2)Wild
3)How about Mars ?
4)Take my time
5)One last time
6)Out of Air
7)Come Alive
8)Rainbow
9)Fool of love
10)The Start of something new
So 80s. Kinda like it but i am not sure how young folks will respond to this.
Why does it sound like an old school rock/folk song ?
The beginning of the chorus sounds like something I have heard
This song is again weaker than Wild and Talking about us , even how about Mars in terms of televote appeal !!
Why is it pre-qualified again ? Will someone tell me ?
Instantly reminded me of Joe and Jake. Glad to see others in the comments agree.
The performers do , the song doesn’t , it sounds way older than You’re not alone
I’ll be the odd one out. I don’t mind this.
It actually reminds me a lot of the music that the Beegees were making in the 80s.
This sounds so much like You’re Not Alone by Joe & Jake.
Reminds me of UK 2016 Joe & Jake – You’re Not Alone
You’re so right!!!
I imagine the chorus will sound great when they sing together. But I’m still waiting for a MPG entry that does more than being mildly enjoyable. 60% of the songs to go yet, I’ll stay positive.
Cute song but as others said I don’t feel like it’s memorable enough. In comparison to the other entries in this semi-final it definitely deserved its spot in the final.
Ah , no , it didn’t
This is supposed to be better than all the semifinalists and I don’t think this is better than the Top 2 finishers from semi 1 !!
Tbh it’s not bad. it’s an overall decent entry that will prob be performed well live. Just one problem, this would not work at eurovision, just not memorable enough.
Weirdly it feels like an incest breakup song. I’m sorry.
Yet another song worse than Talking About Us, what is the point of these horrible pre-qualified entries.. this selection is losing hype every day
Exactly , I wrote the same. They could have put wild and talking about us in the final over this !! This is not gonna get televotes or jury support
Atleast sondrey with take my time was jury pleasing
Live vocals are gonna be bonkers.
They’re professional opera singers
You don’t say
Why ?
Remind me of UK 2016
Seems like a song that I have heard before like a song from Coldplay/OneRepublic
