Tomorrow night, Melodifestivalen 2020 will kick off with the first semi-final in Linköping. But we could already have a clue as to who the most successful acts will be. Melodifestivalklubben’s audience poll, conducted at tonight’s jury rehearsal, has Felix Sandman and The Mamas as the top two acts, suggesting they’ll be the ones heading direkt till final on Saturday night.

Melodifestivalklubben — the Swedish chapter of the OGAE fan network — polled 641 audience members at Saab Arena after tonight’s rehearsal. They were asked “What was your favourite tonight?”

At the top of the poll was Felix Sandman. The former FO&O singer had 215 votes for his song “Boys with Emotions”, giving him 33.5% of the overall vote.

Coming in second was Eurovision 2019 backing singers The Mamas. Now going solo with “Move”, they picked up 198 votes or 31%.

In third place — and possibly heading to andra chansen — was Malou Prytz. Her entry “Ballerina” (with choreography by Ace Wilder) had 86 votes or 13%. And maybe joining her in andra chansen is Sweden’s Eurovision 2017 star Robin Bengtsson. He earned 78 votes for “Take a Chance”, 12% of the overall vote.

But the poll does not bode well for the three remaining acts. Sonja Aldén picked up 42 votes for her song “Sluta aldrig gå” (6.5%), while Suzi P‘s “Moves” and OVÖ’s “Inga problem” each picked up 11 votes or just 2% of the overall vote.

Melodifestivalklubben audience poll results – Melodifestivalen 2020 semi-final 1 Linköping

  1. Felix Sandman – “Boys With Emotions” (215 votes – 33.5%)
  2. The Mamas – “Move” (198 votes – 31%)
  3. Malou Prytz – “Ballerina” (86 votes – 13%)
  4. Robin Bengtsson – “Take a Chance” (78 votes – 12%)
  5. Sonja Aldén – “Sluta aldrig gå” (42 votes – 6.5%)
  6. Suzi P – “Moves” (11 votes – 2%)
  7. OVÖ – “Inga problem” (11 votes – 2%)

Of course, with such a small sample size, there’s no way of telling if this audience poll will play out correctly.

While previous predictions have been accurate, the audience poll hasn’t always got it right. In 2018 the poll infamously placed Felix Sandman second-to-last in his heat. Of course, he went on to finish runner-up to Benjamin Ingrosso while also spending several weeks atop the Swedish charts.

Nonetheless — it’s a spot of fun and has proven generally correct in the past.

What do you think? Does the audience poll predict semi-final success for Felix and The Mamas? Tell us your thoughts below!

Yeah there is no doubt he’s going through DtF.

Robin is the clear winner of this semi final for me. After that, I’d probably put The Mamas in the final with him. I appreciate the point of Felix’s song as it does touch on quite a serious subject that should be bought to light, and I really like the production (reminds me a little of Hands to Myself by Selena Gomez), but the lyrics for me a bit too cheesy and the performance, it seems seems he’s doing a little too much. But I think this’ll be a great show tonight!

There’s no 2.30 minutes this year?
I’m glad results won’t as predictable as we thought. Always a good thing

not true at all. the music in their charts sounds nothing like melfest, this selection hardly represents their industry and their taste

Aw common Aqua and Ylvis are awesome! But I disagree with him because Sweden produces some absolutely amazing music.

The audience polls are interesting in terms of their accuracy. In previous years, they were almost always on the money but last year, they didn’t do so well, right?
I think they’ve got the right four songs up there (they’re the four good entries in this SF) but I’ll be surprised if the Mamas go DTF ahead of Robin. But hey, First and Final songs in the running order getting through? 😉

Melodifestivalen has fantastic artists who give great performances, but I’m underwhelmed with this semi final. The Mamas feels exactly like their entry last year. Felix has a performance and song very similar to ‘Dance You Off‘ and Robin has a song and performance that so far looks boring compared to his last entries. I wish they would bring some new artists in who bring something different. Malou has the best song and performance from what I’ve seen so far but I would predict based on the Swedish televote that: DTF: 1. Felix 2. Robin AC: 3. Malou 4. The Mamas… Read more »

I will vote for both of them but I think Malou might not be able to pull it off live.. so I fear that the mamas will take her place in the final and she will go to ac but hope im wrong

100% with you. Ballerina seems way more promising than Felix’s song. I love this guy but Boys with Emotions is quite disappointing (with the 1 minute snipet). I hope I’ll be surprised tomorrow.

Ballerina sounds like a song you’ve heard a hundred times before 5 years ago.

Does anyone agree with MMe that The Mamas resembles too much the whole atmosphere and genre of last year’s “Is it too late for love”. I’m not particularly keen on seeing 2 songs in the same genre twice – let’s be somewhat more original (even though it’s not a bad song)….. Any thoughts?

It’s just an audience poll, that’s it. It¨s not even reflective of average Swede. It is only what 200 people think. As we know these audience polls can deceit. last year they got more wrong than right.
However I do believe these four songs will go through, in one way or another. And can I just say it is a super strong field, strongest first semi in years! Promising for next one..

I agree with the top 4 but not necessarily with the placement of them. The Mamas and Malou should go DTF imo. Felix and Robin should go to AC. It wouldn’t hurt either of them because all of them are acts who are quality and would be deserving finalists. I’m certain that I will disagree with the results but this semi has the 4 frontrunners and have 3 pretty sure non-qualifiers. My prediction Direct till final 1. Felix 2. Malou Andra Chansen 1. The Mamas 2. Robin. I hope to be suprised but Sweden is pretty predictable most of the… Read more »

So you mean in Mello we can be sabotaged by the juries? but in ESC they love us to much haha? That does not make much sense. The fans think the juries love us but its hard to make 41 jurys love you.

I hope not. Felix song is absolute rubbish. Cringe is the word! Can’t sing, wouldn’t qualify to the final. The Mama’s and Robin are the best.

Better brace yourself. He’ll probably win or come close to winning the jury vote of Eurovision 2020. And unlike 2018 and 2019, I can see why.

Robin is performing the same as Loreen when she came back, but Loreen’s song was miles better! Which means that he might not make it to the final whatsoever

Thats why I said she is better, and to clarify Loreen went to andra chancen with Statements and then failed to qualify after winning Melodifestivalen, so I said that Robin who also won Melodifestivalen is struggling to qualify to the final. Thats all I said

Meh it’s a bit of a random comparison I think b/c Loreen actually won Eurovision and Melfest with both the televote and jury. Robin on the other hand came 3rd with the televote at Melfest, even the Swedes didn’t want him there lmao

The mama’s have fantastic voices so it’s no surprise they were voted so high. Felix also seems to have brought his A game with the staging. I’m still thinking the other DtF with Felix will likely be Malou but who knows. Robin and the Mamas could be just as worthy of going DtF.
