It’s one of the last national finals to get going, but Belarus has taken the next step towards finding its act for Rotterdam. Broadcaster BTRC has revealed the list of 49 shortlisted acts who will get to showcase their entry in the iconic live-streamed auditions round. And there are some familiar faces on the list.
The broadcaster received 95 applications. Of those, around 30 were cut as they were from foreign acts. Unlike in 2018, when Ukraine star Alekseev won the national final, this year the rules have restricted entry to only local acts.
The broadcaster also cut any applicants who did not meet the rules of entry. This left them with the 49 acts who will face the live audition round on 27 January — this coming Monday.
The line-up features national final regulars, such as NAPOLI, who — like Latvia’s Markus Riva — have made an attempt every year since 2014. They’ll have the song “Dоn’t Let Me Down”, perhaps aimed at the televoters of Belarus.
Also making an appearance are other national final stars like AURA, Angelika Pushnova, Janet, and the group PROvokatsiya.
Artem Mihalenko may be familiar to fans of Eurovision 2010. He was part of the vocal group 3 + 2 who performed the old-fashioned ballad “Butterflies” in Oslo. This time Artem is going solo with “MOVE”
And we’ll also see a performance from our recent Wednesday Wishlist pick, VAL. Vlad and Lena are like a cross between Naviband and Zalagaspar — a cool couple performing songs in Belarusian. They’re in with the song “Да вiдна”.
Also among the acts is Vitaly Voronko. He previously appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, reaching the semi-finals. After appearing and finishing last in the 2015 selection, Vitaly unsuccessfully tried once more with an ode to the potato in 2019. He truly is a man who never gives up. This time he has the song “Listen to your Heart”.
What happens next?
After the live auditions, an expert jury will select approximately 12 acts to compete in the national final which has been confirmed for March 6.
Unlike the 2019 edition, where the winner was decided by jury vote alone, for 2020 the televote has returned. The winner of the grand final will be determined by a mix of jury vote and televote.

The song by Parade of Planets is just amazing, I have broken the replay button ?
Napoli is like the Samanta Tina and Sanna Nielsen of Belarus
Like Markus Riva
VAL please oh my god
Napoli again. The Belorrusian Mirela. This girl is so annoying and her songs bland and cheese. I’m not too exited about the acts announce, though I liked Anastasia Malaskevich previous entries. She needs too focus on screaming when needed, just not every single note.
VAL seem cool, I’d love another song in Belarusian
What if the real winner of the Belarussian NF of #JESC2019 will be performing at the #ESC2020 once she will represent Belarus at the said contest, with the same song? This is going to be more interesting.
Who ?
Rather than downvotes an answer would be better na ?
Napoli is pretty good, so I hope she brings something good this time.
Malashkevich , that seems like a name I’ve heard too ?
She participated in 2018
She compete on 2016 edition with Pray For Love
Five of last year’s finalists returning? None of them were particularly good but glad that they’re not letting a little rejection get in the way!
Out of the familiars, am most happy with Angelika Pushnova and Napoli. Both have had at least one good entry in previous editions so there’s hope!
Which 5 ?
Alyona Gorbachova, Aura, KeySi, Napoli and PROvokatsiya.
Ah, okay , thanks
KeySI was a favorite right ?
Provokatsiya are not good live singers
