Saturday 25 January: Eurovision 2020 Selection Shows

Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2020

Semi-Final Three

Time: 19:50 CET to 21:10 CET

Norway’s MGP 2020 turns 60 this year. And to mark the occasion, the Nordic nation is reviving the semi-finals, last used in 2014. This evening’s show will see performances from four acts — Thomas Løseth featuring Erika Norwich, Alexandru, Sie Gubba and Kristin Husøy. A series of duels will reduce this number to just one finalist. They’ll join the other semi-final qualifiers plus five pre-qualified finalists in the grand final.

Automatic qualifier Akuvi will also showcase her entry tonight.

Heat Three

Time: 20:00 CET to 22:10 CET

Over in the Baltics, Lithuania is also shaking things up a bit. The once bloated national selection — it ran for 10 weeks as recently as 2017 — has been slashed to just six episodes. And to mark the new slimmer show, there’s also been a little bit of a rebrand. The official title is now Pabandom iš naujo! Nacionalinė Eurovizijos Atranka 2020.

Tonight’s third heat will see 12 acts battle for six semi-final slots. There are several familiar names including Aistė Pilvelytė, KaYra and The Roop.

Third heat will be the weakiest followed by the first and second (the second heat was the strongest for sure). If we, Lithuanians, know what’s right, we’ll pick Monique, R?ta Loop, Monika Marija, MEANDI or Gabrielius. Though I’m rooting mostly for either Monique or Monika Marija as those two are the most professional on the stage. We cannot ignore the fact that an artist will be seen by 200M of population during the GF, that he/she will have to speak with lots of media, etc. We had our mistakes with Vilija, Fusedmarc, others. Let’s stop digging even further and take… Read more »
