UMK 2020 is raring into life and we ain’t scared no more. The national final in Finland has been releasing one song per day and we’re over halfway there. Six artists and songs will be competing to represent the Nordic country in Rotterdam. Today, the fourth competing song has been released. F3M have released their song “Bananas”.

F3M “Bananas” (UMK 2020)

Three-piece girl group F3M are made up of Viv, Baby O and Miara. Their song is described as a “catchy and dance-inspiring pop song performed with an anarchistic touch.” The UMK jury says the song’s production “has ensured that each second is packed with strong pop hooks.”

Music and lyrics: Olli Äkräs, Hanna Ollikainen, Rafael Elivuo

UMK 2020

The final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020 will take place on 7 March in Tampere. Hosted by Mikko Silvennoinen and Eurovision veteran Krista Siegfrids, the winner will be decided by televote and an expert jury.

In the past two years, Finland has internally selected its artist and utilised UMK to select their song. This yielded mixed results, with Saara Aalto ending a three year non-qualification streak in 2018 before Darude and Sebastian Rejman crashed out in Tel Aviv.

This year, YLE has abandoned the internal selection and UMK will feature six different artists vying for the right to represent Finland in Rotterdam. F3M are the fourth of these six artists to release their entry.

When we go out without autotune, we go ?

Nope to this one. Like if Nickelback wrote a pop song. Erika’s song stands head and shoulders above the others, genuinely fun and has wits about it. This is generic, dated and overall garbage.

Auto tunned to death, very unorignal sound, boring melody and 3 ladies without any charisma!! Yah, they should vote for this, of course,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, So Finland you wanna qualify or not??

I feel like all the UMK songs this year would have done great 15 years ago, but now are either borderline qualifiers or semi final casualties

Surely far better than Cicciiiolina. I still prefer Aksel’s song, but this isn’t a total disaster either.

as someone already said below, it does sound like a song that could’ve been on little mix’s debut album from 2012. it’s not bad but it’s dated and would surely flop

Norway and Finland are really struggling, hope they had something good under the table cause I don’t see them near qualifying with the songs revealed so far.

I see both qualifying so easy with One Last Time and Cicciolina. At least televoting

NANA BANANA

Either I’m getting old and “going bananas” is a new, modern slang term used by the yoof of today, or the writers have made a terrible faux-pas in naming a song about clubbing after something 6 year old children do.

1. “Cicciolina” 10/10
2. “I Let My Heart Break” 9/10
3. “Bananas” 7/10
4. “Looking Back” 6.5/10

I think it’s okay. The best song from Finland so far. But I wish they could change “Bananas” to something else. It sounds so silly.

This is the first one of the selection that I’m not that sure about. It sounds like the sort of token girl group entry that the UK used to put in You Decide.
Also, the non-British pronunciation of bananas just doesn’t feel right.

There are many British accents. Do you mean the south English “bah-naw-nah” or something similar? To me it sounds fine. I’m not British, but to me the flatter “bah-nah-nah” sounds right.

Nice to see O’G3NE experimenting and going full pop this time 😀

The chorus is okay and catchy; still my least fave of the bunch, unfortunately 🙁

It looks like they’re trying to be the modern Finnish Spice Girls, yet sadly their song belongs to the 2000s. Though I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy “Bananas” at all, it’s got a quite catchy hook. But I would be really surprised if this was the song Finns decide to send to Rotterdam.

Haha, a “Helsinki state of mind” indeed! Totally Bananas.
It would be a complete shock if Finland chose this, but I hope people can see it is a lot of fun and don’t take it too seriously.
