Last week there were boys with emotions and mamas that could move.

And this week Melodifestivalen 2020 moves on to Semi-Final 2 in Gothenburg.

Seven more acts will share the stage. Two will advance to the final, two will head to the Andra Chansen duels and three will go no further than the Scandinavium.

Broadcaster SVT has just released the one minute snippets of the songs which you can hear below.

Melodifestivalen 2020 Semi-Final 2

Song snippets

You can click on each act to hear their snippet.

Those familiar with Jan Johansen may notice that his vocals sound different. That’s because they’re actually those of disqualified singer Thorsten Flinck. There was not enough time to re-record the track. According to SVT’s Melfest blog, Flinck’s version will be the one featured on the official Mello album and made available for streaming.

Clips taken from each act’s rehearsals will follow tonight at 9pm CET. These will show a first impression of staging ahead of Saturday night’s show. However, fans will only hear the full version live during Semi-Final 2.

Melodifestivalen 2020 Semi-Final 2 Running Order

Newcomer Klara Hammarström has the honour of opening the show. Her song “Nobody” has drawn comparisons to Latin popstars and one-time Melfest finalist Margaret.

Klara’s followed by last minute replacement Jan Johansen. His Swedish song “Miraklernas tid” is said to be “theatrical”.

Dotter is on third. She of course crashed out in the semis in 2018 and will hope for a better result this time around.

Fourth in the running order is Méndez feat. Alvaro Estrella. The dynamic duo have had mixed experiences in the competition previously.

Frequent semi-finalist Linda Bengtzing is back for another crack in fifth. “Alla mina sorger” has been reported as her best chance of advancing for some time.

Newcomer Paul Rey sings sixth. “Talking in My Sleep” is being talked up as a breakthrough entry for him.

Fresh from last year’s Bergendemption, Anna Bergendahl is back for a second consecutive year. She’ll sing “Kingdom Come” in seventh position.

I’ve never in my life feeled more bored. Only Paul Rey has somewhat a quality, modern sounding song. Jan Johansen is just plain boring and all other songs are typical Swedish pop trash. So far a really bad selection.

Klara is really good and at least there’s a twist to what you get all the time. With the exception of Loreen of course you have to admit Melodifestivalen is pretty much every year the same sound\songs from the same composers (aprox. the same ratio of dance, oldies, traditional..). Stuck somewhere between the 70’s and the end 90’s. But i like it anyway.

My top 4 would be:
Direct to Final: Anna Bergendahl/Paul Rey
Andra Chansen: Linda Bengtzing/Klara Hammarstrom
Dotter’s staging looks amazing, but the song is a bit of a letdown for me, I expected more from Mendez, considering I really liked his last melfest song, and I don’t mind Jan Johansen’s song, but I don’t see it going anywhere. But you just never know with Melodifestivalen, so I’m looking forward to the show, especially to see Linda Bengtzing, so happy she’s back!

If I had to pick four, then: Klara, Dotter, Paul and Anna and tbh I don’t really care which two I would send to the final and which two to second chance.

OK watched the snippets from the rehearsals now, no doubt about it, Anna is the winner of the Semi 2 hands down, with her kilted male dancers and uplifting song! Paul is second, sure he is all alone, no backing vocals at all almost but the song seem to get abit more uptempo after the first minute so that is nice. Third will probably be Klara but her live vocals are too weak for the song 🙁 Fourth I would say Dotter, she has some kind of disco ball top on so kind of cool i suppose Oh yeah here… Read more »

I like Paul’s, Linda’s, and Anna’s songs the most. But the others aren’t bad either. Actually rather enjoyed all of them, well except for “Miraklernas tid”, that song is just not for me. Definitely need to hear and see their live performances but this semi to me at least is the better of the two. Anyways good luck to everyone.

I don’t know why nobody likes Kingdom Come, but I really do, as I likes Ashes to Ashes. I think Anna is great and she will surprise us in the semifinal. Good luck!!

1. Rey
2. Mendez
3. Anna

All final potential. Anna and Mendez are main stream and will end higher internationally, but prefer Rey.

I have to say, Anna’s song was super dissapointing. after being labelled as “our new winner” i was kinda hyped about it but after listening to the snippets? really a meh song that probably was gonna end up in 5th pace if she wasn’t the one singing it.

Paul rey and dotter had the best songs and are my top 2. Klara ‘s song aka a shakira reject will probably go to AC together with mendez and alvaro star

Sigh, I really, really love Pauls snippet, I love it! Can’t stop listening to it now, even if it sounds like Ed Sheerans song i don’t care, but I know it is not a ESC song, that what bugs me so much!!
So annoying I want it to win but still i don’t want it to win…I don’t know how to explain it really….such an annoying feeling!
It is one of those songs that are really good but does not fit in to the format of Melfest…

I have a feeling if Anna gives a flawless performance (ie staging live vocals) she will most likely win the whole thing… The song is better than Ashes to Ashes TBH I keep replaying it.

this song from Dotter is better compared to her past entries i feel more power

i find her stage name funny, how it is ”daughter of mother earth” while i love her real name Johanna Maria

she has more fanbase now possibly, after her most very recent collab with Mans, right

I don’t get the bookies riding the hype of Paul Rey’s song. I know it’s one the best songs in this semi but winning in the grand final? It lacks originality and it’s similar to one of Calum Scott’s song.

Bcs 1. Swedes love decpacito-music, The song is pretty good and in the live clip they had good vocals. Mendez is also well known. 2. Dotter have a more special song that could take many “outsider” votes. 3. Klara is unknown as an artist. Her other single is better so The odds where maybe based on that. She is number one and might be forgotten in this strong round. The song is very basic eurovision pop and that does not go well anymore in Sweden. Last time The mamas had a big drop and look where that ended. They know… Read more »

Such a weird semifinal, cant see any obvious qualifiers. I think I like Klaras song the best and I feel like she has a great chance going through. I would have loved “Miraklernas Tid” if it was performed by Thorsten Flinck but not as much with Jan I dont think. I love Anna but at first listen I didnt get this song, maybe ill like it more when I see the performance. Im not convinced by Paul Rey either. Unless Mendez & Alvaro is a car crash live that song is going through to the final for sure.

I feel like this is all over the map in terms of qualifiers. I could foresee almost any of 6/7 signers going to DtF or AC. My PERSONAL qualifiers (for now): 1. Mendez & Alvaro – I didnt think I’d say this but the song is quite catchy. I feel like Mendez was smart here (and learned from his last appearance). He has a catchy song, brought on someone who (i assume) sings quite well live and added his own ‘Mendez’ name to it for a winning package. I can see this going DtF 2. Dotter – I know some… Read more »

I like Dotters entry best so far, but I really wish they’d look at her non Melfest discography. Like, Heatwave, Evolution, I do, Dive, they all slap so hard and it’s clear that’s her style.

Still, I hope to see her make AC at least :/

Yeah her back catalogue is small but packed with gems, that is her recognisably her, that might not fit in the classic Eurovision mold, but I’m sure it would shine through on stage.

Paul’s song will build up from here so DF in all likelihood. I don’t get Anna’s song based on the snippet but neither did I get Robin’s last week’s effort before the live show. Dotter’s situation is a strange one. Her earlier non-Melfest songs ( Dive and Evolution for example, both would almost be esc winning material imo ) are miles ahead of her Mello songs. It’s like they are trying too hard to create a hit song and lose the personality in the process. Mendez has mastered this strange genre of Swedish Latino music. Not my cup of tea… Read more »

This might have been discussed before but I don’t remember: What’s the reasoning behind the audios of the direct finalists not being released? It doesn’t make sense to me because half of the Andra Chansen songs which do get released will be in the final, too. I reaaaally wanna have ‘Take a chance’. And actually, ‘Move’ as well.

Because appearently they think it is unfair for the unreleased song that the DF songs are out and people can listen to those songs more and make up there minds before hearing all songs…makes no sense really…

They don’t want qualifiers from semi 1 to have more momentum and exposure than qualifiers from semi 4 !! The Andra chansen songs being released early is so that they can gain momentum and actually be a contender in the final

These snippets like the last semi don’t seem to do the songs justice. If these are anything to go by though Anna is the standout, although it doesn’t excite me as much as Ashes to Ashes

There is something special about Talking in My Sleep and I feel a key change coming that will probably knock my socks off if I was wearing any. Most likely would be Paul and Anna going to DTF, but Andra Chanssen spots totally up for grabs with the other 5. I don’t necessarily think this is a bad semi but more that I would add any of these songs (except Jan’s…please don’t) to my iTunes playlist once its over.

As expected, this is the Anna Bergendahl show. I feel like SVT put her in a weak semi final to give her a boost and I am totally fine with that. I wish the solid lyrics were even better but I think there is enough here that I will end up loving ‘Kindom Come’. I suspect this song will better enable her to come alive on stage ‘than Ashes to Ashes’, which is a very difficult song to sing AND perform well. Anna, I am rooting for you. i like anna bergendahl’s snippet already more than “ashes to ashes”, i love how she stays faithful to her style. about dotter… first she ripped off julia michaels, now sia, and shamelessly so… i hope sweden says no to her again so she finds her own musical style. the “nobody” song sounds like something camila cabello rejected for all the right reasons. paul rey’s snippet probably doesn’t give the song justice, i’ll enjoy it a lot more in full i bet.
