This year’s stage aims to provide “freedom” for the artists. It is the largest stage in Melodifestivalen history and can be transformed into almost 40 different looks. Stage designer Viktor Brattström believes the flexibility the stage offers could become the norm for future editions. Although there are LED pillars, there is no LED wall this year. Instead the striped fabric wall from 2019 returns. This may be designed to return realism to the competition. The cloth strips measure 35 metres wide by 6 metres tall. Brattström says: “This year we’re doing live numbers. They should not make a video of what they stand for.” #melfest #melodifestivalen #melfest2020 #eurovision #mello #mello2020

Saturday night will also be the first road test for this year’s stage. It is the biggest in the history of Melodifestivalen and boasts innovative lighting technology. In a change from recent years, there is no LED wall, and instead there will be projections on a huge fabric backdrop.

International fans will be able to watch the show live through SVT Play. The show starts at 8pm CET.

Ballerina is somewhat promising but the overall semi is extremely boring.
Sweden, you will definitely take a spot in the final. At least send a good song so the qualification won’t be undeserved.

I have read that some people call ALL Swedens,Norways,Denmarks,Estonias,Latvias,Finlands,Australias,Lithuanias,Icelands songs generic and commercial. Im really tired of these people now. Cant you comment on other sites instead? All songs cant be generic and commercial. Its impossible! Should we all have african drums? or middle eastern singing ? I dont get it.

DTF: Felix and Suzi P
AC: Mamas and OVO or Malou (can’t rlly choose)

Pretty decent songs! I’d love Malou directly to be in the final and the Mama’s or Felix as well. And maybe even OVÖ in andra chansen, it’s something different from what I’d expect Sweden to send. I was underwhelmed by Robin, but I didn’t like ”I Can’t Go On” either, so that’s not big loss for me

As usual with MF we have to wait until staging to really get it. Sometimes songs sounds Good from snippets but disappoints in staging and vice versa.
I can hear the potential for great stuff in four entries, and thats more than the first semi usually gets: Mamas, Malou, Sandman and Bengtsson. If staging is on point these 4 will make it through somehow..
But again, wait until staging!

I actually have 3 people I want to qualify I don’t hate any of those song s but I have to say that Robin his song disappointed me the most. Suzy P, Malou & Felix are my favs here. The Mamas would be the safest choice to send.

The song of Felix Sandman sounds like Billie Eilish (at least the chorus does). And Robin Bengtson’s sounds like every Shawn Mendes song ever.

Malou’s song is the best, not into the others. I hope the other semis are better. I don’t know what those journalists were thinking saying Robin was a potential winner and Malou was weak.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Melfest is that you need to wait and see how it will look in TV before picking favorites. That said, snippets can be deceiving, but I appreciate what Felix is trying to do. The “non-chorus” will be divisive, but will also separate him from the pack. Curious to see how it will play along the 3 minutes.

Sweden seems to be off to a good start! About 4 songs disappointed me but the rest I was pretty much fine with. Robin, Malou, The Mamas and Suzi P are my top 4~! Since Felix was the most hyped, I might just say what I thought. What was that “chorus”? It’s so bad… everything else before it was pretty good. I was enjoying the song until that “chorus” started. I really hope it doesn’t qualify to the finals or the second chance round. Unless the full version is somehow a masterpiece despite that “chorus”, I don’t want it to… Read more »

Well, obviously, most of the songs sound as expected in terms of the over-production and generally familiar sound etc. If you can accept that, some of these actually do it quite well. Malou’s seems strong and Robin’s seems interesting. I think, aside from Suzi’s, there’s nothing here I actually dislike.
I don’t think any of these songs would get into the top five of what we’ve heard from Norway so far but it’s a good start.

I had high hopes for Felix but his song sounds like a Troye Sivan reject… Anyways Malou and Suzy stand out of the rest even though I couldn’t remember any song nor melody after the first and second listen, only that those 2 stood out.. I’ll wait for the full songs I guess..

5) no thx to the rest

‘Boys with Emotions’ actually sounds like something I prefer to every Eurovision winner since 2008. I am so pleasantly surprised. I love Felix and Sonja’s songs. I like Robin and The Mamas’ songs. How ironic, Sweden is my saving grace in this year’s NF season. I’ll gladly take it.

Mamas direkt till final! I’m a sucker for gospel entries and oh boy, do they deliver. No winner alerts, but this is a solid semi. I’m a bit let down by Felix’s and Malou’s songs, but maybe I’ll change my mind after the live performances. Also, am I the only one getting Roxette’s “It Must Have Been Love” vibes from Sonja’s number?

Most of them are so generic and boring!
Having that kind of pop song is fine, but all of them together makes it so boring to listen to…
Doesn’t make me emotional, doesn’t make me wanna dance, they all exist
I don’t know why Robin and Felix are favourites now
My biggest disappointment is Felix, whose 2018 entry made me cry and now I don’t feel anything
In my opinion, The Mamas should win this semi final
Then I don’t actually care which one of these songs qualify as well

All songs in every selection is generic because it has been done before. So whats your point with that? Spains song have been done before, Albanias song have been done before etc.

Based on that previous article I really expected more of Robin Bengtsson. I thought that was really boring, but I’ve never understood why people like Ed Sheeran either so I might just have bad taste. Malou Prydz was better than I thought, there’s a slight Margaret feel to it, especially in the way she pronounces things. I don’t feel like it’s a winner though. The Mama’s were great but it sounds like what I as a European think ‘American music’ sounds like. Not that that’s bad, but… Felix Sandman… On one hand I feel like it’s underwhelming, on the other… Read more »

Robin’s snippet is fine but it is a total let down compared to the current #1 Hit in Sweden, “Svag” by Victor Leskell. Both kinda acoustic pop but the difference is notorious to me and Svag is doing over 500k streams daily in Sweden so Idk.
I really like Felix’ snippet but need to hear more.
Also pleased to see some Urban/Trap in Swedish.

Victor Leksell was 13th in Idol and is not a great live artist. He is a better studio singer. And Melfest is for live singers so i dont get your point.

I think Alex means that Svag is a better song than Take a Chance. Not so much that one artist is better than the other in terms of singing talent. Personally, I haven’t heard Svag (yet) so cant speak on that.

Oh the first semi of Norway was way better than this. 3 good songs and 1 okish song. 2nd semi was horrible though. Out of these clips there are only a couple of ok’ish songs. That said…. I need to hear the full versions of these songs because the 1 minute clips didn’t do anything. I might change my mind afterwards. For now only the Mamas sounded like something catchy, pleasent and fun…eventhough it still sounds like they have a gospel choir of a 100 people behind them. Oh and Robin Bengtsson is so far okish as well… But so… Read more »

Gotta listen to the full songs, but I think Sweden is off to a good start. In fact, their first semi will be the first NF I’m gonna watch this season. I’ve always been completely indifferent to Felix and I still couldn’t care less, so I think I’m qualified to say this: this could potentially turn out to be a very good song! If it’s the best one, he absolutely should win. Robin ain’t bad, need to hear it in full. Sonja has a style that just speaks to me so much, I still adore it, so it pains me… Read more »

I think Robin is the best. But winning Melodifestivalen with that song? I don’t know. The snippet is too short and I need to see it live. The same goes for Felix. Bold song. I’s modern, I give Felix credit for that. Perhaps too modern for bringing to Esc . The Mama’s are screaming too much. I like Malou’s song but it sounds like Sia and that is not very smart.
