Forty-one songs were due to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam. And while the contest, sadly, was cancelled, the Wiwi Jury still has something to say. The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has previewed and reviewed each of this year’s acts. It’s hard work being honest, but somebody has to do it.

Our jury consists of 22 jurors who hail from Australia, Germany, Hungary, Israel, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and Venezuela. We are truly international, y’all!

Each juror assesses each song independently and then awards each song a score from 0 to 10. The highest and lowest scores are then dropped to determine the Wiwi Jury average.

Songs were ranked in early March 2020 — before Eurovision 2020 was confirmed as being cancelled — while the reviews were written from mid- to late March. Assessments are based on available versions of the songs at that time. As always, Wiwi Jury reviews will not be changed to reflect new information from subsequent live performances.

Germany? Can I be part of this jury? I want to give all of you another point of view. You’re too confused and have pretty bland taste.

Send me an email! I will be waiting. XD

Azerbaijan’s score is not out yet so it still could be in the top 10.

A very interesting top. We are yet to see the result of Iceland but even if it didn’t win, this incredibly far off my ranking to say the least. Germany first baffles me but this was still a very fun process. Thank you for still doing the wiwi jury even though ESC 2020 was cancelled.

Australia, Sweden and Israel are too high, while Russia, Romania and Armenia too low…. Besides that, it’s quite acceptable. Waiting for the year when Sweden won’t be that overrated by this site and the majority of the writers…. Thank God in Eurovision the televoters are punishing this overrated country, by giving them the votes they deserve (the correct ones)…

Just for fun, I’ll try to guess last 5 scores:

Azerbaijan – 8.33
Germany – 7.70
Iceland – 8.12
Malta – 8.25
The Netherlands – 6.55

I’m interested how off I’ll be.

I’m interested to see the unraveling. I hope that I was off with The Netherlands, as I think this song deserves far more than 6.55. It’s just my prediction based on an ”okay” online reception.

Ok, now I’ve had it officially. This year the Wiwi Jury is… questionable, to say the least. Sweden over Lithuania, Bulgaria or Romania is the travesty of the season.

I think the UK has dodged a bullet here. Only 7 songs to go and all will beat our entry. 25th isn’t what we were expecting. In the actual contest he might have done even worse. The problem with the UK is that we normally follow a decent song with a right stinker. Not looking great for 2021.

Actually we will end up in 24th. Not much better but you know. I do have faith that we will have a good song next year. I think all the broadcasters will look at the reactions of the people and will then make a better song. Next year may be the best year in eurovision history. Fingers crossed

I actually *like* both of your last entries, but what UK needs is take a RISK, without treating it like a joke! Safe ”decent” songs aren’t the way to go unless you’re Sweden or Australia and you know you got the jury vote. Nobody votes for their 16th favorite. I’d love to see UK trying something dark, mystical, with deep and resonating lyrics. Or a full-fledged ”bop” maybe? Also, you can experiment with different genres and styles.

I can’t wait for Iceland Latvia and The Netherlands to be reviewed. These are my personal top three.

Pleased that Latvia almost made a 7 for the average. I can’t get enough of this song.

How Ulrikke is topping this is beyond me. Ulrikke’s appeal is, according to my humble opinion, of course, the biggest mystery of the season.

This list just confirms what I’ve thought all along, a lot of average songs. Although I will miss the contest this year, hopefully the returning acts will up their game next year.

Apparently there is only 1 song that got below a 5. I’m guessing it is slovenia. And my guess for the highest score is Bulgaria.

If it’s only one song below a 5, my money is on France, although it wouldn’t be shocked if it’s Slovenia or Estonia.

As for the highest score, I’m guessing it’s among Bulgaria, Switzerland and Lithuania. I think that Azerbaijan, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Malta will also score quite high.

I stand corrected and I just saw the new video for the wiwi jury for France and you’re absolutely right. I completely forgot about France (which says a lot. )
I expected Bulgaria to get over an 8 which didn’t happen so right now I’m thinking the highest score will probably be either Switzerland or lithuania

Seems like both Slovenia and France scored below a 5, with the French score being much lower. We still need to see the result from Estonia, though, but I believe it will be higher than the French one.
I expected Bulgaria to score an 8 too. I think this year, we might have a fair share of songs over 7, but not a lot of them over 8. Switzerland or Lithuania would be a deserving winner.

I think you’re right. However Ukus song does have its fans as does Finland whereas with France and slovenia I have never seen them place above let’s say 22nd place.
